Sidy Sow

I think they'd rather have Sow make a leap than Strange, all things considered, but I think they'd pay for quality production from either of them.

ETA: Sow played ~75% of snaps as a rookie, but about ~15% last year. I have no idea why, exactly. In any case, he needs ~20% of snaps this year to get the PPE escalator that will raise his salary next year.
I agree, mainly because Strange already sustained a serious injury.

But having the depth of a Guard/Tackle tweener like Sow off the bench is a luxury. Moses is old, keep as many good players as possible. Sow and Strange are both on rookie deals, they’re cheap… keep both.

I’m going to need you to back off the logic here Woz…we can’t have people spouting logical things in these here forums…

Well, that's fairly typical of the crew.

Based on his first season, last year was an anomaly or vise versa.

He graded out really good in his rookie season with PFF.

He’s interesting to me because of how well he played in year 1.

I want Strange at LG. He has the most exp there and with a rookie LT on the side, i want a exp guy next to him. Wilson is the future at center and let him just concentrate there as a back up.
Ont thing that upset me last year was musical chairs during camp at oline.

Correct, if Strange didn’t get hurt the week before the regular season Sow would have started at RT. Sow had secured that job in camp and preseason.
Sow is a good player. Hadn't he been hurt with a serious ankle last year he would have been the RT IMO.. he's better than Jacobs. Basically Wozzy, we have our best 5 starting.

Campbell
Strange
Bradbury
Ownenu
Moses

Everyone else is filling depth roles.

Heading into camp Strange is the starter at LG. He has natural athletic ability to excel at his position. He will need to stay healthy because Sow is Chomping at the bit behind him... Campbell isn't the typical rookie..he came from a pro style system at LSU and his maturity and football IQ is said to be far beyond his age. I don't think we see much rookie mistakes from Campbell.

Agreed, I also like the promise in the two rookies Jared Wilson and Marcus Bryant. With Sow and these two any leftovers will have a hard time making the game day roster assuming health.

Agreed in fact. Robinson and Wallace are guys as well that stand to greatly benefit from some top notch coaching. With a week 14 bye and grueling 17 week season offensive lineman don't sub in and out like other positions so it's Imperative that we have some adequate depth.

I see Wallace, Robinson and Jacobs in a “show me” situation. Wolf liking them will not save them this year.

Strange at 100% health is average to slightly above.
today, that is better than Sow or L Robinson

but is the ceiling higher for those two? and is Strange 100%?
we start to find out in about 2 weeks
There are 32 teams in the NFL, each team rosters 8-9 offensive linemen. That averages out to be 260-290 offensive linemen in the NFL at a given time.

Calling high quality starters “average” is typical Patriots fan malaise. We suck, everything is horrible negative Nancy type nonsense. Kind of like the 2014-2018 Patriots teams when we were told they had “no talent.”

Strange was better than average in 2021 and he was just a rookie. Both he and Sow are just beginning their professional journey, probably too soon to label them average. Robinson couldn’t lock down a starting job as a rookie, he isn’t in the same boat.

There’s dozens and of lesser players sitting on NFL benches and rosters across the league. That’s not how averages work.

there are 64 starting OG's in the league
Strange's best season, we was in that 25 thru 35 range by any metric used.
today he is in that 55 thu 60 range
sorry

You said average lineman, not average starter. Now you’re moving the goalposts.

We also don’t know how healthy he is today, you’re just assuming he’s hobbled because you have a bias.

Maybe just wait to see if he’s healthy first.

I want Caedan Wallace to take the RT job from Morgan Moses this year... play so damn well they have to play him... Starting RT coming out of Penn State, he should have the chops to handle the position... be nice to get both Tackle spots square away this year...

as far as the offensive linemen "rankings" are concerned, the only metric needed is your eyes... the rest of it is kinda ********, isn't it? they do not have measurable stats like the position players do, and it does them a disservice by treating them in the same manner...

If you think Cole Strange has been mid at best, then I'd ask what criteria you are using, and what extent you have watched the other guards in order to make your evaluations...

I LOVE Wilsons future promise, and loved the pick, but there is NO way is a kid with his limited starting experience ready to be playing C on a regular business. I want to see him on ST's and getting reps only if there are injuries. He is not mentally ready for snaps now.

And sorry Woz, but I don't even want to think about Bryant being the back up LT. That's too big a jump from the 7th round to being on the field if Campbell is injured. I'll be happy with him getting reps on the PS before playing for a back up role next year.

My understanding is that Sidy Sow was the backup RT at the end of last year. Why wasn't it Wallace? the 2024 team drafted Robinson and Wallace and pushed Robinson into the starting lineup, but not Wallace. I am sure Wallace has a clean slate this year like everyone else, but we might see Wallace at OG based on indications from 2024. Onwenu might be in his last year.

Wallace or Marcus Bryant would be nice, it would be good to have one good young starter opposite Campbell to bookend the line.
