Is there a chance White gets traded

Everyone loves Keon White because he mean mugged on draft night. Beyond that, he hasn't shown me much to warrant any consternation whether he's here or not. I like the kid, but I think he's solidly been meh.

Further, I am really not that excited about anyone who 1) doesn't have a ring and 2) has been here while they've had back to back 4 win seasons. I am not advocating getting rid of him, but I don't really care at this point. Show up and show out or ship out.

I don’t agree. A year ago that would make sense, now they have a core of players to build around. I wouldn’t start trading those for unknowns/ draft picks who could take years to develop. The better approach would be to play out the season, see who fits long term and who doesn’t, and continue to build from there. Having a fire sale of everyone but a few guys simply to add draft picks makes no sense at all.
All about the right value though. If some team comes calling wanting a player that’s not a perfect fit for your scheme and is offering a high pick, it would be silly to say no just because there’s a chance they may develop. Obviously you don’t want to have a “fire sale” and trade everyone, but you also can’t be too married to any player outside of a couple.

Ross, I’m talking more about the “ everyone is available but 3 guys” mentality. If they trade White or Duggars or Stephenson I’m fine with that, but they need to build around the guys they want to keep long term, not trade a bunch of guys for picks,

He had a lot of pressures as a rookie which started the excitement.

Then last year he had almost all his sacks in a stretch early in the season which made a lot of us think he had arrived. Admittedly we were premature but the question still remains how much we hold the rest of the year against him given the rest of the mess on the team and on the line.

Had he had a really strong camp I think most everyone would be fully on board but unfortunately that didn't happen. If we are really being fair he deserves the season to really see what's what as far as everything in the past and more realistically just to learn his role in a new defense.

I might consider it for a good starting level OL. That says more about my fears on our OL though. And I don't think very many teams are trading OL starters.

For a quality starting Guard I would do it, I just don’t think that deal is there to be made.

Thinking about the Keion White situation. White has been a decent player, but his story is more about unrealized potential than production. Now he seems like a man without a position in the Vrabel/Williams system.

White is eligible for UFA in 2026. At this point Landry and Chiasson seem entrenched as starters, the team is high on Jones as a rotational guy, the hype surrounding Ponder paints him as a big piece of the future, and Swinton is still here.

I don’t see the value in keeping White on the roster when the tea leaves point to him being a backup in 2025 and playing elsewhere in 2026. Unlike Duggar, he can likely command decent value in a trade.

Why not move him now? He is a good fit for Washington and Minnesota, and they both need interior help.

The Vrabel/Williams defense is a "3/4".

You'll have Williams, Barmore and White as your 3 DL for most downs. You'll have Tonga come on in short-yardage situations..

Why would you look at trading White and why do you think he's a "back-up"?

The only way White should be traded is if you're bringing in Micah Parsons. Otherwise, you're taking one of the best players off the field.

If he is one of the best players he needs to start playing like that. There’s a reason he played deep into the last preseason game, and I’ll guarantee it isn’t because Vrabel thinks he’s been playing like one of the best players. He could be one of the best, but he isn’t now. Hopefully he got a wake-up call from Vrabel and responds. If not, he might as well be traded.

I think Tonga is a little more than just a short yardage player. Obviously he's run first. Versus anyone with a decent RB he probably gets a lot of first down action too. And some rotational action just to give Williams and Barmore breathers.

Tonga actually showed me a little more than I expected in preseason. Good depth/role player signing.

He played a total of 30 snaps. That looks to be exactly 60%. But let's look at some things.

The problem with using the snap count from the Giants game is this:
Blidi (17), Bolden (20), and Moten (12) all played fewer snaps than White and are already gone.
Rice (48), Peko (31), Polk (34) are also gone.

That would imply that the snap counts during the final game aren't what mattered.

There are only so many players that dressed. They had Tonga, Williams, and Barmore not dressed. Leaving 6 DL. 3 DE/ 3 DT.
The DE were White, Ritzie, and Blidi. Farms, Olajiga, and Farmer were the DT.

Blidi played 17 snaps. 17. Ritzie played 33 and White 30.

What base were they in? Sure looks like a 4-3 based on the snaps of the DTs and LBs.

Blidi was signed this week. Had limited practice snaps. To me, the limited game snaps said they already had made their decision prior to the game that he was gone.

Lazar, who works for the Pats, already projects White now as a back up. Don't let bozo's gaslight you into second guessing your opinion on him. White's whining last year was all about the coaching. He's got better coaching and nothing has changed - not surprised. If you need "better coaching" to be a better player, you're high maintenance.

With that said, injuries occur so he should be kept for one more year unless the Pats get a 3rd round pick for him today (not happening).

White is a quality backup. We need more quality backups not less if we are going to have a successful season amid injuries.

I have not been a White fan. Recognizing that, Vrabel said White was playing against the Giants to work on the skills he was being taught. White seems committed. Maybe he will pick up the skills and become a player. White already has the athleticism.

It would be crazy to trade him. He is an excellent play and will be a lot better with the two Big Moose DTs that the Patriots now have. It is a long season and you need depth

Keep him
Stop giving away the talent for nothing

Devil’s advocate. Other than Maye & Gonzales, which players do you feel are true building blocks ? I guess you could say the unproven picks from rounds 1 & 2 ? But other than that ?

Assuming he’s back into shape, Barmore is their best front 7 player. Spillane is going to be a fan favorite.

On offense, all eyes will be on Henderson, Williams and Will Campbell.

Yes. We have 7 roster-able edge guys. 5 is all we really need to have a good rotation with enough depth.

Landry and Chaisson are almost certainly safe. Everyone else is potentially fair game of White Ponder Swinson Truman and Jennings.

I think White really hasn't been much better than Ponder, Truman or Jennings. And while we talk about Jennings not being a scheme fit, is White much more of one. he seems like more of a power than speed guy unlike the 3 rookies.

Thats why I’m hopeful. But he needs to show the attitude and commitment. Those are the essential skills he really needs to pick up and master. That’s the foundation that can lead to him picking up the playing skills. Let’s hope he succeeds. We will see.
