Josh: teams are stupid...someone will offer him a HC job eventually but I don't think he will be interested because A) the wife will say no B) he is content in MA and as OC C) Both A and B

I think part of the deal with Vrabel was that he would stay put for a while.

Luck is a big part of nfl success. If you find yourself as one of the best teams any given year, regardless of past expectations or anything else, you should try and improve and catch that lightning in a bottle. This takes into account strength of rest of nfl too

Maybe we won’t be close to SB contending, maybe we’ll be just a couple players away. None of us know, but when you’re in a position as one of the best teams past the halfway mark, you MUST go for it

We’ve seen too many years when we expected great things but fell short, the opposite also happens at times

It's hilarious that the same people who said they would suck this year are now trying to criticize them for not going " all in" to win a Lombardi this year. They are total frauds.
Like who? Who are the total frauds?

“The Patriots stink they will be lucky to win 5 games”
The patriots are 7-2.
“I was wrrrrrr, I was wrrrrr, 7-2 is phony because the schedule and they know it and knotty can’t win. They will be lucky to get to 9 wins”
It’s fine though, once we make the playoffs, we will have one less mosquito

There are no names. Maybe one. It is always the same, guys telling at the clouds.

Read the first 10 pages of the Pats-Panthers GDT if you want names.

I see people say that this team will get rolled in the playoffs, but I am not so sure. All of the "top notch teams" have showed they can be vulnerable, as have we. I do not think this team has shown an A+ game yet and they have improved in aspects almost every week. This is still a young-ish team in terms of the Offensive and defensive systems. They are still growing, maybe they do get bounced in round 1 of the playoffs and that is alright.

I do not look at the inactivity at the trade deadline as saying we aren't ready. I see it as we need to build on young cheap core of players(Draft) to strengthen the depth and a few key positions. Hiring Mercs at the trade deadline to try and win the SB rarely works.

You can tell the posters who predicted the Pats would suck this year by reading the GDT 4 weeks into the year? You might not have read the post I replied to.

Yeah, they haven't changed their tune.

Couldn't disagree more. To " go for it" you have to give up valuable resources that allow you to improve the team and build a consistent winner and real contender year in and year out, and that's how you win multiple Lombardi's. Blowing your resources to try and catch lightning in a bottle is a terrible way to run an organization.

Trying to recall, and I could look it up for sure, but did the Commanders go all in last year?

Would anyone like to emulate the Commanders?

I read or heard somewhere that the Pats were unimpressed with the Commanders in their joint practice. They looked old and slow, and the Pats decided they didn’t want to go that route.

I saw the same discussion. It was basically about team building, and they were looking at how many home grown players the best teams had in relation to how many the bad teams had, and the Commanders were used as an example of what can happen when a team goes all in. Apparently the Commanders traded a number of picks for veterans, which significantly impacts your salary cap, and ages your team. More home grown players also leaves the most money to supplement your team in free agency because you have more players on rookie contracts. And your right that the Patriots saw an old slow Commanders team this summer, and doesn't want to follow that path in building their team. So, in short, the conclusion is to draft well and develop your players if you want long term success, and that's the path Vrabel and Co. have chosen. It requires more patience, and good decisions, but it's the best route to contending consistently, and that's how you win multiple Super Bowls. And anyone who doesn't believe that can go look at the teams who win multiple Super Bowls, and how often they were in the final 8 or final four during those years. If your goal is to win one Super Bowl and be content with that then you can take a long shot in betting it all on one good season, but if you want to win multiple Lombardi's you need to be a consistent contender, and that's the program Vrabel is trying to build.

Many teams would like to emulate going from 4-13 to 12-5 and 2 playoff wins.

I’m not sure that’s right. The skins added draft choice in 2024. The had 3 2s, 2 3s and 2 5s (no 4 or 6)
They signed a lot of free agents because they had a lot of cap but I don’t see overpaying for aging veterans to go all in.
I think they had a typical off season and the only inference to “going all in” came after the results in hindsight.

you mean by getting your QB getting injured in his 2nd year?

I think that WAS did very well in free agency before drafting one of the top 3 QB's. Our management did NOT have a better strategy.

Perhaps you think it wrong for WAS to try for the playoffs?
