Alex Barth's post-OTAs "way too early" roster projection

We'll see, but I wouldn't consider Polk a "head case"; Baker on the other hand,

I think that we would all be fine if both Polk and Baker are beaten out for roster spots on the 53.
Agree. When a guy can't catch a ball and is a WR, that is a headcase. Maybe it was his shoulder? Any R2 WR should at least be able to catch the ball.

Drafted for his blocking....got it
Top of R2, Henderson is a total package. In baseball they say 5 tool guy. Henderson has the smarts, the blocking, the hands, the speed, the moves to run, the strength, everything. His only issue is can he stay healthy.

Henderson is James White on steroids (figuratuvely speaking ).

As much as I love the Kyle williams pick Henderson was my favorite pick of the draft.it was so nice to be sitting their hoping they would pick him, and then see it done.

I can only count 2 times that happened under Belichick, the first was Wilfork, who I couldn’t believe was still there, the other was Hightower. Belichick tortured me in the drafts.

I suspect that one of the Robinson's will be a backup OG.

For me, this is one our weakest position now that Schweitzer has retired. We'll see, but I wouldn't be surprised with a veteran to replace Schweitzer as our backup LG (or starter if Strange doesn't fit. Strange SHOULD be good enough for this year.

if healthy, I assume Strange is serviceable? Robinson, Robinson, Sow and Wilson may also factory at LG. reports are that Wallace is also kicking inside some this summer.

I can't get a read on how Vrabel feels about Strange. I don't know if it's the injury, him being in a walk year, or something else but I don't get the feeling Vrabel is locked into Strange. Hopefully I'm just overthinking it but between trying him at center and a few other guys getting reps as LG1 this spring I think it could be more of an open competition than we realize.

I assume the Wallace thing is more about gameday versatility than a permanent move to guard. But it would be an interesting option at guard just based on size.

I agree on Wallace. I think that his future is at RT, but perhaps he can be the GameDay backup/emergency RG. This would actually help us a lot. Wallace could then be the backup RT, RG and the 6th OL on jumbo sets. I think that this is a good role for a backup.
=======
This would allow razor focus on LG (one of these needs to be the #3 emergency center).
=======
LG CANDIDATES (2-3 roster spots)
Strange, Sow, Robinson, Robinson, Brown, new acquisition
========
IMO, only those with strong rose-colored glasses have confidence in this group. I would expect 2 additions next year.

I look at the current starters of
Campbell
Strange
Bradbury
Ownenu
Moses

Vrabel is showing us that that's the best starting 5 unit, and they all will be given the opportunity to cement themselves in camp. Campbell doesn't have any competition so he's a lock.. how many bull rushes to Williams and Barmore will Bradbury give up before he's unseated? What say you?

Depends on how quickly Wilson can get up to speed but I think Bradbury is a vast improvement over our centers last year without Andrews so hopefully it doesn't get to that.

Your right, I like Bradbury as he has great experience at C, honestly no C in the NFL is going to be able to handle our DL.. so that's not really a knock on Bradbury.

As it currently stands strange is entering camp as the starter at LG. Will Campbell end with him as a starter is still a question. I want to say yes, but the front 7 is vastly improved on defense.

I agree
my gut feeling was that the other 4 spots were/are locked down, LG is not
too many injuries? bad scheme fit?
from my vantage point last year, L Robinson had some very good run blocking plays. left quite a bit to be desired in pass pro.
once the pads come on

Larison is on the bubble, but his skillset should translate to special teams which should help him make a roster push.

Barth fancies himself as a “draft guy”, so he should know Larison already has significant experience as a special team, not only as a punt returner but as a coverage guy. Let the team in punt coverage tackles as a senior. The fact that he wanted to continue to play a special team snaps despite being by far their best player has been lauded by his college coaches.

Barth doesn’t annoy me as much as he used to, however, as far as I know he has no background as a player even in high school and the reality is that many of the posters here are just as knowledgeable as he is (no, not you, Sam).

In fact, several Patsfans members are more knowledgeable than he is, not only about a film-breakdown but also the technical aspects of football. Another example of better to be lucky than good.

I actually really like this projection based on what we know today. I agree with those who say that the WR position will sort itself out in camp. A lot will change. Injuries, guys playing better and expected, guys disappointing…. We’ll see. I do like that there is so much youth projected here.

I definitely think Larison is making the 53. Like Chism he has a specific skill set MacDaniels loves to use. I think Gibson is the guy that could be a goner, but I’m fine with keeping both of them.

I think most of us agree that carrying 7 WRs on the initial 53 is not likely (vs., say, 6 + 1 on a reserve list). Setting aside the question of who you would cut, who would you give that WR's spot to?

I can't really see who makes this team until TC happens. Lots can happen, injuries , performance etc. I still have Boutte as a lock for the WRs though.
That's why I say he's the forgotten man.. think about last season all the big plays for TDs Drake had.. went to Boutte.. Texans, Jaguars, bills games for example. Boutte and his development is trending upwards. He has a place in this offense. Boutte was the only one who could consistent get open on the outside last season. Some have mentioned about Larison.. I doubt he makes the 53.
