There's no forward progress when you voluntarily retreat like he did. Voluntary retreat resets the forward progress point.
Henry, right? Because he got pushed back and the defenders never detached.

I honestly felt like we were in all three games this season so far. I couldn't say that for most of the games last year. I'm not confident that it's all going to come together this year. It might prove to be a 5-12 season. But I feel like we're moving in a better direction than last year. And that's probably enough for me.

I’m pissed about the loss but yes…they are going in the right direction. I’ll take that for now.

Maybe if we throw in a 6th.

Seriously, his contract makes him radioactive.
The contract was a fireable offense and even before he turned into a fumbling machine he was never worthy of being paid.

He's never been anything more than an Blount style hammer maybe not even as good and that's the type of player you'd pay 1.5m a year in todays NFL.

Would anyone else in the league even have guaranteed him 7m i doubt it? We gave him 17 million fully gtd which is completely crazy.

Really I had them off to a Fast Start...2-1 I would feel optimistic: now not so much. I don't think you had them losing these Two games especially @ Home.
Every team loses games they should win and win games they should lose. Maye is a beast. The defense is showing signs of getting it. This team is coming together. If they hadn’t had a once in a generation fumble day, they would have blown Pittsburgh out. The quality of the team is not measured by an anomaly day of turnovers.
They are better than I expected, but the turnover obscured it.

2.5 yac.

Not good enough
He’s not breaking any tackles. Going down fairly easily. It’s only three games but I’m slightly disappointed, thought he would pop pretty quickly.

Turnovers and penalties at alarming rates this year.

Costing us multiple games already.

Kind of to be expected from such a young team with so many moving parts, but today was an inexcusable kind of day.

Still think they have shown potential and will get better. Might happen this year, may not.The defense looks alot better already since halftime in miami and we have gonzo coming back.

That should’ve been defensive holding

Gotta cut down on the Maye Specials they seem to come at the worse possible times.
Maye was the best player on the field today.

Patriots are 9-28 in their last 37 games and we're chalking up games as a cakewalk.

You know Carolina is looking at that game saying it's only the Patriots they suck we have to beat them we just demolished Atlanta by 30.

It's only a 4.5 point spread at home to Carolina, you know who doesn't think it's a lock? the people who do this for a living.
37 games ago is an entirely different team.
Without turnovers they win by 3 TDs today. Turnovers are fluke.
This team is tons better than it was in 2024 or 2023.

Sort of a miracle they even were there with a shot at the end given all the turnovers.
Most of these were caused by straining for extra yardage when it wasn't there. Trying too hard.

The Patriots - and everyone in football, for that matter - could learn from Deion Branch.

Deion was the king of going down when the extra yardage wasn't there, hanging onto, that is protecting the ball, maintaining possession, keeping the drive alive, and living to play another day.

Now, he may have learned this from losing it before, or even in an effort to prevent injury - which, by the way, it DOES.

I saw other plays today when the Patriots did this, straining for extra yardage, and though they occasionally got away with it, it is a fatal habit.

The Patriots made the Super Bowl in 1985 largely because they not only had everyone work on fumble recovery drills all the time, they consciously protected the ball. Why they didn't continue to do this, and why every team in football doesn't do this, is a mystery to me. Belichick used to talk about it a lot, but talking isn't enough. You have to drill it. Practice it. Make a habit of it.

Wanting to alone does not work.

IMHO the head coach has to establish the culture of being a smart team that doesn't beat itself.

Turnovers aren't a fluke, who recovers a fumble could be said to be random so if you put the ball on the ground 15 times and recover 12 of them that's a fluke and won't last.

Stevensons inability to hold onto the ball isn't a fluke it's a fatal flaw in his game that's been on show for a year and a half.

Tons better based on beating the Dolphins? If we go 3-0 against Carolina, New Orleans and Tennessee i'll give you that it's tonnes better and on the way to .500 season and big signs of improvement but we're a loss next week away from this being another top 10 picking season.

A difficult game to watch, but I can't believe the overreaction here.

Drake Maye is showing exactly why he is the guy to lead a franchise. They just need to give him some help.

The defense might have turned a corner.

Stevenson has to go, however. He has always been a fumbler. This is nothing new.

This is like golf. The swing is much better, but the score still isn't improving yet.
