OT: Report: Lamar Jackson is wearing out his welcome in Baltimore

Lamar was a guy who had a definite shelf life. He played like a running back and aged like one. Unlike other scramblers/runners like Elway and Young, it's clear he does not have the passing skillset to play when his running skill was compromised. Guys like Lamar opened up passing lanes because defenders had to respect the running threat.

You can win with those guys if you know how to manage them. The Eagles managed Hurts brilliantly in their Super Bowl run.

Jackson has shown this year that his major strength is his threat to run. He has been far less effective this year because he couldn’t run because of injuries. His passing game definitely benefitted from defenses having to have a defender who acts as a spy to stop him from running and pass rushes that needed to be controlled to avoid him taking off and running. Plus, they have to play a lot of zone and less press man to avoid defenders having their backs to Jackson. You take that away and I don’t think he is as good as of passer as people think. Once teams stop fearing his running abilities, they will be able to drop more defenders in coverage and play more aggressively with his receivers.

I live here in MD, Mike Preston, the journalist who wrote this for the Baltimore Sun, is their Ron Borges. He may even be more toxic.

I wouldn't read too much into this.

The more likely scenario is that Harbaugh gets fired.

As lame as it is to have some random NFL moment stuck in my craw I will never, ever stop despising that moment years ago where Harbaugh is on the sidelines telling Lamar that he "changed the game."

Given what we've learned I'm sure it was Harbaugh just trying to pump up his QB but the bitter little ***** of a sports fan in me is like 'oh yeah oh wow a mobile QB sure did change the game in the 2010, definitely don't give that credit to guys like Randall Cunningham....'

Speaking of Randall, I was completely caught off guard to find out he was Sam 'the Bam' Cunningham's little brother. Was rewatching a game vs his Eagles and the Patriots, when I heard the announcer mention this fact. Never would have guessed in a million years.

Lamar going to Miami or Vegas would make a lot of sense, and be great for those teams, but I can't see BAL actually trading him away. Who's going to be better for them next year? And, honestly, the Dolphins have already suffered through Tua, who has the same big game collapses, and constant injuries.
Now, for me - I don't want a boom or bust QB. Lamar is hitting that age where the entire NFL knows that running QB's start wearing down. They may have had their best chance pass by already. He can still win with his arm and good mobility, but they'd have to re-work their offense and scheme.
I don't care - we have Maye.

Merry christmas to you! Thanks for this insight. I could very see a scenario where Harbaugh is out. Question is.. who would Ravens replace him with??

I know a guy that is from the Maryland area...

Could Miami afford Lamar given they're on the hook for Tua's guaranteed contract?

Yeah it’s a bunch of Harbullshit…already tired of hearing about it.

How does the Baltimore Sun writer (and Colin Cowhered) think Miami is supposed to fit Lamar Jackson's contract into their salary cap?

Tua Tagovailoa's cap numbers:
2026: $56.4 million, $54 million guaranteed

Lamar Jackson's base salary:
2026: $51.25 million
2027: $51.25 million

Both teams would have so much dead money it wouldn't be worth it to either one.
And Miami would have so much money dedicated to QB, they couldn't field a decent team around Jackson - so what would be the point?

The LOLphins would release the entire team (if it came to that) to land Jacko. They'd create future space, restructure with Jacko for years 1/2, and then full compensation once the dead space becomes 'alive' again.

He shouldn't be out of a job long.

If he's out.. who would you say is a viable option to replace him??
It's not really a deep bench this year. They could go after that notre dame coach the Giants have been going after maybe.

Harbaugh has had more talent on that team than anywhere else for decades, and has one super bowl win. Players tuned him out this year. It doesn't matter who you bring in at this point.

My realistic option is BB.. only if he wants it of course.... that's if he wants it.. your right Harbaugh has had years where that team was stacked with talent.

Look at LJs most recent MVP season 2023-24 season. Lamar was sensational. Had home playoff games and Harbaugh still couldn't get it done.

Now Vrabel is back in the AFC with a elite stud QB and next season will be even better. I don't see the Ravens improving from where they are now from a coaching standpoint.

And we are SO fortunate to have Maye.

It isn’t just his generational talent, he seems very grounded and his personality will age well.

Not seeing diva tendencies with him, and hopefully won’t be demanding to set a new record with his QB contract.

One if the reasons I wasn’t enamored with Caleb were the reports that he was looking for partial team ownership before he had ever been drafted.

Merry Christmas you too!

Fans are split on Belichick possibly getting the job. A lot hate him for his Patriots run, but also some fans think with their roster all they need is a good HC. For the past 5 years now, the Ravens are a great regular season team (besides this year) but look unprepared in the playoffs. Some believe Belichick would get them better prepared.

A lot of sports radio has lamented the fact that McDonald left and is now successful in Seattle. There is a large segment of fans and sports talk/media that have wanted Harbaugh out for a number of years now. Bisciotti has resisted but I think it's about time for a divorce especially with the toxic level rising between Lamar and Harbaugh.

Thank you!! Very, very interesting. McDonald was a dam good DC for them.. and Ravens have always had some great defensive teams.. going back to those battles with us. The past few seasons of BBs tenure here as we all know and heard about probably painted that Picture to the fan base outside of NE. I personally could never hate BB guy gave us decades of lasting success..

should BB chose to leave NC and want to come back to the NFL and return to his roots it would be interesting. Biscotti is one of the best owners in the NFL and would make the best decision for his franchise.

OK, OK I get it already. Sorry I did misread your post as saying we should have drafted Jackson. Mea culpa.

You'd have to say it would've been a great post IF I had been right.
After reading it again after your initial response to me, I can see where it can be confusing and look like I was for Lamar and fighting posters who thought it was a mistake to draft Lamar. We are all guilty of either not explaining things clearly enough or misreading stuff.

Many NE fans wanted BB to draft Jackson.
Yes they did, and they would have been WRONG for all the reasons I gave in my earlier post. '18 and '19 off seasons were all about making super bowl runs with Brady.

I get why you'd say that ken. But I'd add that essentially Every off season was about making superbowl runs with Brady.. our worst season with Brady as starting QB was 9-7..
