The Bill megathread (HC at UNC, girlfriend, etc.)

Belichick doesnt have the drive to be great anymore. Its why a lot of HoF HCs quit on top.

To me it's a big indicator of lack of self awareness, or in football jargon, poor self-scouting.

At various points in one's life, one has to do that self-scouting and figure out if what you're doing meets your own standards and those of others.

If not, the answer is obvious for a guy who Google suggests is worth over $70M, you quit and do something better with your time.

If you still want to coach, do what most 73 year olds do with their time, volunteer. That takes the money and most of the pressure out of the equation.

What you don't do is look at the last two years in New England and decide it was good then make more of the same mistakes at your next gig such as asking for a ton of money, hiring cronies and relatives, making yourself inaccessible, not communicating, etc.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Bubba is going down at the same time Bill does. Can't see how he saves his own job after this disaster.

Bubba was already out. UNC is going full NASCAR in 2026. Also, Bill wasn't Bubba's choice.

The classic vote of confidence for a coach in October after game 5 of his tenure.

Nope nothing to see here folks.

Yep, and that's how Bill's Team demonstrates those claims of poor communications are fake news, by issuing a one-sentence statement.

Narrative busted!

Phil was 52 years old when that happened.

Belichick is an elderly man and no HC has ever been successful even Geeg Popovich couldn't win with a generational talent.
He was 68 when Brady left. It's old, but we didn't think he lost his fastball in coaching until after Brady left. Andy Reid is 67 now. Pete Carroll is chomping that gum at 74 years old.
SBB is just delusional in his man love for Belichick. Belichick doesnt have the drive to be great anymore. Its why a lot of HoF HCs quit on top.

Did you mean "couldn't win without generational talent?" This was why Phil only coached star players and didn't have time for rebuilds. He never liked rookies either. I think Bill was over it after realizing he had a massive rebuild on his hands.
BB may have been given a better team in your scenario but he still would have failed with his insistence on having his friends and family be a part of the coaching staff
The reason for the "friends and family" later on was because his well ran dry. Look at coaching staff in the early 2000's and it's astonishing. It was loaded. The coaching staff may not have been a problem if the talent were better.

Another blog by Jerry Thornton today. Maybe he reads this forum and SBB is the “most shameless Belichick fanboy”.

Never stop fabricating. You write you're own stories facts be damned.

He 100% lost his fastball as a GM much earlier. I'd say 2019/2020 was the last time the team was still defensively playing well and disciplined.

The NFL is not the NBA, coaches don't jump around to find the absolute studs to play with. Jackson himself was a weird scenario where the Bulls all disbanded after a final run and he had the leeway to be the golden ticket somewhere else. Belichick was never getting that in the NFL. No team that was a contender was firing a coach for Belichick to come in. He comes in and changes the system and the culture. It's a totally new team by that point even with similar talent.

Also let's be real, he's the reason he needed to deal with a massive rebuild. He could have just drafted competently from 2015 on and by 2020 he'd have to find a QB but he wouldn't be slowly drowning everywhere else.

Also again, the well ran dry because he got complacent and kept recycling the same people and wanted full control. In 2000 he needed to leverage the best of the best. By the 2010's he wanted his guys who were loyal to him who he was comfortable with and then he found himself without a network. You know who doesn't have that problem? 67 year old Andy Reid. Matt Nagy comes in and moves his way up to OC a within 3 years. A guy who was an assistant back in the late 2000's that honed his craft away from him and he got back. Snags Spagnuolo (a MA guy no less) who worked for him years ago the minute he got Mahomes and realized they needed defensive help. He has no problem finding and hiring big accomplished personalities who succeeded without him to be major presences on his teams

If you come in here gloating over the Patriots losing meaningful games then you aren't a Patriots fan. signbabybill did exactly that.
Never happened fake news. But you certainly hate Bill Belichick like the Jets fan you are.

I wouldn't Josh's his rings to compare him to Bill Walsh or Don Shula. You are happy to make contextless comparisons like that
+1 +1 +1

Josh has 6 rings but there sure ain't nobody mentioning his name when talking about the greatest coaches of all time....

"its fake news 8 ringzzzzzzzzzz

We are lucky the Pats won 3 more titles from 2014-2018. They were carried by the 2010-2012 drafts and unlikely late returns from a converted WR in Edelman in the 2009 draft.

Had Krause been more humble, they win 1-2 more titles and the Lakers maybe reach the finals at best for the 1999-2000 season. Without Phil Jackson, the Lakers were never going to win anything. They were very talented, but extremely entitled, undisciplined and horribly coached. Del Harris was heavily scrutinized by media and fans.

I don't trust either if they were to leave the nest again. Both of them haven't been successful on their own as a coordinator without Reid or HC.

The Chiefs cheerleaders have 3 rings. Therefore they're better than Mike Tomlin who has 2.

You gotta think there is some sort of cause and effect there, no? There's only 32 NFL teams, whereas NCAA has 665 football programs to choose from. If Bill was the GOAT coach and still had his motivation to teach, you would think he'd be getting dozens if not hundreds of high level candidates for any coaching openings he had. Yet if word got out that working for Bill sucks and he's an *******, the only ones willing to put up with him are his kids, his friends kids, and third-teir candidates with few other opportunities.

Yep, a totally different kind of cause and effect.

You make up more crap than George R. R. Martin.

Which one would you rather bang? There you go, you have your answer.
