While you’re correct in principle, in this case he did not throw to the seam on the right hash either (Douglas). This was the play where he escaped pressure from the pocket on the right, and hit Hollins on the boundary for a big gain (Hollins not shown in photo).Mayes read is clearly the receiver in the seam on the right hash which appears to be where he threw.
For the millionth time Wbs don’t drop back look over the field and figure out who is open.
They have progressions. If progression 1 is open, throw it to him. If not go to 2, and if 2 is open throw it to him on down the line.
A later progression being open isn’t a consideration until you get through your primary progressions.
This is also the play where Dan Orlovsky said he should have looked off the deep safety on the left to open Douglas up for a TD on the right hash.
