OT: Josh Simmons steal of draft

I don’t think Sam should leave, either. I wish he could be as excited by this year’s Pats as I am, but positivity can be hard for some people. But leaving isn’t going to help.
He made a bet are you saying he should Welch?
There is a difference between negativity and doom and gloom. Everything that happens Sam posts the anti-Patriot slant. Look at this thread, before Simmons played a game Sam decried we picked the wrong guy. I have no issue criticizing things that happen, but to criticize by prediction of what you think will happen with nothing to back it up, just brings down the board.

No, I just didn’t think he should have taken the bet in the first place. There are people who post that drive me nuts, but I just ignore them. And if I can’t ignore them, I mute them while I hope that they come around. But maybe that’s just me.

The irony of people complaining about Sam are mostly the same posters that had built in excuses as to why the Pats were still years away and how dare anyone think they could possibly make the playoffs this season.

The rebuttals I heard all off-season:

"Their roster is among the worst in the league". That's false and it's by far the best in the division already.
"There's no way they beat Buffalo". They just beat them at their house.
"The AFC is stacked". That's funny. It's by far the worst we've ever seen.
"Drake Maye needs more time. Remember Josh Allen?" I'm not sure which NFL you've been watching lately, but QB's have been plug and play if they are any good for the last 20 years. Josh Allen won 10 games in year 2 and made the playoffs.
"There's no way they win more than 6 games". They already have 4 in 6 weeks and actually should be 5 (Pittsburgh).

It's still a long season, but the red carpet is laid out for the Pats to make the playoffs. There's 7 teams that make the playoffs in the AFC which is almost half the league. Posters really think there's almost half the AFC better than this current Pats team right now? Currently, the Pats only play 3 teams with a .500 or better record with 2 of them at home. Baring major injuries, it would be a complete shock if the Pats didn't win at least 9 games and make the playoffs.

These people are suspiciously quiet now, or in outright denial they ever held these positions.

In short, it doesn’t take years to build a football program when you have already cleared the cap space deck and have all your draft picks.

It takes a long time for poorly run franchises, so many people think that’s the norm.

This has 2001 vibes all over again. The AFC had been transitioning since Elway left the Broncos. The Patriots were the front runner to take over, but we already know the story. Jacksonville was also right there and should've been the team in 1999, but they couldn't beat Tennessee. 2000 was trash which led them to 2001. Pats had a last place schedule beating up on 10 teams under .500. Oakland was the front runner for the #2 seed, but collapsed at the end.

Do we really think Daniel Jones and the Colts are going to sustain what they are currently doing? It's possible like the 2008 Titans and the 1998 Falcons nobody took seriously. Pittsburgh is going to slip. Jax as well. Chargers are hanging on for dear life and had no business beating the Dolphins.

Oh and here's a trip down memory lane. My comments are aging very nicely right now. Lots of poster have explaining to do.

Yeah, I kinda don't care about the doom and gloomers. They're here. They were here during the Brady years too. Some of you might not have been around long enough to remember "I DON'T CARE! I CAN'T STAND IT" during a year in which we wound up winning the Super Bowl. Or when people were calling Moss a "dog faker".

It's kind of amusing more than anything. They're harmless. The team doesn't care what they have to say, and I don't either.

It's interesting to see that perspective and I wouldn't want to live like that, but if that's what satisfies them? Fair enough...

I had the Pats at 10-7 this year and maybe even I was a little too pessimistic. Let's see what happens.

I think you mean the people defending Sam

He made a bet are you saying he should Welch?

No, Welshing and bald face lying are Triumph's gigs. Sam may be the love child of Negative Ned & Debbie Downer but unlike the aforementioned, I don't believe Sam has given anyone cause to doubt his honor. Welshing is right down there with woman & child beating on the scum scale, I don't think a straight up guy like @mike_usagisan would advocate any such thing. I have no doubt when, not if but when, you win the bet he would join me in acknowledging your magnanimity if you chose to let Sam off the hook but I don't believe he would ever condone Welshing

I don't want anyone to quit, either. Just try to enjoy the team.

I don't know what "Reaction Score" means, but I assume it's the number of quotes/replies you receive to your messages?
If so, Sam's messages create reaction, and that's what a sports forum is all about.
Sure those reactions might me something like "are you sniffing glue", but they are reactions just the same.

I was right there with you. After the draft and free agency I placed a bet the Pats will win the AFC and make the Super Bowl…. the payoff is substantial. They did the work in the offseason, I believed.

Stay healthy, keep improving… they can be as good as they want to be.

I think there are clearly many of us who would join in such praise. Doesn’t even have to wait. Could adjust the terms now, to avoid the risk that Sam cancels his account too quickly to see and benefit from your magnanimity.

I appreciate you, my fellow non-memory-holer.

Of course, that's what they say about Felger.

First off, my bet wasn't with a punk know it all like you.

Secondly, I contacted the person that I bet with and let him know that once the facts are all out and If I lost fair and square, that he would receive the money wagered plus interest. But, you are certainly welcome to come collect cash for your skate board buddy at any time.

If you're man enough.

The Jets when they make QB Fernando Mendoza of Indiana the first pick? And hire a HC who has a clue? Does this apply to them, too?

Mendozza is the real deal.

Big, tough and cool under pressure,

Says the special-needs case whose highest calling is doing menial chores on his sister's farm. What a laugh.

While I generally agree with you, there's an attitude here that doesn't reflect certain realities we're seeing in today's NFL. I'm talking specifically of Mac, Baker, Danny and Sam and the fact that once they wound up on healthier organizations, they began to thrive.

Not every QB is plug and play. And it is entirely possible for very good quarterbacks to be destroyed by incompetent organizations who thinl all they have to do is draft an elite QB and they magically start winning.

Bottom line, QB can bust out for reasons beyond their control. Especially in bad organizations where the ownership has no desire or competence to properly support them.

The Colts, the Jets, the Dolphins, the Titans, all being repeat offenders in this sense, and far from the only examples. And we have blood on our own hands with Mac Jones who was clearly better than we let him be when he was here and managed to fix himself once he left and revert to the high-floor quarterback we thought he was in the draft.
