The Bill megathread (HC at UNC, girlfriend, etc.)

I don't trust either if they were to leave the nest again. Both of them haven't been successful on their own as a coordinator without Reid or HC.
Yet Bill flopped as HC of CLE then became DC here and at NYJ then went on to GOAT status, so IMO you never know.

Problem is that these days a lot of NFL teams look for the next 'boy genius' so these guys might not get another bite of the apple.

Their best post-Reid opportunity might more like Sean McVay needing a greybeard that knows football to help launch their program.

It's obvious to me that Bill has made UNC such a ****show because he's being hired by Woody Johnson in January and wants to familiarize himself with how the Jets operate. This is 4D chess.

He was 68 when Brady left. It's old, but we didn't think he lost his fastball in coaching until after Brady left. Andy Reid is 67 now. Pete Carroll is chomping that gum at 74 years old.

Did you mean "couldn't win without generational talent?" This was why Phil only coached star players and didn't have time for rebuilds. He never liked rookies either. I think Bill was over it after realizing he had a massive rebuild on his hands.

The reason for the "friends and family" later on was because his well ran dry. Look at coaching staff in the early 2000's and it's astonishing. It was loaded. The coaching staff may not have been a problem if the talent were better.
Pops had 6 losing seasons his final 6 years of coaching and had a generational talent in Wemby his final 2 seasons and still couldn't win.

Point being the age of the coach matters and while yes Pete Carroll is 74 he is also 1-4 and the Raiders look terrible so that only adds to the point.

Never stop fabricating. You write you're own stories facts be damned.
I'm fully convinced you are living in an alternate reality where Belichick has taken UNC to a 5-0 start and everybody is cheering his greatness and somehow your internet has crossed into here where Belichick had become a clown being led around by a 24 year old and had become a giant laughing stock in the NCAA

I didn't realize Pops had Wembly. After Leonard, things went downhill for him.

I have no idea why Carroll chose LV. That's a terrible team at his age.

In fairness you can't really count Cleveland's final season in Cleveland against Belichick. Word was already spreading that Model would stab Cleveland fandom in the balls an move the team to Baltimore by October or so and that seemed to coincide with their implosion. I don't think Belichick really wanted to be the coach that helped the team move to Baltimore either so I think he and most of the team had checked out after the first few games of the season when they knew what was coming.

That gives him a mediocre record overall and brought the team to the playoffs by 1994 so not awful but I'm sure he'd be the first to admit he learned a lot and made a lot of mistakes in Cleveland.

Yeah that's how I see it too. In many ways he was not ready for prime time as an NFL head coach back then. Kind of like how Pete wasn't ready either here in NE in different ways.

These questions being asked are inevitable.

I said before, this thread wouldn't have lasted more than 15 or so pages if he just conceded that his record without Brady was very bad
SBB's biggest defense of Bill is that we're "haters." Ask yourself a simple question: does that sound like something a dude would post? I don't know a single guy that would ever talk like that. It does seem like something an airheaded 24-year-old former cheerleader would endlessly post. UGAPatsFan is definitely on to something. Hi Bunny!

edited to add: I'm not a hater, I'm a laugher. Bill's excellent adventure down in Chapel Hill is laugh out loud funny.

100% it's Bunny. There's no other explanation. Not sure how she has time to troll here when she has to pull Bill around on a leash all day in her hooker outfit.

Or and hear me out for a minute maybe there's just a lot of haters!

And besides my biggest defense is the 8 rings.

That's right where I was going. BB is an example of a guy who had a HC gig then took some coordinator gigs and used the time and the opportunity to analyze what he did wrong, what he could do better next time, etc. No reason to think the assistants at KC probably have aren't also analyzing and learning a lot right now. To me the difference is that in the current NFL the coaches that get hired are mostly young up-and-rising coordinators or super-experienced veteran coaches. It's really hard IMO to get a gig as a one-and-done former HC in the current NFL, like the opportunity Kraft gave BB 25 years ago.

Dare we add Josh to this discussion? :-(

It’s actually possible that the Rats hire BB and he gets the all time wins record.

It will take a desperate team to do that.

Ok, I'm pretty convinced at this point that if you were OJ Simpson's lawyer, you would have simply held up a picture of him receiving his Heisman Trophy and said "I rest my case."

You don't think 8 rings is a lot of rings?

UNC: We are committed to Bill Belichick (until we are no longer committed).

Florio's take (at the end of this long video) similarly is that the short public statement is just posturing.

One point Marcus Simmons brings up is despite the lack of talent that Bill and Fat Mike brought to UNC you would think the GOAT coach could cook up some sort of scheme advantage to show some glimmer of success, but, nope, it's not there.
