You can only do so many big contracts, I had a feeling this was coming...Jerry just gave 2 monster contracts out...I figured it was coming.
Great Player. O well.
Assuming this injury doesn't hold him back and change anything and Gonzalez goes onto to have another really good year are you locking him up long term to big money or looking to trade him for picks? You don’t trade the house for a player who then also is demanding a top of the market contract.
It’s terrible business practice…. you just paid twice for the same player. Ask the Dolphins how that worked out with the Tyreek trade, then count the Chiefs rings. Dumb.
They can only do so much. Defensive players as individuals can't control the games like a QB can. The Von Miller year in 2015 was a fluke and not sustainable. Had the Pats been healthy that year, they not only would've had the #1 seed, beat easily eliminated Denver. Before that, you had the 2002 Bucs and the 2000 Ravens. That also wasn't sustainable. Because of that, this is why teams should really discriminate who they pay on defense (they don't).What has Hendrikson/ Parsons/ Crosby /Garrett ever WON?
I can tell you, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
Great players, not part of winning teams.
Unfortunately, we're witnessing an era where players are getting paid for one good year (if that) which prices competitive teams out who draft good players. If Gonzo's injury isn't serious and he has another standout season, he's going to command over $30M easy. We are lucky we saw the Pats play in the era they did or else guys like Seymour, Wilfork, Mankins, Gronk, Jones, McCourty and possibly Hightower could've left after their rookie deals. He's going to have to be shutdown if we are going to give him a big contract.
I can’t see the future, but assume Gonzalez is the All Pro we know he is and stays healthy… they don’t have to trade for Gonzo… pay that man.Assuming this injury doesn't hold him back and change anything and Gonzalez goes onto to have another really good year are you locking him up long term to big money or looking to trade him for picks?
But they could possibly get 2 first rounders and then spend that money on several free agents.I can’t see the future, but assume Gonzalez is the All Pro we know he is and stays healthy… they don’t have to trade for Gonzo… pay that man.
You should lock up all the young cornerstone players before Drake needs a massive new deal.
Barmore doesn't stop the run either; and he's an actual Defensive Tackle.
Agreed. The teams taking the right approach with Gonzo and his treatment plan hamstrings are delicate and like Prime time said they are a wr or CBs money maker's. We know what Gonzo is and his long term health is paramount to what we want to do defensively. Even if he's out the first month of the season we don't need to see him until he's able to check all the boxes like Vrabel said.I can’t see the future, but assume Gonzalez is the All Pro we know he is and stays healthy… they don’t have to trade for Gonzo… pay that man.

I honestly believe Vrabel looked at the long term 60 plus million in cap space. Two studs in Gonzo and Drake will see contracts by at least next season presumably. Definitely lock Gonzo up he's such a special type of player at his position there are other good CBs in the league but none of them do it effortlessly like Gonzo does. Vrabel said he wants to get guys to a second contract and the first opportunity to do so will be with your guy Marcus who's a captain. That speaks to how Vrabel sees Marcus Jones long term.Assuming this injury doesn't hold him back and change anything and Gonzalez goes onto to have another really good year are you locking him up long term to big money or looking to trade him for picks?

Oh for sure I understand what you were doing there.. .. I believe Micah and Jerry had a gentlemans agreement.. one of these men probably felt differently afterwards.. and it was no going back from there.. I fully on board with Vrabel's approach no matter how the season shakes out. I think Marcus will be the first opportunity for us to reward a player that's been an all pro from a recent draft.Vrabel loves Marcus.
To be clear I was playing devil's advocate asking about trading Gonzalez. Just seemed like a reverse example for all those who never consider a big trade like Micah just due to draft capital.
I didn’t say don’t pay your own free agents, I said don’t trade for another teams then pay them top of the market. But they could possibly get 2 first rounders and then spend that money on several free agents.
Yeah and I'm asking what's really the difference?I didn’t say don’t pay your own free agents, I said don’t trade for another teams then pay them top of the market.
