Week 1 win meaning...

I mean, it might sound a little dramatic.

But for the people who say the Patriots will win 10, 11 games, or make the playoffs, the Raiders at home have to be one of those wins.
They're an AFC opponent who will be competing with the Pats for a WC spot. Losing the H2H tiebreaker on them wouldn't be ideal...

Week 1 win is pretty important this year.
I think it really will say a lot about Maye. If he falls short of a close game, or comeback opportunity again, it won't be a good week in the NE media. No matter how well our D plays, or how decent the OL/run game looks, optics all come down to how competent Maye & the pass game works.
I really hope Moses & Diggs come to play, and prove their vet value right out the blocks.

As fans we've all seen the slow starts in the month of September. For this year's patiots team Getting a win week 1 has more significance than in the Win/loss column. It's a continuation of believe into what Vrabel's preaching, it's a pay out of all the hard work the players and coaches put in. It's a confidence in the players and in us the fans that the team can be competitive.

Last season's debacle is in the rear view... this team needs a win on Sunday and they have enough on offense and defense to do so.

How do you feel as a fan about how much a win to open up the season can do for a team?
Really I see this as a game against one of the 8 teams that lost 12 or more games last year that we should sweep. This is probably the best team of those 8, so it’s important.

Getting the 1st win Sunday is a win. We should beat the Raiders anyway...and it's at home.

As they say, from your lips to God’s ears.

Every AFC game is important. Sunday's game is more important than some think. Going to Miami is always tough and you don't want to go down 0-2 and 0-2 in the AFC.

I look at the first 7 or 8 games on the schedule and think we need to win as many of these as we can because they are winnable games except for Buffalo, it starts week 1 with the Raiders.

You cannot usher in change and the Vrabel era with a loss.

The Raiders are nobodies.
Yes, the Raiders are nobodies, the worst in their division. We should end the season with several more wins than they have. Saying that we need this game because we need the tiebreaker against the Raiders is just plain silly.
==========
That being said, our team has had a changeover of coaching and half the players. We will have all new schemes. Last year, we had the worst OL in the league. Whoever starts at OL for this game will have had very few reps as a group.

We often say that a team or an OL might take time to gel and to produce. This has never been more true.

I expect this team to be much, much better after the bye that it is now.
=============
Sure, we should win, but much more important, we need to look like a solid NFL team and continue to improve throughout the year. For example, we should have few penalties, unforced errors and turnovers.

The first of many opponents to fall to YOUR undefeated New England Patriots... or...

"Oh this sh** again"

It means one game. But by God, it's football again

Sure would be sweet to be 4 - 0 and facing the Bills on SNF, but I would settle for 3 - 1.

Week 1 was meaningless for the Bill/Brady era Patriots. Mostly because they always got better as the season progressed. And they were a tested championship team.

Totally different era/team now. Every single game matters. Not so much because it's a race to the playoffs. But because you want the QB to not get used to losing.

He needs to stop acting like Daniel Jones, fumbling and throwing picks is bogus.
As of now, that's who he is.

A win week 1 this time is huge because the margin for error for this team is so small. If your goal is to make the playoffs a week 1 win doesn't get you the obviously, but a loss could keep you out.

There are going to be weeks the Pats are rightfully the underdog to a better team, and weeks where what could have been a 50/50 game is now one where injuries made them a massive underdog that week.

My goal for this team is a championship and history has shown it gets a lot harder after a QBs rookie contract is up, even with a great QB. So making the playoffs this year is so important. cause up and coming teams don't typically win it all on their first run. Which would leave us a window of 1 year if we fail yo make it this year since Maye's year 3 is now about just getting playoff experience... And for all we know that year could be detailed. And now the QB friendly contract window is closed.

While I agree with your overall point, a playoff game this year, even a first round exit loss, would do wonders going forward from an experience perspective I don't think the cheap QB contract window closes for 3 years after this one if Maye is who we hope he is. Can't extend him until next off-season anyway and at that point if he is on the path to stardom you sign him to a 6 year deal. First 2 years are always super cheap and then you play with the last 2 years adding money if you need to, to keep him longer or spread out the hits if he burns out. Either way assuming Maye is the top 10 QB I think he is it's simple to have his cap hit at less then 20 million per for the next 4 years. That to me is the cheap rookie window and what I hope they are building towards.

Belichick lost his first game as HC ... Parcells lost his first game as HC...
Carroll won his first game as HC ... Mayo won his first game as HC...

I want us to win every game, but it is not predictive of the direction the team will take... the first four weeks of the season is a marathon... the last fourteen are a sprint... getting out of the blocks slow doesn't bother me as long as they are playing good, mistake free football at the end of the season...

Pittsburgh could be tough too.

I see Rogers and Metcalf having a big year.
