Drake Maye has arrived . . .

Tbf the bigger problem with that was the situational awareness, not the process of him scrambling or throwing. You need to know when the sack or throw away is better. That was a situation where you only throw the ball if you know it's completely safe.
A TD puts it away. If he didn’t see the underneath defender then he isn’t part of the decision and the decision is a safe one because only his guy can get the ball at the back if the end zone.
A mistake not to see him, but a physical error is different then a mental/awareness/situational error.

A TD puts it away, but a field goal means you can't lose the game on the next drive even if everything goes right. The Patriots can play the next drive as aggressive as possible because the two worst case scenarios are they either get a chance to make a game ending field goal drive OR it goes into OT. It would be nicer to end it. But if it's not there, the safest move is to just make sure you can't lose and give your defense a chance without the risk of the game ending.

Right so you are playing for the TD.
You are overlooking the likelihood that his decision was based upon that he thought it was there.
He hasn’t forced throws on those scrambles all year, when it’s not there he has been more than willing to throw it away or run out of bounds.
If he saw the danger, he would have eaten the ball.

I don’t agree with playing it safe and playing not to lose. Vrabel has pushed the exact opposite approach with this team.

I'm not saying he didn't think it was there. I'm saying it was a situation where the field goal was still a win for him and put the team in a position where they weren't at risk of losing in regulation so the only passes should have been ones where there there wasn't even a question.

They almost lost the game because of that. They didn't, but it had nothing to do with Maye's decision there. The defense stepped up, which you would have to trust them to step up in either scenario.

I think Maye will soon become the face of the league. He has everything you’d want in a QB, plus the intangibles. In the words of Colin Cowherd; I want my QBs to be “quarterbackial”

Credit to his command of the offense too. Can’t remember the last time we had a delay of game or had to burn a timeout

Love this kid and the relationship between Drake and Josh (last slide)

The Patriots need a Faulk, Vereen or White type RB who can catch passes out of the backfield. Dinking and dunking is not a bad thing. These long developing pass plays increase the likelihood of bad plays/injuries.
Do they have a QB who will throw those passes? Or is he too worried about being labeled Checkdown Charlie?

You mean, he isn’t trying to kick opposing defenders in the balls, right?

Specifically with respect to Maye, they want him to be "aggressive but not reckless."

Seriously, though, it's impressive that seemingly no one in the league has anything negative to say about him.

Eh, that's just complimentary speak. What I like is they say, "He's a good guy," not, "he seems like a good guy."

That's the difference between acknowledgment and respect.

Tellin ya, in 7 rings I will be SOLD on this guy

Hopefully this game can be a teaching moment for him. It was also a stuck reminder for me the difference between Brady and Manning. Manning wanted to finish you on every snap. That is Drake’s mentality at this moment. Brady was more of killing you with paper cuts and knew instinctively situational football. I hope he learns from this. At 1:10 in first half, score 21-7 and about to go into the half and that happens is not acceptable. He needs situational football coached into him. Check down Charlies are ok and have won championships. So is throwing into the dirt. Near a receiver that is.

It's so ironic. Maye is 23 and he actually learns from his mistakes, whereas the people who **** all over him in the GDT are considerably older and never learn from theirs. I sure hope Ian installs that quitter bell, it will get worn out.

Drake has been better than any of us could imagine but he's also going to arrive on IR if he doesn't stop taking these needless kill shots, it's every week he's taking 2/3 brutal hits over a yard or two that ultimately doesn't matter.

Save putting your body on the line like that for the end of the 4th Q in a tight game when it's win or lose, every play doesn't need to be all or nothing with your body.

Every QB is going to take shots in the pocket it's when he's running like yesterday he could of skipped out of bounds 2-3 yards before and not taken a hit instead he got greedy and got blown up.

Playing against these Tough Defenses gives Maye more experience in what to expect from certain fronts. He gashed that Bucs D many times: on the Int I know he was going for the kill: but we can't be that close and come away with nothing. The DB made a gray play all things considered: that would have probably been a TD eight out of ten times.

The DB stumbled just as Maye was throwing, I'm not sure he ever saw him.

Yeah I thought he should have thrown it away about four seconds after the snap. Nothing was there.

Is he willing but does not know how to throw screens. Or knows how but refuses too? Regardless, a checkdown is not a bad thing.
