Let's just say that Cowboys' players get away with a LOT because of Jerruh. I know several officers in the area and Pickens is one of a few who they've had run ins with..
Doesn't surprise me in the least.
Again, the talent is undeniable, but so is the baggage.

Maybe, but the player can't stop the fifth year option. It's a team's option. After that, there's the franchise tag. I don't think it will come to that, and the team will negotiate in good faith. But Lazar was saying he doesn't think his extension goes into effect until after the fifth year option is exercised and taken into account for the extension after that.

I don't understand his reasoning at all unless he knows the agent is an a-hole,

This is all known going in. The contract can/should be negotiated with this information in consideration.

The idea would be to build from what we know can happen, and make a deal that works for both sides.

Why would he think that would be a problem?

Are we using ‘husband’ as a verb on this forum ? Urge to yell “WITCH !!! Kill the intellectuals !” rising….
Or you could just buy a dictionary. It's arranged alphabetically. Ask Mom.

I am firmly against Jeudy, very firmly.
I agree with regard to Jeudy and with regard to not trading for a top WR.

That being said, we rely on our 3 WRs (Diggs, Boutte and Hollins) along with our TE's Henry and Hooper. We are getting very little from our backups: Douglas, Williams and Chism (only a STer at the moment). I suppose that they are OK depth, but they have not shown that they are more than that. Of course, that's OK for our 4th and 5th WR as long as no one is injured.

Yea that production with the ball in his hands is replaceable, but what he does without the ball is not a dime a dozen. Not to say it can't be replaced but is a different skill and not so easily found.
When I set his blocking skills, which are significant, against his years-long deficiencies as a "lead back," it does not add up. In a workhorse back you need, consistency, reliability on first down, reliability in short yardage situations (our redzone O blows: an unreliable back is a factor in this), and guy who does not fumble. Rham is none of these. His performance as a running back is not up to standard and is certainly not commensurate with his salary. I doubt any of this escapes the HC or GM's notice, and I would bet he is not on the team in a year, thankfully.

Pettus hasn't missed a game this year. The problem has been that he's been used primarily on Special teams. He's taken only 30 snaps on Defense.
I don't see Pettus being one of our best STer being a problem.

Pettus is what he is: an emergency #4 safety.

Fair points and I don't disagree with you. Drake Maye is more important than any RB, so I would be hesitant to get rid of Mondre until they feel like a replacement can give us similar blocking ability. Maybe Hendo turns into that guy.

Just out of curiosity, what makes you think they are not Championship caliber this year?
Very good question.

Related question, have we yet seen the best football this team is capable of playing?

I don’t think so.

People who understand the cap will need to tell me if this is true or not, but Lazar said that the Pats are unlikely to extend Gonzo until they kick in his fifth year option. That's the benefit of the fifth year option for first round picks. Why extend him before they get the benefit of that?
Or they can use the existence of that option to determine the terms they negotiate when they extend earlier. NBD.

the same is probably true of KC and IND.

There are 11 QBs already making more than 50M/yr. Dak is on top at 60M/yr. Drake could be the first to hit 70M/yr.
Obviously I don’t know the dude but he doesn’t come off as someone who will try to milk every penny. He seems the opposite, leave a little on the bone to help the team. Just a gut feeling about him.

Overthinking it.

Just write the option terms into terms of the contract when you negotiate the extension.

Hard to imagine Drake being any better, he's playing out of his mind, he's on a rare run right now.
Running game has been better lately, but still much room for improvement.
D has been good, but there's room for improvement, especially early in games.
I think we are contenders right now. Adding a stud outside rusher would only strengthen my belief.

and he wouldn't have claimed Sauders or signed Grant.
Which has more chances of winning, one lottery ticket, or three?

Besides, if Pettus replaces Dugger now who replaces Pettus if he gets hurt next week? Duh.

Have to always keep stocking the pipeline.

Yes, the first five years of the rookie contract is the beginning price for negotiations. The player certainly won't accept less. The team's terms for the 5th year shouldn't be more other than the signing bonus. IT IS an extension.

Right. It was brought up in support of the argument that the big numbers for Gonzalez might not be in this off season.
