2025 Red Sox Thread

What's John Henry's address whenever he's in town? That's the dude towards whom our torches & pitchforks Really need to be directed;
Brez is just a spineless lackey stiff.
That word reminds me of this guy....ugh

Full disclosure: Cooper-Scott was a **** O'Connell trade. Dude made some really, Really bad ones during the 1970s; and one of his very first ones as GM back in 1966 - Earl Wilson to Detroit for Garbage - might've cost his team the '67 WS... Seemed like he was a better evaluator of minor-league talent than he was of major-league talent.

And that 1986 team? They should've been our own Boys of Summer, because some of the key members of the 1975-78 teams, including Fisk, Cooper, Burleson, Lynn & Eckersley, never should've ben sent-away in the first place.
Eck was consuming a 5th of bourbon a day in 1986.

The only game I saw between July 1998 (a brother-in-law's bachelor party) and last August with my daughter (freebies from her work for a make-up game on a late-afternoon Wednesday vs Seattle) was on the 4th of July 2011 vs Toronto, when all four of us suffered in the sun boxes for almost 4 hours and that dude never finished the 3rd inning... I had a bad feeling about him even before we left for the place...

Yeah, Eck was toast (pun intended) when he left here. He cleaned himself up and had his renaissance. Good for him.

Yeah Damon said he'd never sign with the Yankees no matter the money... then he signed with Yankees because of the money.

Sounds like Raffy shot his way out of town. No point having a malcontent here.
The Sox lowballed him. Damon remains one of my favorite players. Never wanted to leave. All the Sox had to do was offer him a fair contract- he would've taken less to stay. They offered him dogshit.
Not Damon's fault. It's 100% on ownership. As usual.

Johnny D had several solid years after he left so I agree. However Coco Crisp - while he was barely 75% as a replacement, did OK. Once Ellsbury emerged they solved for Johnny D.

Want the fans to love you? don't sign with NY.

Yep, no one stoops so low as when they sign with NY. It was one thing when he was our lovable mercenary, leaving Oakland for Boston's bucks. Quite another when he shamelessly whored himself out for that filthy Yankee lucre

Was it a 5th of bourbon by Noon? Nice breakfast.

Amazing how some guys are so talented they can abuse themselves and then recover to re-emerge. I can't imagine possessing such talent.
Even more amazing that they can find a way to climb out of the hole that they dug themsleves into.

So, how 'bout them Sox?

It's going to be an interesting couple of weeks. The team that gave us a 6 game losing streak has now gone on an 8 game win streak. Put up or get sent down (or shipped out) time with the trade deadline looming in a couple of weeks, added motivation I guess we could say.

Really sucks about Dobbins though.

Sox win again. Train keeps on rolling. Doing it with great pitching and timely hitting. Hope to keep it rolling after the break. Three first place teams next on their schedule.

They have me sitting up in my chair.

...but last year at this time they were 10 games over .500 and leading the WC by 2 games.

With that said I think they have better pitching and D this year but I think we'd all agree they need bats, a back end starter and one more setup guy.

The question is can Breslow get Henry and Werner drunk enough and agree to take on some salary?

I never thought of that. Wilson was a stud and won 22 games in 1967 for Detroit tying Lonborg for the league lead. He definitely would have been one of the starters in the WS. That way Lonborg wouldn't have had to go on 2 days rest in game 7. I think you are right. It cost the Red Sox the 1967 World Series. Good thing the Sox picked up Don Demeter. WTF?

One out away from a 10 win streak.

And 10 it is. This team is really fun to watch. Hope they can keep up the momentum after the break. Any ideas what the plan is at the trading time?

A quality starter. Lugo should be there if the Sox want him. He would automatically be their 2nd best starter after Crochet.
Followed by Bello and Giolito and that's as good a rotation as there is in mlb.
They do that they are legit threats to win it all. Lugo would cost them one of their top young players or Duran. The competition will be fierce as he's by far the best starter available. But Sox have more trade chips than any other contender. We'll see.
Things are getting interesting and yeah, they're fun to watch.
