OT: Drop in Passing Yards Across the NFL in 2025

I blame the new damn kickoff rules giving people stupidly good field position regularly.

It also seems that teams are attempting more FGs from much longer distances than ever before too.

Another solution that should be enacted before the '26 season begins: BAN the K-Balls and have the place-kickers use the SAME ones that are used for plays from scrimmage. This 60+ ****'s getting ridiculous.

We cant give up on Wilson after 1 year. Move him to Center where he played in college. Draft a LG and a RT.
Vrabel is going to bring in a big back. Whether they keep Stephenson who knows but we'll get a power run game and maybe will be even more dangerous

The quality of good Qb play is down- no question
I think the answer is more than one thing:

-Poor QB play is 100% a factor
-Shorter fields due to KO rules
-Dual threat QBs. Less statues standing in the pocket, more apt to beat teams with the run
-Ticky Tack PI calls. Jump Balls result in downfield flags which are, essentially, long competitions the offense doesn't get credit for.

I didn't go compile any numbers, but I wonder what the rushing stats look like. It wasn't that long ago that Just Fields was a 1000 yard rusher. I'd wager the QB yards from scrimmage #s are consistent.

50 yarders are automatic now. Didn't used to be that way.

Not in New England

Other possible reasons. More hand checking, physical coverage allowed. More blitzes, QB pressure leading to incomplete or shorter passes.
I have to agree with the hand checking and physical coverage, or in actual football terms, holding & interference. Just like holding calls on the Oline, defensive holding & interference calls are being missed left and right by questionable NON calls by bad referees. Thats why it’s so frustrating when teams we root for get hit with these calls, and our opponents don’t.

I would say, it’s more a case of a lot of new QBs in the league as well. They are learning the game at different paces. Some are really good as rookies, some make that 2nd year jump. I’d say by the time these guys are in year 4 or 5, passing numbers will go up.

I see a right tackle drafted first round with a big back 2nd or 3rd
It would be a good move, need a RT, Moses is almost as old as the original Moses. He’s played well, but need a young, Campbell equivalent at RT.

Nick Singleton from Penn State is a good sized back at 6’0” 225. He also has good speed. LJ Martin from BYU is 6’2” 220. Just some big backs to keep our eyes on.

Looks like there are plenty to choose from in the later rounds. I believe vrabel wants a heavy run game to compliment maye

more mobile qb’s is part of the reason, more penalties maybe another reason?

Best athletes get moved to the d line instead of stay as o line?

This analyst however without also looking at rushing yard trends is pretty stupid. It was just one more step to go. That would answer a big queation of if defenses are getting better, or offenses are focusing on rush more than they used to
