Bill vs TCU game thread

Yes. Let's ignore a complete no-show blow-out loss. This is what drives me crazy about the "Bill can do no wrong” crowd is that they love to whistle past the graveyard until the bottom falls out, and then regurgitate whatever excuses Bill's minions leak out. I don’t think this means UNC is dead and buried, but after a somewhat turbulent spring and summer, the payoff was supposed to be on the field, and week one they looked underprepared and outmatched from the first minute.
There’s a pretty large gulf between “it’s game 1 of his first season” and “Bill can do no wrong.” This forum, like most of the internet and world these days unfortunately, is full of polarization.

That is a fair point and I guess my previous reply wasn't necessarily directed at you more in general to some on here who defend anything Bill does.

look, if you are going to allow your kids to run your defense, and have your lap dog as your GM, and allow your GF onto the practice field and the sidelines during the game, you had better win games.
if UNC wins 5 games this season, then what?

Pregame.

And if he didn't do those things then losing would be ok?

Brutal. His girlfriend being on the sideline is just absolutely batshit crazy.
Have not cared much about this whole soap opera. But this above all else should tell people how completely off the rails Bill has gone.

The guy was the strictest HC in the NFL who cut players for showing up late and preaching no distraction. Alienated Brady by kicking his physical therapist off the field and team fascilities because deemed him a distraction. For him to become so pathetic is just sad.

That said it is of his own making. I only really feel bad for his sons. They should make their own story and not be sunk by him.

I think it was a fair assumption that the player would fall off first. And frankly, I think in 2019 a lot of people wanted to pin that season on the idea that Brady was declining and the problem because it was more convenient to replace one player vs uproot a failing system. The truth is the coach had been falling off for awhile as a GM and then as a coach.

Also unfortunately it feels like somewhere around 2017 Belichick really started to buy his own hype and got him and his inner circle to think he was a be all end all and now he has trouble adapting and realizing that he can't just make lemonade out of lemons.
New England was the only place in the NFL where you would find football fans who thought an elite coach was more important than an elite QB.

That was the case simply because Brady was a 6th rounder and a lot of people convinced themselves it was all about Bill. If he made a 6th rounder that good, he can make any other QB good.

I still remember the delusional posts about Bill continuing the dynasty without Brady. There were a lot of them.

Now of course our fans are learning the NFL is all about the QB and nothing matters without a good one.

Bill will get fired if he doesn’t turn the ship around and at least win a bowl game. Last night was an embarrassment to Bill and UNC.

TCU is an elite program and based on what I read of his schedule, he won't see many of those.

I also read he has 70 new players. To expect them to all gel by week 1 is foolish. I think they will get better.

Oh they undoubtedly should get better. Based on their schedule it would be a total nightmare if they didn't end with a decent record. That said, they'll still get ass blasted by the elite schools like Clemson. They are paying Belichick big time money to get them to being a real force in college, that probably is unlikely.

Even the way it's all set up, a loss like this is devastating. This isn't the NFL where you can say the first four weeks are an extension of the pre season. Getting massacred by TCU, who is not even ranked for the playoffs pretty much guarantees that they are out this year even if they somehow went undefeated the rest of the way.

We will know the whole picture when we can see the final record and the amount of guys who leave and enter the transfer portal. They weren't going to compete for a national championship this year.

of course not
but being lost off the field in the college game because you hired a friend as GM , that has zero experience in the collegiate recruiting/portal world, and having a bare bones staff, means toss up games on the schedule may be lost simply due to the talent level on the field, regardless of coaching.

facts are the Bill hire was the immediate move in getting UNC in the very near future into the SEC money. that was predicated on Bill making UNC a national player, not a .500 team that is a national butt of jokes and jabs

Agreed .500 won't cut it.

Ya they're pretty much eliminated from playoff consideration now with a blowout loss to an unranked team at home.

I think if they lose to Duke Bill's seat gets really warm.

Agreed. He will still win 8 or so games and make some third-rate bowl, but that is generally what UNC does. They are paying Bill to get them a level or two above that. If they get blown out by every halfway decent opponent but are able to beat Charlotte and Richmond and those nobody schools, I don't know if that is enough to keep him around for a second year. If the whole girlfriend sideshow wasn't happening, I think Bill might get a little bit more leeway, but if things start going sideways within the next couple of months, his minions will be getting their marching orders on who deserves the blame.

TCU is a middle-of-the-road Big 12 school. They have had good years but are not even remotely “elite”.
