Would be sweet if they hired the circus show of Belichick and his, ahem, entourage.

Won't happen with their idiot GM newly elevated to president of football operations.

I said it in the Tomlin thread and I will say it again here this stupid **** is change for changes sake. Mediocre coach? Sure and if there was a Vrable or Ben Johnson in the coaching pool that you 100% believed in fine go get them. Problem is this year doesn't have coaches like that just a different flavor of eh.

I have to agree.

Imagine what Belichick could have done if he didn't lose his mind beginning with the night of SB 52. (The Pats would have won three straight SB's - 51,52,53 - he either could have won more with Brady going forward or he would have been in the same postion right now with the Buffalo Bills job landing in his lap).

A great mind is a terrible thing to waste.

.
What do you think happened that week and why do you think Bill lost his mind with the decision he made putting his worst CB (Rowe) on the Eagles best WR in Jeffrey? I remember the media put it out there during the week that the Eagles were going to attack him when they saw him on the field. My jaw dropped when I saw Rowe on Jeffrey the 1st two drives which resulted in 10 straight points.

McDermott should have been let go last year but yeah with a depleted team this is not the best example of why McD should have been let go, if anything you look at the GM as to why the roster is in this way to begin with. With Tomlin, Pitt just needs to be baaaad and Tomlin wont allow it because he is too good to coach a bad team but not good enough to coach the team up to a championship level either

The ghost of Marv Levy continues....
Many almosts, but never the big prize...

When the Patriots win, it seems to always cause a ruckus in the NFL coaching ranks in the division.

McDermott is a good coach and had a good run there. His time was up.

I blame the media in all this. They were the one's that hyped up this bad roster and projected them to be a Super Bowl or bust team. Ownership believed the nonsense.

They actually overachieved in my book.

It's like a weekly surprise coaching firing. 3 weeks ago it was Harbaugh after the MNF winner-take-all PIT/BAL game. After the WC round it was Tomlin. This week it was McDermott. Who will it be next weekend? Is it finally over? Lol

McDermott is a fine coach but I also think he kind of feeds into the "poor, poor me's" that BUF fans and players have and doesn't hold Josh Allen accountable.

He's up at the podium crying about the Brandin Cooks catch vs. interception call but that's out of their control. What is in their control is Allen not holding the ball with one hand and shot putting it backwards before the half for DEN to recover and get a free 3 points off it. I feel like McDermott feeds into the attitude that the Bills (fans, players coaches) all have that everything they do is good and when they lose they're just unlucky or someone screwed them over. Never any accountability with that team. They just wallow in their self pitty.

You saw it yesterday with that pathetic Bills fan whining about how our road this year is so much easier than what they have had during their years of competing. Well this road could have been theirs if they earned it, but they won't hold themselves accountable for that they'll just cry that they were unlucky.

Even you go back to the last time we played them. On their drive there was a sideline catch that got overturned on replay because Vrabel threw a flag on so they had to stop the game and then they did the expediated review. Then on our drive we had a catch that probably should have been overturned but instead of throwing the flag they just whined and cried at the refs to look at it. They didn't force it like Vrabel did. But the Bills just act like the world is out to get them instead of holding themselves accountable for what they should do in that situation to make their own luck.

Yep. This year was their perhaps their best opportunity with Mahomes and Jackson out of the tournament. Plus with the Pats winning the division, I’m sure the owners felt like they are now behind the curve (which they are of course). They need a new voice and a fresh perspective. I don’t get keeping the GM, but maybe they feel the roster issues are quite fixable.

I have no idea. The whole thing 8 years later is still a bizarre mystery. Compounded by the fact that 15 minutes before the game Rowe was not even running warmup formation drills with the first team - - Butler was!!!!!

If it happened during the week and he made the decision not to play Butler in the game, why the above AND take up an active roster spot by suiting up Butler????? Alan Branch was left Inactive - - HE could have taken Butler's spot - it would have helped against LaGarrette Blount running straight through our DL for 92 yards on 18 rushes that game.

Medics should have done a "Wellness Check" on the Head Coach of the New England Patriots at halftime that night.

History will show: The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 52 due to mental illness.

16 seconds to go in the half, no time outs from own 30 and he doesn't have Allen take a knee....costs him the game and his job.

Absolutely his fault given that the playcall was undoubtedly for Josh to run around holding out the ball for anyone who wanted it. Definitely the coach's fault.

Seriously - the MMQB about that choice is killing me. He's supposedly the #1 or #2 QB in the league and somewhere in the top 100 or 50 all time QBs. Two quick passes to get into FG range and people are gonna be glazing Josh's nuts.

But Josh plays moronic hero ball and it's the coach's fault? I say this as someone who really enjoys Allen and is glad he's in the league, but he's good for some real himbo plays when the game is on the line.

So given the playoffs, they had to wait until the two name-brand veteran coaches were off the market. And there's no obvious Ben Johnson type this year.

If you're the Bills, which direction do you turn?
Thinking Tomlin the best out there at the moment and he's just McDermott clone when it comes to closing the deal. They really ****ed JA.

Indy and Cinci are on my watch list but I think those will be next year decisions.

The only thing that ever made sense for me is that Butler sucked that year defending big bodies receivers downfield on contested catches and that's exactly what PHI had with Jeffrey and Torrey Smith on the outside. It was a genuinely awful matchup for Butler. And if I recall correctly, they struggled initially because Gilmore/Rowe were playing sides which resulted in Rowe on Jeffrey a lot which killed us. In the second half I recall them switching so it was still Rowe playing but Gilmore followed Jeffrey and Rowe went with Smith. From that point on they were fine with limiting the outside WRs, it was Chung covering in the slot that killed them.

For as much complaining as its gotten over the years, I actually think Rowe in the game was a fine call. They just should have started with also having Gilmore follow Jeffrey. Again, Butler was a legitimately awful matchup for the outside WRs PHI had and Rowe was fine once on Smith. However, with Chung getting torched in the slot I don't see why they didn't at least try Butler there. And the shadiness around the move and the explanation made it a huge thing too.

Judging by what happened after that season, the decision might be bad but still logical. Rowe actually stayed in the NFL and started. Butler left and was exposed and he wasnt very good. He was out of the league a couple years later.

You mentioned Jefferey. It wasn't only Jeffrey who was a big guy who had trouble separating. All their WRs were big. Belichikc might've gone size against size, while Butler had ended the season poorly.

It might be as simple as that, who knows. But the league did see more value in Rowe than in Butler in subsequent years.
