Patriots Injury News Campbell Says He's Been Playing with a Torn Ligament in His Knee

i'm wondering, considering the way it went down, if he tore it more/re-injured it during the superbowl - he had a solid game at Denver, probably got all the reps or most of the reps headed into the game, and they just felt a prepared but injured WC was a better option than lowe once the game got going.....

Thanks for that Ross good info as always ! Does Wyatt teller do anything for you?

Moses is a huge locker room leader and really played well this season.. age and injuries come with him as well.. I too hope that Bryant could continue to develop and be the eventual RT.. old friend vederian lowe can also play on the right side as well.. I think lowe has overcome his issues and can be a solid option for us.. on the line in general..

We need to sure up our own guys we value as well as seek FAs.
I don't remember Lowe being effective on the right side. He is adequate on the left but not a long-term answer. To me, he only has value as a backup LT. I would like to see another LT to challenge Campbell. Best player wins. Moses has value as a backup locker room guy.

He was there in 2023 and 2024.. out of necessity.. he can at least line up there and pretend to block.. he Bryant can also play LT as well.. Campbell is the guy there.. he just needs to get healthy and will improve his game.. he's not a finished product.. agreed on Moses..

He never was completely healthy.. when he first went on IR Vrabel said to the media he Put him on IR to protect him from himself.. I just didn't see what the benefits were keeping him in when he's clearly struggling.. not that Lowe was some all pro but we saw what great coaching did for Lowe as he even said the coaching this season helped him. Lowe at least is a veteran with starting experience..

I don't know what Bryant really is. He faded out of sight and never really contributed. He wasn't counted on as the extra lineman at all and didn't challenge Lowe. What is his trajectory?

Unless they think Moses is going to fall apart, I think the ride with him one more year, well, unless they draft a RT. If Bryant got passed up by Munford during the season, Munford will probably be back to be the backup RT and jumbo extra O lineman again. The hope has to be that either he or Bryant can become the starter once Moses is done.
I didn't feel like Bryant got passed by Munford so much as they felt Munford was a real "swing" tackle vs. Bryant who was locked into one side (RT). Munford also had a lot more experience with being the 6th OL for game day, etc. Bryant was really just red-shirting.

Bryant's a young player with tremendous upside has good length and play strength.. Marrone is developing him and we should expect to see a jump next season.. I think i remember hearing he got injured or something during the season?

I understand. Which LG - Center combo is preferred?

Wilson - Linderbaum
Edwards - Bradbury
Edwards - Wilson
Campbell - Linderbaum

I think Campbell - Linderbaum is the best by a mile. Now we can run the ball inside the tackles.

On defense we are strongest inside the tackles and on the OL I think we should have the same approach.
I am voting for Edwards-Bradbury/Wilson. I am not convinced that Campbell will be able to successfully transition to LG. I know that was the predraft narrative but I do not recall anyone explaining why they thought that, he might be alright in an outside zone heavy scheme. The "draft experts" seem to think that if a OT can't stay outside then they can seamlessly transition inside. That is not always the case.

What's so frustrating is even when Munford was in at the 6th guy we were getting beat up front with 4 guys rushing.. I saw big differences late in the season with Mumford in.. the postseason not so much.

Maybe. They didn't seem to have any problems playing rookies on the left side. So I could see it going either way. This is just another one of those things that I think will be interesting camp battles to watch. The line is clearly still a work in progress.

We need guys to get healthy first.. we saw Campbell hold his own this season.. we expect to add talent, depth all over the team.. Campbell should stay right where he is and just continue to work on his game and return to full health.

Thats what I was getting at is that WC should stay at LT and add a LG and let Bradbury and Wilson fight it out for the starting Center job

i get he was never fully healthy, but his performance at denver was light years better than the SB......thinking he was 'healthy enough' and then probably made it worse in the SB, and at that point they were basically committed

So people here think that Campbell should have been benched after shutting out one of the best pass rushers in football in the AFCChampionship
game.
Maybe Lowe would have been better if the injury was that bad.

The entire OL had not been playing well leading into the game averaging FIVE sacks a game going into the SB

But yes, his performance in the AFC Championships really should be looked at with admiration and respect especially given what we now know about his injury.

Go back and watch it - he's getting pushed all around the field. And yet, he's using some pretty savvy OL technique to hold his man up enough for Maye to make the throw (albeit Maye's not been on point either in the snow bowl games, and sometimes hold the ball too long too).

That's a well coached kid with good technique in my book.

But seeing that he's unable to/not trying to overpower rushers makes a lot more sense now - but he still did what he needed to in that game.

Agreed he could have aggravated the injury at Denver?? Or in practice??

Understand... Wilson took snaps at C during training camp early on.. I remember Phil Perry reporting that he was seeing snaps over Bradbury... so that's an interesting spot to keep an eye on.. LT Campbell, LG Brown or (new LG,) C Wilson ,RG ownenu, RT Moses seems like the line up???..

Football, like hockey, is a man's game, and people need to realize that most of these prospects are still kids when they get drafted. I'm not talking about chronological age, I'm talking about the physical difference between men and boys. And players like Maye and Campbell are boys playing a man's game, and as such need time to both develop as players, and to develop from boys to men. I think we will see Naye and all of these rookies develop from boys to men over the next year, and we will see the difference in them both physically and mentally in making that transition to pro players. Vrabel has made it clear that he sees developing these kids into good pro players as a major part of his job, and he's giving them the teaching, time, and support to develop into quality pro players.

I'm totally for Will staying at LT - all the moving talk is dumb.
BUT - I would have also been for rotating him with Lowe for the freaking SB!!! if his lingering knee wasn't healed and he was getting torched! Lowe isn't great - but could have withstood the power bull rushes that completely dominated both Will & Jared.
I was pissed they didn't give Brown a shot - who is much more stout and sized than Wilson.
