NFL Trade Deadline Discourse

I think if Pettus could do it, Vrabel would have had no problems sitting Dugger.
My gut tells me that Vrabel thought Dugger and Pettus were close, but Dugger was on a big guaranteed salary. If he sent Dugger to the doldrums of game day inactives, no team would have wanted to trade for him. He took a slight risk and played Dugger as his third, sometimes second, safety a few weeks to say "hey, look, this guy can play a little, if anyone wants him" in the hopes that somebody will bite and trade for him, send a pick and give them a little bit of cap relief. Ultimately it worked out, I guess, although in the end it's converting a 7th to a 6th and maybe a couple million in cap relief (I don't know if we got the terms) so hard to say if it was "worth it". I'd guess Vrabel hoped for more but took what he could get.

The fact that Drake is on his rookie deal cannot be stressed enough. Time to make some moves is now and in the next two years.
We have sooo many rookies and enough young talent so we can add 2 or 3 starting-type players who could make us a contender for the SB and remain within the cap. I think Gonzo is the only one currently on the team that will get a big payday in the offseason.
Yes we've been healthy (fingers crossed) and lack depth but passing on this opportunity would be a mistake. I'm not saying force a trade or overpay for someone like T. Hendrickson but additions are necessary for a SB run.
People brought up Alex Wright and I would love this pick up. We need an edge guy for sure. Even maybe someone like a Zaven Collins, who's been out of place, but would be a better fit here.

People who understand the cap will need to tell me if this is true or not, but Lazar said that the Pats are unlikely to extend Gonzo until they kick in his fifth year option. That's the benefit of the fifth year option for first round picks. Why extend him before they get the benefit of that?

I want the team to husband its resources with respect both to draft picks and cap space. They might find an upgrade for 3.4 yds/carry, fumble-prone Rhamondre. I mean that level of RB are a dime-a-dozen, right?
Yea that production with the ball in his hands is replaceable, but what he does without the ball is not a dime a dozen. Not to say it can't be replaced but is a different skill and not so easily found.

They pull a Micah Parsons and demand a trade and refuse to sign an extension with you

Maybe, but the player can't stop the fifth year option. It's a team's option. After that, there's the franchise tag. I don't think it will come to that, and the team will negotiate in good faith. But Lazar was saying he doesn't think his extension goes into effect until after the fifth year option is exercised and taken into account for the extension after that.

Don't get me started on that. We should have Drafted him the First place: but thought T Thornton was better.
Pickens is as big of a head case as Antonio Brown. NO THANKS! I'm ELATED that Vrabel chose not to bring that circus to Foxboro.

Agree...as did Randy Moss. They can't all be choir boys. I can't imagine Vrabel letting Pickens be a problem in the locker room....would never happen.

Vrabel already made the choice to not let Pickens be a problem. By not brining him here to begin with.

Maybe I'm wrong but I feel like Pettus can do it but he was being kept off the game day active roster by Dugger. I guess we'll see. There's probably still an upgrade out there.
Pettus hasn't missed a game this year. The problem has been that he's been used primarily on Special teams. He's taken only 30 snaps on Defense.

Anyone else think that Mapu watched White and Dugger go out the door and think that he's next?
No.

I think that Mapu has the skill set that Vrabel looks for from LBs and is learning the position. He's been a regular on special teams but also seen defensive snaps.. I think that Dugger being gone will actually put Mapu on the field more.

Drake may end up being the 1st $50M $75/yr QB..

Edited to note that I was off on what QBs are making now. Thought they were only at the $40M/yr.

He's been pretty much a choir boy in Dallas making Highlight reel catches. Pickens is #3 in the NFL in WR yards but who's counting.

Yeah.. Except he hasn't.. But you keep telling yourself whatever you need to...

You don't live in the area. I do. Pickens ain't a choir boy at all.

Every time he gets tackled or has any type of contact he looks like he's going to blow-up. He's a ticking time bomb in my opinion. He's very immature and a complete hot head, trouble is coming his way.

Yeah. I'm very happy with who we have and we don't need more WR's during the 2025 season. I usually don't play the "what might have been game"....so I've moved on.

Let's just say that Cowboys' players get away with a LOT because of Jerruh. I know several officers in the area and Pickens is one of a few who they've had run ins with..
