The worst part about this are the people who are trying to justify why the he isn't a first ballot.

BB's biggest mistake was coaching after Brady left. Doesn't anyone else remember the onslaught from the national media he took on during 2020? It continued almost halfway into the 2021 season until the Pats went on the 7 game winning streak. Then everything crashed down during the 2022-2023 seasons. He should've left with Brady, taken a year off to line up a better job to break Shula's record.

Bill should have left when Kraft chose Brady over Belichick.

Are you referring to 2017?
I believe that was the year. Bill wanted to trade Tommy to SF for a boatload of picks and play Jimmy G. Kraft wouldn't let him do it. Kraft hired Bill to run the team but rescinded that because of his belief in Tommy. I'm not judging any of that. Just saying once Kraft no longer let Bill run the team as he saw fit, he should have left after that year.

Nah his biggest issue was his personality and how he liked to deal with people he didn't like. Spygate was a mountain out of a molehill but it happened because Bill was told not to do something by the league and then by Mangini and just wanted to try to play smart aleck and thumb his nose at them and it set the ball rolling. Same with his relationship with the media, them not liking him was mostly just him making a process difficult for people who were just doing their jobs in a league that was an entertainment league.

Nobody is holding his record without Brady against him seriously for a HOF vote. It was Spygate and that the people in the room were mostly media members and there was bad blood and some of them were looking for whatever reason they could to avoid voting for him.

I mean he also picked Belichick over Brady longterm like 2 years later.

The reality is that no owner in the entire NFL was going to let the HC get rid of a QB having an MVP season right after he just won his 5th Super Bowl. The coach could have been the love child of Vince Lombardi and Paul Brown with Belichick as it's godfather, no one is letting that happen. If he thought he was getting a job somewhere else that was going to grant him that sort of level of control, he heavily overestimated things.

Frankly, it's doubtful he would even have gotten a job that would have given him 100% control at all. No team in the league used that model anymore. It was considered archaic and we were the exception because we had the oldest regime in the league and it was grandfathered in.

There are times an Owner has to step in and overrule the HC/GM. 1996 was not that time, but it was many years later. BB was contemplating moving on from Tom after the 2013 season. This was why he drafted Jimmy G in 2014 which I still think was an idiotic draft pick. Fans downplayed it as the Pats needed a backup, but it was clear as day BB thought Tom was "falling off a cliff". That move didn't age well for Bill.

Fast forward to 2017, it turns out Brady didn't like having Jimmy G lingering around as the backup. I've posted articles on here before, but Jimmy was going on around the locker room acting like he was taking over the team soon and Brady wasn't having any of it. Also, Jimmy was going to be a FA soon and he had already rejected the Pats offers to re-sign him.
Brady got wind of this and asked for Bob to get rid of Jimmy (which he agreed) and forced BB facilitate the trade. This pissed off BB and could be a reason why he was quickly traded for a measly 2nd round pick and additional trash (Jonathan Cooper). We are lucky Jimmy G didn't re-sign or else Tom would've been traded during the 2017 season.

This was exactly why the media turned on him so quickly. They hated him and were waiting to see him fail without Tom Brady. Once the national media turns on you, your legacy is cooked.

Yup. If Bill was a figure that had a good relationship with the media Tomlin or McDaniel then we would have only heard "he sold out to win with Brady then Brady left and he's in his 70's and father time caught up".

They didn't like him, so when they had the chance they danced on his grave and piled on.

And that doesn't make your job easier. He had a spotlight on him in 2023 when people might have given him a break and softened the blow of that season. Then he was second guessed during his HC search for the 2024 off season and ended up not getting a job. Then UNC which was objectively a mess was treated like a total circus that embarrassed the school.

Some how, some way Tom Brady let air out of my car tires last night and the low pressure light came on this morning.

I mean, it COULD instead be that we are having a cold snap, and PV=nRT, but you gotta trust the NFL that this can't happen.
They tested balls in the cold to make sure it couldn't happen.

In hindsight yes, but he was too confident that he would be given an appropriate leash.

I still say he would've rebuilt the team but I didn't account for the apparent animus between him and the Krafts, especially Jonathan. If he knew Kraft considered firing him after 2017, then maybe he should've taken the hint. But possibly he didn't know.

You need ownership to be fully in your corner, and though Belichick brought it on himself with the hiring of Patricia in 2022, I lay it on Kraft's feet for the 2023 debacle. No one could coach anything but a disastrous season under those circumstances. I dont understand why Kraft didnt understand this either. You've got to all be on the same page and have the same level of commitment. If not, then why bother?

Of course, if any of what I just wrote had gone reasonably, we probably wouldn't have Drake Maye as our QB. And Belichick would likely have retired by age 73 anyway.

Can you show me where you're getting this?

Because there are articles and interviews out there that say this absolutely did not happen. Unless 49ers GM Lynch is an absolute liar, he has been very forthright in that he was pressing Belichick 2x for Brady. Once in early 2017 after the season and once again in Oct 2017. Lynch says not only was he totally rebuffed the first time, but that the second time he called in October Belichick ridiculed and laughed at him. They had a nice brief chat. Then an hour later Belichick called back and offered Lynch Garoppolo. Are we saying somehow that Lynch is lying here?

Bill sabotaged himself in many ways. I guess because he's human. Almost all the criticism of him is wrong and stupid, but he has feelings. He got rid of Adam, Deion and Tom. He still would have passed Shula if he'd just kept Zappe in there.

I suppose all mad scientists are flawed in some way.

I do think we here in New England should show him unconditional love, but we won't.

BB should go to Buffalo and get the all time wins record.

He certainly wouldn’t be a worse GM than Beane.

Does Jordan Richards have any sons?

Tom wanted to leave before the contract kerfuffle. Remember the boat visit with the Dolphins. I don't blame Brady for wanting to leave. I would too if I looked at the age of my fellow Super Bowl winning Patriots like McCourty, Chung, Hightower, Collins, Gronk, Edelman, etc. The '19 season reaffirmed to Brady that he was never going to win another one in New England again.

Consider this hypothetical possibility: Brady stays with the Patriots and they hire Stefanski or Josh McDaniels as HC. Belichick leaves or is fired and instead goes to the Bucs who just suffered through a 7-9 season with an all-pro cast, so they cut Arians loose.

What would the story of these 2 have looked like?

But according to Tom, his wife was seeking to spread her wings again after sacrificing her career for him....
And.....It was an opportunity for him to spend more time with his kids.

And I believe he wanted $25 mill from somebody.....anybody
****Too rich a price for the NE hierarchy****

He won't get a job anywhere if he also needs to be the GM like he's accustomed to. That's one of his biggest issues right now. No team in the league does it that way and they won't change their set up for a coach who will be 74.

If he wants to come back in the NFL, he needs to find a GM he gets off with and pulls an Andy Reid and only focuses on coaching. If the GM who is currently in place thinks he is going to make a power play, then they are going to lobby the owner to not hire him. That's what happened in Atlanta. They all were worried he was going to come in and try to take control and they would all lose their jobs, so everyone told Blank to back off him.

Beane might not have long in Buffalo, but they will find another GM before giving a coach full control.

Tom already said why he left. People can ignore it if they want, but he answered the question already

Seems like you are ignoring a few of his very public statements at the time

I have no evidence just my belief.
