Both are treif. Lobster is fine could not be more overrated if it tried. Crab in Asia is way too much work.

I went with lobstah but I do love both. I'm also not a big butter guy I eat mine with no butter. I eat steamers and corn like that too. Everyone thinks I'm weird.
Grew up eating a lot of clams with my dad except we used margarine (mom called it oleo) instead of butter, when we were done he would peel the clams and put them in melted margarine in a styrofoam cup so they could be heated up again.. it was gross, he died young. Now they don't appeal to me..
I eat corn on the cob plain also, even though many think I am weird I like it that way.

I just had to come to Mass and had to get my fried clam fix. Didn’t have time to go to a good place, got them from a bar the were OK.
There is supposed to be a bar in Manchester, NH with exceptional fried clams and they dont ration them out.

A lot of places get a good name and then do the old mound of fries on the bottom with a layer of clams on top. Petey's in North Hampton pulled that when I was there.

I’m with you with the no butter, I also like my lobster or crab in seafood sautés or a fruit to da mare. In the mid 80’s when I was stationed in Alaska we would go to restaurants and the King Crab Legs were longer than one of my arms.
Like on the Deadliest Catch.

Those look like they have lots of meat in them.

No doubt. Fortunately, we Europeans are sophisticated enough to value the quality of the experience.

You're not European, though, you are British. The U.K. separated geographically from continental Europe 450,000 years ago. Any lingering confusion was subsequently put to rest with Brexit in 2016. Hence, "Mike the Brit," not "Mike the European."

Consequently ...

Back in the day (early 80s) you could buy a pound or pound and a half lobster from Captain Hook/James Hook (?) for $2 IIRC. Buy a couple of them and boil them at home with a bottle of wine on the side and you have an inexpensive date night for a poor grad student....

Judging from the poll there must be a lot of high rollers here. I voted for crab -- cheaper, more plentiful and arguably more versatile. Maryland crab cakes are something special.

I don't remember that s hit.
I struggled to get good price Lobsta back then, my girl was pretty shocked when I brought it over after work (I was pretty poor by today's standards).
I did my best.

When I moved South twenty years ago, was at a bar for lunch and ordered “soft shell crab sandwich” She who shall not be named (ex) says “Are you sure about that”? I said yeah, it’s not like they are going to give me a deep fried whole crab on two slices of bread…..

Exactly what I got, blahhhhhh

over crab every time.
True, but I bet you enjoy the F out of that Shrimp down south.

Met my wife when I was stationed in California. One of our first dates she picks Red Lobster. Had no idea what it was about so she orders the steak and lobster. They bring it out and I flat out laughed in the waitresses face. In 1993 this lobster was 28 dollars and it was just slightly bigger than my two thumbs. Take her home to meet the parents the following year and we had lobster tails as big as my fist for 9 bucks. She understood why I found it amusing.

Bumping this as perhaps a more enjoyable topic tonight.

I'm sure i'm the weird one responding like this so here it goes.

1. Lobster in the raw with salt butter is #1. Claws, tail, legs, et al
2. Maryland Crab cakes are #2. Little bit of horseradish....
3. Lobster roll w/ a very little amount mayo, lettuce, on a hot dog roll w kettle chips on the side and an IPA is #3
4. Lobster pie...little bread crumbs. Little lemon juice spritz
5. Fried Crab Legs....fugetaboutit.

skip the mayo - grilled roll with lobster, hot, with drawn butter, maybe a little parsley

lobster, then oysters in any form - raw, fried, stew, etc, etc - lucky enough to live about 20 minutes away from the best oysters in the country, damariscotta river oysters (although there's a few other farms within striking distance that we like as well)

good lobster doesn't need butter.....i'm partial to the months of march & april for the best

i don't think there's any seafood i don't like, though.......give me a good, fresh bluefish filet - 6-8lber or so, bled immediately, fresh that night on the grill.........

I’ll take high quality, separated lump crab any day. It’s sweeter, more versatile, more forgiving a cook.

Lobster vs. crab legs though, I take lobster 11 times out of 10. Crab’s not worth the effort.

Rawk
Rawk Lobster.
