Don't forget that early in this season that a lot of people wanted to bench Pop Douglas for Efton Chism because Douglas was lost in the offense. And Douglas is a three year veteran. It took him time to get a feel for the offense and get on the same page with Maye.

Now Williams is at a disadvantage because up until this week, he had limited practice reps with Maye and didn't have McDaniels work on a game plan that was designed to utilize him like he does with the starters.

This could be what Williams needs to get on the same page with Maye.

Last year, they tried to make Polk a starter. He worked with the first team and Maye. I would argue the Pats misused him trying to make him an X WR when he was better suited to be a Z possession WR, but he was in a far different situation than Williams.

Williams could fail with this opportunity while Boutte is out. But the guy has some physical tools that no other receiver on the roster has. He has a second gear that Boutte doesn't have. In theory, he should be the perfect WR for Maye and his ability to throw the deep ball.

I mean it has to at least be considered if Williams can't look a little better during Boutte's likely absence.

He's looked awful, (I hate saying it), sort of Polk like so far.

I pray this thread will be laughed at and age poorly, but all the stuff we said last year about how it's tough to come back from a horrible rookie season are true of a 3rd rounder too.

In addition, Williams is benefitting from playing with a league MVP candidate, who frankly has elevated the receiver group.

If what we read about Polk's performance last year, and the chances of success after horrible rookie years, this seems like close to make or break with Williams to show at least some promise.

I don't believe Kyle Williams is a draft bust by any means. I just believe that maybe his ascension and development maybe is taking longer than may have expected.

However he's been out there.. it's not like he's been inactive this season. What needs to happen is that one 25- 30 yaed completion between he and Drake. That will I believe change things and permeates some confidence. He aside from Boutte is the teams really only deep threat outside the numbers.

They are just not designing plays where he's in the first couple reads. He has 6 targets total.
I do think he needs to attend the Drake Maye offseason wr/qb workouts so they can be on the same page.

Many plays he's just asked to run deep to clear out a CB or safety for someone else underneath to get the ball.

He does show good release, shows some inconsistent route running, and is not on same page with Drake on some of the decision tree options at top of routes.
Josh could design plays to give him better opportunities to have success and get some confidence.

My biggest concern is his hands and have not had enough chances to see if that's an issue or not.

Interesting points. Polk was drafted into a chaotic situation with the organization. As we all knew of.. then getting hurt didn't help him at all.

Williams your right hasn't caught a pass in a game in 2 months.. with his abilities it's odd. I'm thinking maybe Josh should give him some end-arounds, slants.. Just something to het himself going.. getting into the game and becoming a factor..

He has that element outside the numbers that you want and need as an offense. Noticed how different the offense was when Boutte went out.? If K. Williams can start connecting with Drake it only takes the offense to another level.

I think it's far easier to get your footing with 10-12 snaps a game on a team with success all around you and an MVP candidate QB, than with one of the worst QB's in the league and a horrible team looking for you to be an answer as a rookie.

Nah, Williams probably gets most of his reps with Josh Dobbs not Maye. This offense is tough to grasp as it is.

Kyle Williams checks most of the boxes except for height. I thought he would be translating to the NFL some it's been disappointing. Vrabel said he's learning a lot of things we'll just have to hope he starts processing them.

Kyle Williams been playing over 17 snaps game; same as Pop Douglas but without the production. After Boutte's injury his snaps ramped up in the thirties last week. Hopefully he learned a lot from last week and start getting some targets. Really counting on McDaniels to help get him going.
