OT: Josh Simmons steal of draft

Joe Alt was a special LT prospect and was a much better pass blocker than run blocker in year 1
Was not great at either but very good Pass blocker and slightly above average run blocker.
Alt played RT last year for the LAC... he is moving to LT this year, replacing the injured Rashawn Slater, who is out for the year with a torn patellar tendon...

---

I think Campbell had a very good start in PS1... last night should have calmed any anxiety over his selection in this years draft...

He played two series against backups. He didn’t dominate anyone but also didn’t get dominated. He did alright.

I don’t think last night tells us much either way.

I thought last night told us a great deal. That team was excited to play football and knock the **** out of people. The teams we saw the previous 5 years played with the enthusiasm of Russian conscripts heading off to be shot or blown up in Ukraine.

Agreed, they looked ready to roll

I wasn’t talking about the team, I was talking about Will Campbell.

But sure the overall operation looks good and promising. Would expect nothing less from a coach such as Vrabel.

He did alright in pass protection. Not great, not bad. We already knew he was good in run blocking. So I don’t see a reason to be horny or disappointed in him.

He didn’t give up a sack or much pressure but he did get moved around some in pass-pro. The play calling did the line a favor with a lot of running and short passes or scrambles. They didnt call many plays that needed time to develop which would have really been a test for the pass blocking.

Game Day Thread: Did you guys see Will Campbell’s right foot on that 3rd pass play? On his third step his right foot was at least an inch inside of where it should have been. This means that he had to compensate at least 1/2 if an inch with his left foot. This spells disaster when the real bullets start flying. They need to get Verdarian Lowe in there ASAP, he’s a really nice guy and his right instep is never an inch inside of where it needs to be in pass pro, thus he never has to make that 1/2 inch compensation with his left instep. Marrone needs to get Campbell off the field or they are going to be picking first in the draft again next year.

Let’s see how he does against starters in the regular season over a whole game.
He did well last night in limited action against backups.
We know he will excel for the run game.
Hopefully he won’t get Maye killed against speed edge rushers

Josh Simmons plays tonight vs the Cardinals.

The Chiefs have invested a lot into their 2025 OL. RT Jawan Taylor has a 20 mil salary for 2025.

Really? The Campbell hate is unreal. I watched him ragdoll someone downfield on a run play. He’s got a mean streak that will serve him well.

When Maye fumbled Campbell tried to get it but could not reach it.

I see what you mean.

except the people he was playing against will be selling insurance in a few weeks.

I’ve said it a few posts ago but I want to see the overall package for Campbell, and for that matter the rest of the line. He proved in training camp and tonight that he can be great with the run blocking. That’s a check mark in his favor.

But there is another side of the coin with pass protection. If he is merely solid there I’ll be happy with him. But the jury is still out there on that.

Whole heartedly disagree.

In the few snaps he had, specifically in the running game, he was dominant. You can't have watched him play and not have seen that. Pass pro? average to good.

If you didn't focus on him, that's fine ... there were other things to watch than track an OT.

Its not hate. Why does everyone onthis board think that pointing out factual limitations is “hate”

He is not Jonathan Ogden or Anthony Munoz ( or Josh Simmons LOL) OK?

That is not “hate”
Most rookie LTs will not be perfect in all phases. He is just not a generational talent

Run blocking: good (already known and it showed)
Pass blocking: jury out (average fits the little there was to glean)

That’s all I’m trying to get across with him. People tend to judge an LT on protecting their QB on the blindside not as much their contribution to the running game.

I was watching everything and overall pleased in the our starter’s performance against their backups.

It's our first look at him in live action... He did not come off as a liability which has been the picture painted of him because of 3/8ths of an inch... So far so good

PS2 vs minny in a week... Every one will be waiting, watching...

Isn’t that the hope for all 32 left tackles, oops sorry, 31 tackles, Josh Simmons won’t even give up one QB pressure this season.
