Agreed. Godwin like Stanley were older players and(injury prone).. we made runs at them but it all worked out were we got a stud in Campbell at LT. At wr Diggs IMO is the better choice although older. Godwin wasn't ever really intending to leave TB he said as much over the offseason on goodmorning football.

We were making a run at guys becuase the roster was just so devoid of talent of course. We have a 11th ranked offense and a solid OL with a young stud LT who if he continues his play could have all pro votes as a rookie by seasons end. Stanley is once again dealing with injury and is a big reason why the Ravens loss last week. I think Godwin is still out no?
I am happy with how things have worked out with our off season and draft. My point is it is easy to say we should have got this guy or that guy but it isn't that simple a lot of factors come in to signing highly recruited players. Godwin is supposed to play this week.

Oh yes of course I definitely agree with your point. As you mentioned factors.. guys thsr are established like Godwin a SB ring, comfortable in TB has his family cemented in the community and is very involved off the field. That matters in a players decision to come here.

Millionaires tax
Terrible traffic
Not the most ideal weather

Also we were coming off back to back 4-13 seasons. Diggs was more humbled by the injury, and not many suitors as expected. He felt a reason to prove himself again.

No doubt. If Diggs wasnt injured and 32 I don't know that he falls in our laps. I am watching now the Bengals and the friction that appears to be brewing with Chase and Coach Taylor. I would imagine their season is not going to get better and as the losses pile up the blame game starts. He is the top paid receiver in the league with that 4 year/161M deal he got earlier this year. I dont see the Bengals letting him go as long as Burrow is on the team. Maybe after he banks all that money we can pry him away, he would only be 29.

You make a good point with chase. A phenomenal player and rubs every route tree there is for a wr to run and a willing blocker. Personally I feel like Burrow may not last long enough to play into his early 30s he's always injured. That OL is horrible. The brown ownership is probably one of the worst and cheapest ownership families in the league.. they paid chase because they knew they had too. Same for Burrow. Taylor is on borrowed time. He may not last the entirety of the season if things really get worse this year. As the season goes on for us I want to see more k. Williams he gives us a element on the outside. I would like him to develop something with Drake.

It’s almost always the WRs that are the malcontents and trouble makers.

Ken, you know better than that.
If a WR is getting open he will get the ball.
If 3/4 of your wr corps is not producing you want me to believe they are doing fine but we just don’t want to throw to them?

If that was the only time Diggs got open all game, yes it would mean that.

Football is about production, not excuses.
You are smarter than that.
Sorry for posting the game clip twice, I tried to clip it and failed.

If there are multiple players getting open on the same play, just one person gets the ball. This is nit picking but the pass over the middle to Diggs, Pop was crossing the other side of the field wide open (probably a TD). In the following clip they play I am referring to is at 25 sec

The throw Maye made to Booty when he rolled to the left, had he set his feet and let it rip it would have allowed Booty to do something (he was wide open). Play at 53 seconds

Maye has commented that he needs to get Diggs the ball and he made a concerted effort to do that despite other players being open. Your comment about if they get open they will get the ball is a very simplistic way to look at it because there are plays that multiple players are open, I assure you that Booty did not only get open once. Pop was open multiple times as well.

I think you are confused about what I am saying.

I’m not saying they are never open I am saying they are not open ENOUGH.

Unless you believe that we are putting those 3 guys out there to make up 2/3 to 3/4 of our WR routes, yet run an offense that makes WRs the 4th and 5th progressions, they would be getting more targets if they were open.

It’s not any different for the Patriots than any other team. We would love to throw the ball to the WRs. They are most often the top progressions. If they weren’t and we getting open all day they would become the top progressions.
This idea that we are the only team in the history of the league that have WRs getting open with ease but refuse to throw them the ball is bizarre.

Maye doesn’t drop back look the field over and choose who he wants to throw to. Thats just not his an NFL passing game works. He doesn’t pick Diggs over Douglas. He runs his progressions and throws to the first one that is open.

Boutte catching 1 pad surely doesn’t mean he was only “open” once but it means he didn’t get open enough. And when he is the primary target, and the play is designed and coordinated for him to get open, he should.

If you think every play we ran was perfect and we could have thrown to any receiver and each of them could have caught 8-10 passes, you should look deeper.

The more money didnt change Chris Godwins mind to leave the Bucs. Metcalf signed with the Steelers for 132 million after his 3 year rook contract for 72 million. I think he wanted to be with a team that looked like they may have a chance at a SB and if not the number would need to be stupid high. Dont get me wrong I dont disagree that he would have been nice to have but we couldnt throw the bank at one player when we have so many needs.
I wouldn't have signed Diggs if we traded for DK and you would have lost the pick that was used to draft Henderson but otherwise you still could have done everything else.

It should also be noted that Metcalf was under contract and you could franchise him the following year if he didn't agree to the contract extension. That gives the Pats two years to sell him on the franchise and Drake Maye. Given what we've seen through 4 games I think we could have won him over. I believe his issue with the team was more a desire to win than taxes or weather. Thats speculation but I don't think it's off base.

That said I also see a new coach and who wants to trade for a malcontent when you have yet to establish your program and culture. Bad timing which is unfortunate because I'm a big fan of DK.

THIS is the right response, if you are unhappy with the lack of WR production. This is perfectly reasonable. Remember P, that the offense we are seeing now is still at the primary school level. Just look at the difference in how it looked from one week to the next. Every week we will watch it open up a bit more. It won't be for a couple of years from now we before we will start to see the entire thing opened up

I'm not saying it isn't legitimate to "complain" about Pop's lack of production or even be concerned. It's just that this "off with his head" attitude at the first sign of a mishap that seems to permeate here, is just over the top, P
I think it takes a bit more than primary school level to have the fifth best passer rating in the league.

You might mean that the scheme is not too complex at the moment. I don't have the chops to dispute that with film analysis, but... we've seen them move the ball up and down the field with ease for 3 straight weeks. They've displayed an exemplary efficiency in the passing game that I don't know would be achievable with a primary school level offense.

Ring,

I have seen you mention Maye going through his progressions, but I am not certain that he and McD are running a pure progression read offense. I lean toward them running a 1/2 field offense based on pre snap looks (kind of a choose a side). So if that is the case he could be making a concerted effort to get the ball to a particular player because he has the confidence that Diggs for instance will be in the right spot.

This post is not trying to call you or anyone out, but rather start a conversation about actual game play rather than a pissing contest about how people are wrong about something or this guy sucks.

You forgot to add that Diggs' ACL is healing more every week and is looking sneaky good - Diggs might surprise everyone in November/December.

Absolutely one.. Diggs actually has more production right now than AJ Brown believe it or not!

I know and Diggs will improve now that Douglas is benched. Imagine Diggs and Chism against a zone defense. Orgasms.
One... you have me fantasizing... will Chism be active this game??

Douglas a whopping 8 snaps last Game: he's really trending here backwards.

You could have commented on orgasms or trending backwards. You chose to talk about trending backwards.

We have game plan offense... each week will be a different guy. Boutte still makes clutch plays.. but the main guy should always be Diggs. He and Drake are developing as special connection.

Diggs isn't somebody who's equipped to handle 75+% at this time. I would rest him on 1st downs if the game is competitive, and use him closer to 67% or lower if I can afford it.

He's the team's leading receiver and is on pace for 80 catches.
He's equipped just fine. Stop hating the good ones.
