I mentioned the Barmore of 2023 got through double teams and got to the QB.. again here. I like Barmore I'm only criticism of his play this season he's been on the field if a player is out there they are healthy enough to play right?
I want to preface by saying that I didn't think Barmore was ever going to play again after his blood clot diagnosis. But since he's returned, he's clearly not the same player he once was. There's no hating there.Again Tommy I'm cognizant that Barmore has been through something very serious. Only criticism is his play not the man.
In 2023, there was no threat of Judon along the edge after week 4 and the secondary was garbage. Everyone knew Barmore was the only threat, yet he still found a way to get to the QB. Barmore had a career high 8.5 sacks in only 15 games. Only 1 of those sacks was when Judon was playing. He also had 13 tackles for loss, 16 QB hits and 6 passes defended for that season. In the last 18 games, he's had a whopping 2 sacks, 4 tackles for loss, 8 QB hits and 0 passes defensed. His production has taken a complete nose dive with a better overall supporting cast. What's even worse, the majority of his current production was with Milton Williams in the lineup along with Landry/Chaisson on the edge, Gonzalez/Davis at CB, Spillane at LB.
While his contract for 2025 and 2026 are manageable, it's 2027 where he starts to creep into the top 10 of both cash and cap hits. Meanwhile, Williams' cash and cap hits are top 3 for DT's for the next 4 years. That's another reason why it doesn't make sense to pay two very high contracts with not much to show for it so far.
