Typically when a player with big guaranteed money is released, they go sign for vet minimum somewhere else because anything their new team pays would just offset what their old team is already paying them.

Wilkins’ situation is interesting because the Raiders voided his guaranteed money, so it would seem like that approach is off the table, but he’s suing to get it back and seems like a situation he would likely win… So I don’t really know how that would work in the end. Would money paid to him get offset later when the suit is settled?

May work to NE’s advantage, having a healthy amount of cap space still, if he’s not just a “play for vet minimum” candidate.
Agreed. Having the available cap space at this time is huge. I'm sure he'll have plenty of suitors however I'm hoping that his relationship with Vrabel will be the deciding factor. With a void in leadership at the NFLPA with JC tretter being ousted.. it's to wonder how the NFLPA is going to handle it. I Hope he does come to us.

from what I have read, he is not ready to play, with the team suggesting a second surgery, He declined to have it. when he was released he was on the PUP.

I would not consider him to be healthy and ready to go.

He is supposedly healthy the injury happened last season. The timeline was a 4-8 week recovery that type of foot injury. it's apparently stemming from the organizations choice and his personal choice to rehab. PUP could mean anything, recovering still, rehabbing still ect. Who knows? Anyhow the idea, if he's healthy is intriguing on strictly a football aspect.

Would the fact that the Pats first game this season is against the Raiders play any role?

lol that is funny to consider. Since the issue was a divide in the best recovery plan for him, the Patriots signing him and having him healthy and ready to knock the Raiders OL around right on week 1 is probably an attractive proposition to him. It effectively would be proving to them he was right by force.

With the same posse, except for one pass-rushing 3-Tech.
Barmore barely played last year.
Williams is more than must a pass rusher.
Tonga is a new run stuffer
Farmer is an upgrade
We revamped the LB spot with Spillane, Gibben and Landry.

60-75% of the snaps on the front 6 will be different.

He might've still been hanging-on to late-2nd-round status by the end of April, but Polk was definitely a prospect on the decline, or at least not on the rise as were others such as his teammate Jalen McMillan... And same as One-If &/or Upstater, I also started reading & hearing about McMillan being mentioned more often as the superior overall WR prospect to Polk when coaches started doing their own evals...

What also pissed me off a great deal was the terms of the trade-down with LA itself, considering what happened Immediately after the Chargers took McConkey...
I disagree.

Sure, McConkey worked out, but you are one that should know that DeJean was better pick for us.

DeJean was the BPA and was available AFTER we traded. DeJean plus taking a shot in the 4th on a WR or OL seemed much, much more reasonable than drafting McConkey.
========
And there were question marks on McConkey. Not everyone was convinced that he should be a 1st rounder.

From google AI

"In the lead-up to the 2024 NFL Draft, wide receiver Ladd McConkey from Georgia presented several intriguing strengths and some potential question marks that NFL teams considered.
Here's a breakdown of the question marks and areas of potential concern surrounding McConkey's NFL draft profile:
  • Injury History: McConkey's availability was a notable concern due to back and ankle injuries suffered during his college career. While he played through some of these issues, the nagging nature of these injuries raised durability questions, especially considering the physical demands of the NFL.
  • Size and Strength: McConkey possesses an average frame and below-average length and reach for a wide receiver. This lack of size and strength could hinder his ability to consistently beat press coverage at the line of scrimmage or win contested catches. Some analysts suggested that this might limit him to a complementary role rather than a primary offensive weapon.
  • Ability Against Physicality: Scouts questioned whether McConkey could consistently fight through physical defensive backs at the catch point and during route stems. This could impact his ability to separate against tighter coverage and complete catches in traffic.
  • "Top-End" Speed: While McConkey displayed impressive burst and speed (running a 4.39 40-yard dash at the Combine), some draft profiles suggested his long speed might not be elite enough to consistently beat top NFL athletes on deep routes.
Despite these question marks, McConkey also showcased significant strengths:
  • Exceptional Route Running: McConkey is regarded as a polished and deceptive route runner with advanced technique, allowing him to create separation at all levels.
  • Yards After Catch (YAC) Ability: He demonstrates impressive quickness and vision after the catch, making him a threat to turn short passes into big gains.
  • Reliable Hands: McConkey is generally viewed as a reliable pass catcher with strong hands, even in contested situations.
  • Versatility: He can effectively play both inside (slot) and outside receiver positions, adding scheme flexibility.
  • High Football IQ: McConkey's intelligence and ability to find soft spots against zone coverage were noted as positives.
Ultimately, NFL teams balanced these concerns with his undeniable talent and potential. While some questioned his long-term durability and ceiling as a WR1, his route-running skills, athleticism, and proven production made him a sought-after prospect in the 2024 NFL Draft."

From what rappaport and NESN mentioned on Wilkins was that it was a disagreement on rehab decisions between his representatives and the organization. So with a new regime in place under Carroll the organization wanted no drama. Apparently Wilkins is healthy and ready to play. He and Vrabel have a relationship, and Vrabel even saying he would look into it.

Imagine having Wilkins, Barmore, white, Williams up front. Again there's risk with everything.
All the reports read like it was a disagreement about FORWARD-GOING TREATMENT or something yet to be done. So, HEALTHY…doesn’t sound logical.

Oh I don't know... you tell me.. I'm not going to be at work supposedly injured but dancing in the break room... Wilkins looks healthy to me..

did you read the article where it said "he had some sort of a setback in his recovery"?

and?

I don't think that says what you think that says...

To expand upon this.

Last year the front 6/7 played a total of 6749 snaps last year.
Of those.
2933 (43.4%) were played by players no longer here and the following guys played a lot more snaps than it looks like they will this year.
Jennings 831
Tavai. 915
Ellis 513
Pharms. 457

That’s another 2716.
If those guys play half as much as they did last which seems like more than they really will, that’s 64% of the front 7 snaps taken by new players.

This is close to a total overhaul of the front 6, with White being the only guy who played significant snaps last year, likely to again.

That's besides the point. Does he look injured to you? Whether he truly is injured or available is obsolete the video shows otherwise no matter what's reported. All I'm saying man..

We can speculate all we want and the reports seem varied. I still stick with my initial thought, get this man on a plane to Foxboro asap to see what the really story is with his foot. When healthy, he would be a huge addition.

I pay more attention to teams actions. What did the raiders do? Cut him. He could have been healthy enough to participate who knows? Idk man just my opinion.

Agreed 100%.. I've been in on him. Your right it's all opinion and speculation right now.

Not sure about others; but I certainly have no issue w checking him out …. ( put him on a plane or better yet; show your interest and send a coach ‘& med SME to him)

If he good to go he can help or is maybe worth it for 2026 or a 2025 playoff push if not healthy yet.

I (& I suspect others) just were disagreeing with the supposition that he already IS HEALTHY.

Reminder that anonymous reports on Twitter need to be taken skeptically:

Why clip the attribution on that unfounded hatchet job?

Hold people accountable.

I want to know what jerk invented a claim that slandered Diggs as well as Baker. It affects my belief in everything else they say.
