Not sure if anyone listened to Mike Mayock today, but he gave some great insights into the Patriots, Belichick as GM, Elliot Wolf etc.

One of the stories he told was that he would come to Foxboro in the wee hours of the morning each year (he said 4:30am) and he and Belichick would hash it out on every player in the upcoming draft. They would go over film together and Belichick would pick his brain in order to get a sense of where the league (and the people Mayock was talking to) had valued each of the players. So Belichick had his board and another which was the league board.

He thought the problem for the late era Dynasty was the departure of Caserio, because he described the Patriots process this way: a couple of months before the draft, Pioli and Caserio would take over and they'd send the scouts on their way to begin scouting college players for the next season (i.e. the scouts were attending spring practices and the like, NOT working the draft). This is where Belichick came in-- so it seems Belichick came in AFTER the season when the Patriots personnel people took over, after the scouts had weighed in.

He had several more good stories about Belichick and also some stuff on Antonio Brown. It was a good listen.

Your argument makes no sense so let's move on from the rest.
Tarnish legacy? What are you talking about? Trading Brady for 3 first round picks could have possibly led to them contending for another decade vs the 1 year of contention and 6 years of downhill, so BB didn't think about that?
BB had to have considered it.
Not tarnishing his legacy at all, he's the greatest coach of All time, though the game passed him by in the end. He was also among the greatest GM's of all time but his inability to adjust as a coach and GM toward the end was his downfall. Doesn't erase the decades of greatness before that. He could be first ballot HOF as a GM alone, never mind as a coach.
So that’s your way of giving up. You can’t rebut my argument so “let’s move in”. Yu are awarded the L.

Belichick trying to trade the GOAT QB at that time would be stipid. Of course you are trying to tarnish his legacy. Are you actually trying to say trading Brady and keeping JAG would be good? Jesus you are worse than I thought.

Brady wanted another ring. He was not going to get it in NE. It worked out best for everyone. You could make a strong case if Brady stayed 2 more years, we likely would still be searching for our next Super Bowl appearance
In hindsight yes.
The 2019 team had flaws and there was not enough cap room to even keep it together much less improve it.
We started a rebuild in 2020. We got the QB wrong. Fixed that in 2024 and are back. Keeping Brady through a rebuilt to pay him another 75 million would have been detrimental.
Brady leaving was good for the football team, but emotionally it was bad.

I wouldn't but I'm not making this an Andy -level debate.
Fair enough, it all depends on what you value.
He was Marshall Faulk before Marshall Faulk, in an era where such a thing didn't exist, and was huge in playoff games.

I'm incapable of an Andy-level debate, anyway.

Unless he was playing the Giants or Washington who were responsible for 6 of his 7 play off losses holding him to 3 ypc.
And 2 of those NYG losses were with Belichick as Giants' DC. (85 and 87)

Craig probably doesn't have all the stats, but the fact that 30 something years later we still think of him as one of the core pieces of that Niners dynasty speaks to why he should be in

I don't have the OCD/ADD to pull off an Andy debate...but I can come close.

I very much appreciate Roger Craig. 3X SB champion. 1000/1000 club. Consistent production in a passing offense. I remember him at Nebraska until Mike Rozier took his job. He was excellent.

I just struggle with him as a HoFer. I don't have anything against him. Maybe i'll come around...

Belichick was DC in 1991 NFCCG. Craig’s fumble ended the 3-peat

Don’t give up hope. While intellect is what it is you can still work to gain knowledge, communication skills and critical thinking abilities.

He wasn't what I would call dynamic.

The running backs of that era had some eye-popping dynamism. From Eric ****erson to Barry Sanders and Marcus Allen, Walter Payton and Billy Sims. Bo Jackson!

But there were a bunch of steady backs, some of whom racked up huge yardage. Emmitt Smith and Thurman Thomas, for instance, they didn't really electrify you as much as they kind of wore you down.

Your argument is BB would never have traded Brady. Yet he met with Tom House and asked House why he shouldn't trade Tom Brady. Like I said, you are 100% unable to be objective so it's pointless discussing with you.

My argument is since Brady didn’t decline BB would trade him. Every coach/GM considers if they should trade every player, and often decide no.
So the guy who says john lynch is a liar and is fomenting an argument based on made up opinions and twisted words thinks someone else isn’t objective. Rich.
So your new argument is belichick let tom house decide his roster moves.
You are laughable.

Who said John Lynch was a liar, not me.
BB considered trading Brady and how close he came is impossible to know. That's been my point the whole time.

House proved it. House was part of the decision making for BB as he analyzed whether to trade Brady or not.
