What should Maye work on next after the Season?

All for family and stuff but when he gets his mind back and ready himself for next season, he needs to just watch how many plays were out there.

Great video.. first 2 playa tell you how Maye made the line look more bad than what it actually was .... Really.. the line was not horrific. Maye internal clock and processing was horrific. Prolly on form yesterday doubs might have played better .


His shoulder or pressure under lights. Maye probably had his worst game of his career in the super bowl and in the process took down couple of his teammates with him which includes Campbell.

We are getting clouded by his MVP level play during regular season but I think Maye is probably 75% responsible for our loss. It's ok, we reached the Superbowl .

But Maye needs to clear up and definitely work on his processing speed and intermediate passes. Without that , I don't think Maye can last long in this league.

On the "checkdown Charlie" thing: as a general rule, Maye took about 10-12 shots more than 10 yards downfield a game. So it's not like he was literally always going for "kill shots." I'm not sure if the issue that leads to him taking too many sacks is primarily processing or committing.

IMO, the biggest thing? He and McDaniels need to figure out why they keep stalling out in the red zone. This team might have challenged Denver's scoring record if it weren't for that.

This might be a minority opinion, but I think the passing game struggles in the red zone is because Maye struggles in the quick game (making reads and throwing an accurate short ball).

Chism barely played, Edelman barely played early on, doesn’t mean much. Demario led this team in receiving last year, just about every stat that counts. This year they mismanaged him.

Both have good slot measurables and have impressed so far.

Love the Drake but I was wondering what you all think he should concentrate on this off season?
I will start.
I think he should work on his diet and leave standard American Diet (SAD) far behind him. The NFL is punishing enough so he needs to focus on his diet and eat for his avatar controllers ( gut biome) and let go of all the baked goods which likely have oil seeds and full of empty carbs like I have been seeing on TikTok.
Brady had some quackery to his methods but he got a lot right (over 95%) with his diet.
It is as simple as making sure whenever you eat, you include food that includes plant cell wall to feed your gut biome-the only thing they eat. No processed foods( basically anything with a bar code should be a no for him and if he’s able to get to this level with his diet, his ability to reach his potential will be maxed!
This is the only thing I can think of for him to focus on. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Drake Maye's biggest weakness is pocket awareness and poise. He gave up way too many fumbles and took too many sacks this year.

I believe that's the biggest thing holding him back from taking it to the next level.

He needs to work all the drills to become the best he can in that telephone booth.

He needs to be able to feel the pressure and know how to move to buy that extra second and then decide quickly to either throw it away or eat the sack while PROTECTING the football.

The video was basically look there was plenty of receiver open!! Like a fan would do on the GDT.

Some guy look open but are so late in the progression that you won’t have time to get to it.

Or it was like look there is the check down open 10 yds before the stick. Failing to mention that it was 3rd down so you are looking to throw behind the sticks and it’s not really the time that you are looking to check down.

Drake Maye didn’t play well but like JT O’Sullivan pointed out in his review the non existent pressure plan by the offensive coaching staff doomed plays from the start and was the biggest problem in this game

One glaring deficiency I saw in this year's offense is an Andy Reid staple; the quick release pick play, aka "rub route". Whenever KC needs a first down in a key spot, its always there... McDaniels needs to adopt this next season. You can't argue with it's effectiveness based on how long Reid's been using it.

Yeah most of the other video breakdowns I've seen simply do not agree with Benkert on this one. Did Drake play well? Certainly not, but it's obvious the line was a far bigger cause of problems than Drake himself. He got heated up bigtime and then started to make mistakes - that's pretty normal. I also think the consecutive weeks of being heated up really screwed up his mental processing and mechanics.

This is why young QBs get broken playing behind bad lines. CJ Stroud looked like the next big thing his rookie year then the past two years he's been given subpar protection and bad habits have crept in. Plenty of other examples.

Does Drake have plenty to improve on? Clearly yes. His pocket poise that was so prominent in the regular season seems to have abandoned him as the playoffs wore on. But I sympathize that it's just hard if you (for very good reason) do not trust your blindside protection. The rookie linemen got eaten alive in the playoffs and if that doesn't improve we are in a rough spot going forward. They can roll with those guys again and hopefully they improve but if there's no backup plan I will be extremely concerned going forward.

We cannot have this go from a bad 4 game stretch to a bad 17 game stretch next season or I worry we will break Drake Maye longer term

Young people are NOT immortal, even superior athletes like Maye. The beating he took all season took it’s toll.

Short game takes awhile to develop on the NFL. How long was it before Brady got good at eating small chunks? I hope Maye works on it, but it isn't an easy game to get good at. I wouldn't expect that to develop over an off-season, as it is made difficult because of gameday speed. Thousands on thousands of reps are necessary.

I'd like to see him do half and half:

1. develop and perfect talent that is immediately available (using your legs, pocket presence, scrambling, deep ball accuracy)

2. Begin working and developing your cerebral approach to the NFL (at the line calls, short game, hot route identification, processing speed, confidence, etc)

1. He needs to be able to get tougher on his OL & WR. He's so kind and wants to be best friends with teammates, but some guys just aren't doing their job well enough.
2. He needs to be better. Seeing blitz, adjusting protections and hot routes, and mostly knowing when to give up and duck before getting hammered for the sack. He has WAY too many fumbles in the pocket.
3. He needs to get more consistent with accuracy, work on mechanics, and learn to slide.

I think he need to work on his speed of throwing the ball. One of his biggest weaknesses is he doesn't throw the ball quick enough when pressure comes. He really needs to work on a one to two step drop and fire the ball to a receiver in the flat or in a short slant. Some of it is his mechanics and others is he doesn't make the quickest of decisions at times. He needs to work on both.

As for his pocket presence, he had great pocket presence during the season. He stepped up exactly when he needed to and he scrambled out of the pocket. I think in the playoffs it was a combination of far better competition, poor line play, and him overthinking not to turn over the ball that killed that.

He also needs to work on maturing. This really can't be done in the offseason, but it needs to be done. He still is young and gets too hyped up in big games and big situations. He needs to find a way to be calm and confident.

Yep. The biggest thing missing from his game was what he needed the most over the past month, the ability to take 2 steps and get rid of it.

I agree he has to get rid of the ball sooner and that may be progressing through his reads quicker. I also agree that he holds the ball too low and with his small hands he is susceptible to fumbling. The final point is he needs to be able to recognize what coverage the defense is in. Against Seattle, who camouflaged their defenses very well, they also went against their own tendencies by blitzing Devin Witherspoon, who hadn't blitzed in a game since September. He has to see the blitz and throw to the hot read. The WR's need to adjust their route as well..

Well said. I agree with all of that. Some of it is just straight maturity. Learn to take what is there, particularly in big games. He is trying to make the big play too often.
