Reading discussion after yesterday’s game I thought that the OL coaching this year might be under appreciated. Wonder what others think of it.

Preseason there was lots of concern on this board about the apparent unsettled state of the OL. Campbell was said to be a rookie with T Rex arms that many thought would be forced to convert to guard to have an NFL career. Wilson was a rookie center playing out of place. Bradbury was too old, too slow, questionable durability, and probably over the hill. Onwenu was overpaid, overweight, out of shape, unmotivated, and maybe a cut or trade candidate. Moses was too old, too slow, questionable durability, possibly over the hill. Depth was totally absent. Brown was a JAG and everyone else was worse.

Now we’re four games into the season. Left side of the OL had two rookies play every snap for the first three games, and acquit themselves very well with a total of one sack allowed. Fourth game the rookie LG Wilson was out and backup C/G Ben Brown stepped up to perform excellently. Bradbury has been solid at center, ditto for both Onwenu and Moses on the right side of the line.

To me it looks like Doug Marrone and his staff are doing a much better job coaching the OL than we’ve seen in recent past. Do you all agree, or am I missing something?

Given the inexperience and changing personnel, it is not surprising that the line started slow. The consistent progression since the start of camp is a testament to the coaching.

I think it's been a real bright spot. Replacing a guy like Scar was bound to be tough - huge shoes to fill - but these guys (I don't even know their names!) are doing great so far. The special teams guy seems really good as well. I probably should learn all the names, so I seem like a expert, but life is short, and I am after all an English major who teaches poetry writing at the local college, so lower your expectations accordingly

I'm going to go out on a limb and declare that Doug Marrone >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Adrian Klemm or Scott Peters.

I see Peters is a two time world champion Brazilian Jiu Jitsu grappler. Bringing that knowledge along with Marrone's knowledge seems to be meshing well for coaching up these guys.

If you start from the standpoint of the evaluation of the fellowship of the miserable, coaches will walk on water.

Campbell was a top 4 pick, best LT in the draft.
Wilson was considered by many a great value in the 3rd round with a big future.
Bradbury had started in the NFL every year since being drafted 6 yrars ago
Onwenu has been a good G since arriving here
Moses is a quality vet who has started for many years in this league.

That doesn’t mean the coaching hasn’t ben good, but when you start with a dumb, ignorant assessment of the players of course they will be better than expected

Somehow we have become the only fan base in the NFL who consistently trash out players and think they all suck.

I owe Marone an apology, I was not convinced in his OL coaching ability (he has had a lot of suspect OLs). I didn't think he would have this big of an impact with 2 rooks on the left side, granted they are both talented but still are performing very well.

So Doug Marone, I apologize that you have had ****ty OLs moreso than good OLs and I assumed that trend would continue.

That's quite an apology

Terrific offensive coaching in general with McDaniels at the head, and Marrone obviously doing a great job. Both he and Josh have a great deal of experience as both coordinators and head coaches, and the only concerns I had were how well they’d mesh and how well Josh’s offense would be assimilated. So far I’m very impressed with the progress, and expect that in another month we should be really cranking.

Good coaching impact football players more than any other team sport. The team with the best players doesn't always win in team sports, but it happens more often in the other sports. Superior coaching will almost always beat "better talent" in football or at worst allow the "weaker" team to be there at the end with a chance.

The Pats had 20 years of good OL's with very ordinary talent. Continuity had a lot to do with it and it will have a lot to do with it now. I think we have the physical talent to have an OL that can withstand the attrition of an NFL season. There seem to be a lot of teams dealing with multiple OL injuries early in the season. Eventually we will too. Hopefully the good coaching our kids are getting will allow quality depth to develop like we have seen so far in Brown (who still needs work on his run blocking, but baby steps folks, baby steps)

Yeah, because they're on at least their fifth attempt to do so.

2025: Doug Marrone
2024: Scott Peters
2023: Adrian Klemm
2022: Matt Patricia
2020-2021: Cole Popovich and Carmen Bricillo

Popovich and Brucillo were working well in 2020 and showing a lot of promise. Popovich in particular, who was an understudy to the great Dante.

But McDaniels then pilfered Bricillo when he went to the Raiders. Bricillo is now running the OL with the Giants.

Popovich, who is in charge of the Texans OL currently, refused the Covid bioweapon jab and was unconscionably forced out by the lemming league.

The **** show circus then entered Foxboro at OL until fairly recently.

Maye has helped the OL immensely by making quick deciosns and getting the ball away.

Every so often Maye holds the ball too long and something bad happens.
