We'll, I don't know about the "meh" play calls because we don't don't what the original play was. However, Brady told Shaq on his podcast that he learned the Pats offense within a few days when he was a rookie. By the time McDaniels was elevated to play caller/OC, Tom was a 3 time Super Bowl Champion. So, he was basically running Brady's offense and you still see it today. In fact, Derek Carr said McDaniels told him that Brady "bullied" him in NE. I have no idea why McDaniels would tell him this.

In terms of teams McDaniels/Brady had a hard time adjusting to, there were surprisingly many. Denver 2005-2006, Giants 2007 & 2011, Baltimore 2009-2012, Jets 2009-2010. Baltimore 2014, Seattle 2014, Atlanta 2016 and Jacksonville 2017 were the big games Tom/McDaniels came back from. Houston gave him some trouble one year I don't forget which, but the Pats pulled away.

With that said, McDaniels has done a great job rehabbing his image.

Also, to be fair, this is a huge benefit and purpose of EP, no? It's basically why it's a perfect system to run no-huddle with. Unless I am misunderstanding.

Teach your players the concepts, trust that they'll learn more and more about football the more they learn that concepts, and then can all be on the same page and make adjustments as they see fit in specific situations.

I also think the Carr quote might be either unfair or taken out of context... It's the QB of the team he just sucked ass with. Watching **** like Games With Names, you hear enough to know that McDaniels was doing a lot of the playcalling.

He is Darold's number 1 read. Period. All the time. Take him away and get to Darnold which I think the line can, and it might get ugly.

Baringer better have the absolute best game of his life so when JSN does catch, it's only to try and dig themselves out of bad field position, not to put them in scoring position.

Seriously. ST is gonna be a big fight, and winning that will be probably spell the victor.

And there are people who know much more than you or I have paid him a LOT of money for the last quarter of a century who believe you are really, REALLY wrong in what you think. That and a LOT of definitive evidence.

BTW- Every fan sits in front of his TV and yells at his screen when he disagrees with a call that's made. I do it every time Josh lines up in a shot gun on 3rd and 3 and give up the possibility of a run by alignment. I've been complaining about this for 20 years. But we all do that, with every OC that graces our presence. It's part of the nature of being a sport fans. We all have a right to express our opinion, but we SHOULD know that those opinions are based on a vast amount of knowledge LESS than what that OC is basing his decision.

I would wager that give my 25+ years of coaching and playing the game, I know a lot more of the game than most. Well compared to an NFL professional, I might know about 4% of what the guy I'm complaining about at the time knows. and less that that when you think about other things he has privy to, like injury status, what the other team is doing, etc., etc., etc.

I'm not telling you NOT to complain or whine at a call, I'm just asking you keep some of the stuff you DON'T know in mind sometimes.
I have a buddy that is a college OC and he was explaining to me how difficult it can be during a game to look at situation, plays, how certain plays were executed vs certain looks (did that CB use an inside leverage, did the MLB bite on play action, etc..) and get the selected play in to the QB that allows them enough time to set protection or audible.

Then there are throw away plays used to help set something up for later. He tells me that there have been several games that when he watches film he is like why would I do that because the OL is susceptible to stunts or some other situation. I admit that I always think it is easier than it really is.

I am exactly 100% in hindsight at least 50% of the time.

I think this was all clearly noticeable watching it live..
But yeah, the lost hidden yardage was irritating as hell. Baringer was on my hit list yesterday for about 3-4 hours.

The more I look at that play. Stidham really had no pressure on him and casually just lobbed the throw like you would to a man wide open. I truthfully believe he did not see Gonzo with the whiteout conditions
That ill-fated pass was a rainbow like punt that Gonzo was waiting to fair catch.

Ive been thinking more about the game and Payton. He had to prove that Stidham was more than a backup after all the boasting he did before the game. Letting Stidham throw on 4th and 1. Leaning heavy on the run would have made Payton look like a fool and destroyed any confidence that he had in Stidham.

Baringer had a bad game overall. I will say, it was a clear and obvious directive to not punt anywhere near Mims, I have no idea how much that affected things.

There are 5 players with SB experience on the roster.

The two obvious:

Milton Williams
Carlton Davis

But there is also

Christian Eliss
Mack Hollins
Austin Hooper
Plus, Vrabel & JMD etc..

Also on Payton overthinking everything because his reputation was on the line

How about Mcdaniels digging back into the playbook and running the direct snap with ,Maye pretending that ball went over his head?

The snap was almost not caught too. Then the Flea flicker. Lots of razzle dazzle in the cold.

Please post them. I don't recall anyone in the media acknowledging the Pats injuries against the Colts and the team having the flu in the 2006 AFCCG. Nobody cared that Brady's severe ankle sprain and injuries to Colvin, Neal and Morris which gave the Giants a much needed edge in 2007. How about Gronk's injury against the Giants in 2011 playing on one leg? What about Gronk missing the game against the Ravens in 2012 and Talib injured in game? Nobody cared how many injuries the Pats had going back to Denver in 2015. How about 2017?

I have zero sympathy for any teams with injuries.

Didn’t want to start a thread just for this and if will fit here as well as anywhere.

I have no particular animosity towards the Titans, and here is a Titans fan lamenting Vrabel’s going to the SB after the Titans fired him.
