Give him a QB he'll win, don't have a QB he'll go another decade without a playoff win.

The Steelers biggest issue is they've never solved quarterback, changing the coach won't matter until they find a QB.

It was time. No playoff wins in 9 years and they seemed to keep patching together teams that would never really go anywhere to maintain his "never had a below .500 season" thing. They need to tear it down to the studs and have a tank year and try and get in the running for Manning or whomever else emerges in the 2027 draft.

Now we'll find out if the obsession with no losing and patching together borderline playoff teams was a Tomlin thing or a Steelers thing.

If it was a Tomlin thing pieces like TJ Watt even Metcalf will be traded away and they'll hire an offensive coach and start a full rebuild, if it's a Steelers thing they'll bring everyone back hire Brian Flores for the "defensive culture" and bring in another band aid at QB and have another 10-7 season with no prospect of winning anything.

A big loss for Pittsburgh. If you want your team to get 9-10 win, barely get into the playoffs, and be one and done, I don't think there is a better coach in history than Mike Tomlin.

Even the greatest one and done playoff head coach, Marvin Lewis, would get 13-14 wins time to time before going one and done in the playoffs. Who would want that.

Oh oh oh oh,
oh oh oh oh,
oh oh oh my gosh

Wonder if Tomlin is going to take a year or if he's going attempt to ride off into the sunset, but fall off before he get's to the ranch gate...

One weird thing about Tomlin is for a guy who's been coaching 20 years he has no coaching tree at all like who are his coaches who left and went somewhere else?

Even Bill had loads they failed but there was at least a tree, Tomlin doesn't even have a branch now i think about it, there's none.

Bruce Arians worked for him and went on to become a head coach but he was never a Tomlin guy.

I lost a lot of respect for him years ago when he deliberately tripped a guy running down the sidelline. Then I got used to him and sort of felt at least with him at the helm you could be pretty sure the Steelers would screw up in any big game you might have to play against them. I think that as a coach he's pretty much just a third-rate cheerleader. So I'm pretty indifferent as to his departure. I don't think there's a chance in Hell he'll make a decent commentator, though the networks may not care. They are quite happy to assemble a half dozen ex-jocks and let them spew out whatever tedious stream of jock-drivel they care to emit. I literally never listen to that crap - the pregame, the halftime, the post-game. I used to enjoy those shows, back when they had guys who knew what they were talking about and could actually articulate it with intelligence.

Bruce Arians did get a Super Bowl ring even if it was done by riding on Brady's coattails. But not much other than that.

They are lucky they have one of the most loyal fanbases in the league so either way there will be fan support to some extent. I don’t think anyone knows for sure if Omar Khan had final say on personnel but either way Tomlin likely had a ton of influence. I would think Tomlin was at the forefront of the patch it together approach with some of the free agent signings over the last few years and making no attempt to find a young QB once Pickett flamed out.

was never a tomlin fan since he complained about headsets and his dislike for the pats on the openmic in the locker room. he got away a lot with the media because of his loud bombastic quotes which another coach might not have

I imagine the media will be breaking down his door.
