No need to wait,

White does NOT have a future as an EDGE/OLB at 285 pounds.
===========
He was brought in to replace Guy and then move up to replaced Wise.

Vrabel won't consider him an OLB as so many here do.
Barmore and Milton will get the bulk of DT reps so White will need to make his mark as DE/edge.

When Guy and Wise were here they got lots of reps. If White is not good enough to deserve reps as a defensive lineman. then so be it. In that case, he'll be the first off the bench. At 285-pounds has not been effective as an EDGE rusher. Why should we put him in a position to be mediocre yet again?

Vrabel knew he had White. Even then, he brought in Chaisson, Landry and Swinson to compete with Jennings for reps on the EDGE. Spillane will likely play inside. However, if needed, he is probably a better choice as an EDGE rusher than White.

Wait so you don't even think White will start?

We have no idea what the starting roles will be or who will fill them.
==============
For example, I am fine with
Milton, Barmore, White
Landry, Spillane

and a 6th depending on down, situation, and opponent
=================
If the 6th is Tonga, that doesn't make White an EDGE/OLB rusher any more than Milton
Milton, Barmore, Tonga, White
Landry, Spillane

Fingers crossed Barmore is all ok now and no more problems.

Unfortunately I think the question will always linger, and they will always need to have a replacement ready, but I agree with the sentiment. I think the Josh Farmer pick this draft was a great insurance policy for them, he’s going to be really good player.

Agree. To me it's more of a question who plays and how much as opposed to who starts.

For instance i'm not convinced White warrants playing 74% of the snaps like he did last year. Maybe hes more effective in certain down/distance situations and matchups?

I agree there will always be a question but once Andrews got back I don't remember really thinking about it much with him.

I may have misread/misinterpreted it.

I want Williams to prove me wrong because I'm the rare poster actually pumping up this team for 2025. If Williams and Barmore have big years, the defense is going to surprise a lot of people.
Agreed. I feel like the secondary as a whole is a huge part to the defense. Peppers puts fear in guys coming across the middle. Davis is going to see alot of balls his way due to Gonzo taking away that side of the field.

I think is best to have guys in heavy rotation.. we don't need guys playing more than they need to if it's not necessary.. I say this with a 17 week and week 14 bye.. it's going to be critical to manage guys.. especially Barmore we have enough depth to have guys fresher at end of games and during the season. Vrabel's not going to tom coughin his guys...

I whole heartedly disagree we are 5th...]
Like all defensive backfields, even talented ones, the Patriots backfields ability to look good will depend on the defensive fronts ability to stuff the run and create pressure.

Assuming health and the defensive front playing great we could have the best defensive backfield in the NFL.

Your correct Wozzy. The secondary has been good, and is good. 5th isn't a bad spot.. but they are much higher IMO.. as mentioned the patiots get knocked down becuase of the records last few seasons.

A healthy Dugger and peppers would start on any team in the NFL. Gonzo is the best cover cb in the league.

True, the reality is they had the personnel to be league best last year in the backfield but the team was so poorly schemed and managed the defense floundered.

This is why the single most important addition to this team was Vrabel. Bad leadership rolls downhill.

This simply cannot be stressed enough.

Agreed. Drake is the lure for Vrabel without Drake i don't think we get Vrabel. He probably ends up in Chicago or somewhere else. But I watch guys like you do all around the league is don't see one singular CB has the physical attributes, speed and agility that gonzo possess.

Sauce is overrated. Good but primarily a zone CB.
Surtain is good but wouldn't say lock down.

Stingley is good as well but is there anything that wows you?
Baltimore outside of Hamilton at S, CBs get toasted routinely
Who else is there?

Pats have the best DT's and defense in the division. This is an easy call.

Barmore had no help, but still had a career year in 2023. Williams assisting with Landry off the edge is going help other guys like White and others to have a good year.

Who's gonna stop the run to make all of these 3-Techs & Pass-Rushers look good?

17 straight running plays... SEVENTEEN...

It ain't gonna be the Million Dollar Twins Barmore & Williams, not by a damn sight. Neither had that kinda game in college; and I doubt they've developed one since then either. Farmer might be more productive vs the run already than either of them, but he also doesn't have enough sand in his pants to be productive consistently either. And he's a rookie to boot. Jack the King? A nice training camp/practice squad/maybe end-of-53 player, but he's not the #1-2 DT on running downs in this league we needed, and still do....

Khyiris Tonga? I was initially glad because at least they finally signed somebody; but then... Nothing. They would've been better-served spending a couple of extra bucks and at least signing his former lineman on the Cardinals, and the better player, Roy Lopez, if that was all they were gonna do.

Color me Skeptical.
