2026 Draft: LT

3 games in to the season, my thoughts on Will Campbell:

1. He is a damn good football player and leader, and should be a 10 year starter on the OL.

2. He is a big improvement at LT, and should mature into a reasonably capable starter.

3. That said, he has some limitations at LT, and it is not clear that is his best position.

So if someone like Caleb Lomu is BPA when the Pats pick, do you consider kicking Campbell inside to LG or over to RT?

Lomu has great footwork and mirroring ability. He is more of a classic LT than Campbell, though not as functionally strong.
Well, you could get rid of Bradbury and slide Wilson over. RG needs a fix and not just because of salary, he was poor in the 1st half and wasn't much better in the 2nd half. Moses was fine/clean in the 1st half yesterday but like Campbell and Wilson, eventually got overwhelmed with the blitz packages from the Steelers.

I was, by and large, a Campbell booster during the draft process but was aware of his limitations. I said at the time he's more a Matt Light level LT and I stick with that. He probably won't be a great as a pass pro guy but I do think he's better than functional and I'm fine with that. Until he proves otherwise, I think our resources are better spent elsewhere. My one concern with Lomu is that he's a little undersized at 295lbs and I'm not sure how well he transitions to RT. It's not a knock on Lomu, but he isn't on my board currently just because I don't see the need. Sure, if he drops to our pick in round 2 I'd consider him but our first round pick could be better spent elsewhere.

That was what I saw. It was the first time he was really put under pressure and played like a rookie. However, it wasn't a disastrous performance either. So long as he continues to show improvement, I'm comfortable with him at LT. I also thought part of the problem was that the receivers weren't getting open quickly causing Maye to hold on to the ball too long. That was what prompted my post about Boutte yesterday. We just don't have that alpha receiver that Maye can rely on to be open or to just go get the ball in contested situations. Fix that, and Campbell will be fine.

The turnovers shaped yesterday's game. But for the sake of week in, week out play design, yes, they really do need a pressure-the-safety, Mike Evans type.

The rookies will get better, but 3/5 of the OL eventually needs to be upgraded. More disappointed in Bradbury-Onwenu-Moses than in Campbell-Wilson.

There is some flexibility with Campbell and Wilson. I want to get another long term starter out of the 2026 draft (at least), but because of Campbell and Wilson's flexibility that player could conceivably beat any of the 5 OT positions.

I am all about looking for more tackles.

Campbell looks good, but in the off chance you can land an elite tackle, go for it. Move Campbell inside, move the hypothetical draft pick to the right, whatever. Let's make the team better.

Just move him inside is an easier said than done type of thing. I really do not think it would be a smooth transition. He likes to play in a 2 point stance as he did at LSU. I am not convinced that he could be as effective vs DTs coming out of a 3 point stance. In the predraft process "experts" made it seem like it was not a big deal, but a bull rush from a DT is much different than a bull rush from an edge.

Campbell plays tall and that is not what you want in a OG. He has the movement ability and good play strength, so maybe he could do it but I do not think its a foregone conclusion.

I think the LTs this year are worse than last years group. The two with the most upside, Lomu and World, have some issues still and aren't yet at the Campbell/Banks/Simmons level. More Conerly and Ersery right now.

2027's group has early signs of being pretty stellar though.

I think Austin Barber might be falling down boards. Also, it's hard to turn my back on Cashius Howell despite his short arms.

That did not seem unreasonable to me when it was posted. How far we have come in 6 short weeks.
I know that Campbell's pass blocking has been great, exceeding expectations in my opinion, but Campbell at LG and a beast at LT would be amazing for years to come.

Having said that, Onwenu looked awful this week. Against high end talent, Onwenu is limited in his ability to move side to side. Maybe we need a new RG and RT.

I've been focused on the right side for a while.

Add some more athletic and mobile guys, and depth behind an aging Mirgan Moses.

In over 2,000 career snaps, Boise State LT Kage Casey has only been penalised once, for an unsportsmanlike. He has never been flagged for holding or a false start. Impressive.

We need a tackle who is good in the running game. When has Boise St. ever been able to run the football?

For the first time in program history, two Boise State Broncos earned Walter Camp All-America honors, as the organization placed running back Ashton Jeanty on the first team and offensive lineman Kage Casey on the second team. They are the first Bronco offensive players to garner recognition since current co-offensive coordinator Nate Potter, who was a Consensus All-American as an offensive lineman in 2011.

Jeanty was the nation's top running back this season, leading the country in attempts (344) and yards (2,497) while tying for the lead in touchdowns (29). He set College Football Playoff-era records for yards after contact (1,889) and missed tackles forced (143). He eclipsed 200 rushing yards in six different games, tying Rashaad Penny (San Diego State, 2017) for the most in a season since at least 2000.

Jeanty set Boise State career rushing records for yards (4,665), 200-yard games (8) and 100-yard games (21). His season averages of 7.3 rushing yards per carry, 192.1 rushing yards per game and 201.0 all-purpose yards per game are currently school
records, as are his career rushing averages of 6.5 yards per carry and 119.6 yards per game.

A key component of Jeanty's success was the play of Casey. The redshirt sophomore has a Pro Football Focus overall grade of 87.2, second-highest among FBS left tackles who played at least 600 snaps. He played a team-high 867 offensive snaps white allowing zero sacks and one quarterback hit.

As a unit, Boise State ranked fourth in the country in scoring offense (39.1 ppg), sixth in rushing offense (250.5 ypg), sixth in total offense (470.2 ypg) and ninth in 3rd down conversion rate (49.4%). The Broncos allowed 0.92 sacks per game, 10th-fewest in the nation.

This is the second-consecutive year Jeanty and Casey have secured All-America honors. Last season, Jeanty was recognized by the Action Network, Associated Press, CBS Sports, College Football Network, ESPN and USA Today. Casey was named Freshman All-America by The Athletic.
