Dugger for a Meyers trade is simply a money dump for a rental. I'd get it number-wise if it's a pure money move, but it doesn't make a hell of a lot of sense otherwise for the Patriots.

Meyers is +75% receptions and + 60% yards on Hollins.

The gap between Hollins and Meyers is MUCH greater, at least double, the gap between Meyers and the best WR in the NFL.

If Diggs returns to form and is our WR1, Meyers as a WR2, and then Williams/Chism/Boutte are in WR3-5 roles at even an okaying competency we have our first respectable WR room since maybe 2017.

I wouldn’t be mad if we signed him. I just don’t know how many snaps that would take from the young guys but at this point winning should take priority over developing guys.

Had to respond and disagree with this.

Thats a “win now” attitude that sacrifices the future for the present.

This team does not have a sufficiently good foundation to justify that tradeoff. It sacrifices the future for a mediocre present.

We are still rebuilding. That means developing a solid foundation for the future, not selling out the future for a few more present wins that will at best take us from middle of the pack to slightly above average. Slightly above average with no future prospects is not where we want to be.

Diggs and Hollins won’t be around that long. Meyers is also 29 but his play style will hold up a while.

My question would be at whose expense he would be. Diggs and Hollins aren’t going anywhere, at least this year. Williams is a lock. Then you’re looking at Pop and Boutte but feels wrong to move either of them. Chism could, maybe, take Pop’s job, but not immediately.

I doubt it happens unless Josh is making a big case for him but I wonder which is more beneficial, Boutte and Hollins and their having had a pre-season working with Josh’s current system or Meyers understanding of Josh’s previous system but having to learn the current one with only two weeks to go. Is a change worth it?

The issue is that you bring him in and it’s yet another adjustment Maye has to make. As bad as last year was, we don’t want to do the opposite and dive into complete overwhelm.

Unless it’s an absolute star, I’m not sure it’s worth it right now to mess up the chemistry Maye is trying to build with current receivers.
