Stephen A Smith goes off on rant against Drake Maye

These guys make money making outrageous hot takes. Who cares what Smith says. He is a moron. I would rather listen to Smith's takes on politics than sports and I think most of his takes on politics are some of the dumbest things I have ever heard.

SAS is paid to have hot takes. Personally I think he’s phenomenal at what he does, had some epic rants over the years just for the purpose of entertainment. The majority of the time I think his takes are ridiculous, but there’s a strong chance he doesn’t even believe what he’s saying half the time. He’s just putting on a show. And remember it’s good to have haters. What kind of Pats fan wants to live in a world where everyone has nothing but nice things to say about us?

Most commentators in media don't believe most of what they are saying. They develop on air personas that are different than what they really are and they play to those personas. Most segments they decide before the show that one commentator will take one side of the issue and the other will take the opposite side even if in real life they agree.

Hell, Felger and Mazz even admit to a lot of the time that they are taking the contrarian point of view to generate content.

Smith is pulling classic Rex Ryan.

Landing the first punch by accusing Maye of wrong doing and then claiming he and Cam are the injured party. Patriot haters rush to join the fray in support of Smith and Cam. Cam just sits there looking stupid in his latest 2025 fall outfit not uttering a word.

Meh.. SAS makes 21 million a year from ESPN to do what he does....
So the more money one makes, the more worthy a person one is? Putin, one hears, has billions stashed away. Are the Kardashians the epitome of virtue? The guys who run human trafficking operations are well-heeled. Grow up.

SAS is an unhinged narcissist. First off Cam has been doing everything he could to discredit Drake Maye which kind of sucks because Maye grew up idolizing him but the dumber thing is Maye’s “I don’t know what show they’re on” comment wasn’t that bad in context. Somehow Stephen A spun this into an attack on sports media and disloyalty to athletes or something.

No one has done more damage to the sports media landscape than Stephen A Smith.

On the positive side, everyone hates us again so it is good to be back.

These dudes are unhinged. I don't know what they have against Drake Maye. Is it just because he plays for the Patriots and they hate the Patriots? Dunno.

Maye said nothing wrong imo.

I think he just doesn't pay attention to pundits or waste his time watching those shows. He's doing the much more important work of studying film and trying to become better at football.

As usual you miscalculated a post. That wasn't what I said what I said... seems like the students teaching the teacher here...

"That wasn't what I said what I said."

Uh huh. Who needs help here?

Remember when Montana did essentially the same thing with Brady? I think these guys have a hard time dealing with no longer being the center of attention.
The Brady/Montana relationship was weirdly similar but had key differences.

Montana wasn't trying to find a permanent spot in front of a camera at that point. He had no need for relations with current players. He could be petty and not give af, he was Joe Montana.

And of course, Montana was widely considered the goat, with Brady gunning for the throne. That dynamic is nowhere near at play with Cam.

I stopped listening to ESPN twenty years ago, for the obvious reasons. As for Smith's remarks regarding how valuable ex-players are as commentators on the sport, I frankly do not find any correlation at all between whether a commentator played in the league and the quality of their commentary. There's generally just an abundant flow of jock-speak, jock-cliches. We are fortunate here in New England to have an array of intelligent and insightful sports commentators, few of whom, it is instructive to note, have played the game at the pro level. Perhaps that is because in their college years they spent more time in the classroom and less in the weight room.

If Maye needs help learning how to not give it your all in the Super Bowl by standing there like a jackass, letting your whole team down, instead of diving for a fumble (like Justin Fields did this past Thursday night) I'm sure he'll give Cam Newton a buzz. If he needs help dressing like a ****in circus clown I'm sure Drake will call off practice early to make sure he can get a hold of Cam.

Cam can also throw a mean pass into the ground or get picked on a screen pass if Drake ever needs help with that.

I had no idea what show Cam Newton works for. I'm four pages into this thread and I forget the show's name.
First Snake, which incidentally was the name of a screenplay I pitched to star Kurt Russell reprising his role as Snake Plissken.
