2025 Red Sox Thread

It's even worse than I thought. They didn't get anything back in the trade. It's $330m for a DH so I get that part, but this guy has top 5-10 in baseball hitting abilities. Vlad Guererro just got $500m. Don't tell me he gets and extra $170m for fielding.

How they ever let Betts go still boggles my mind, you couldn’t ask for a better player and person.

Henry and Cora both need to go!

Huge win today, sweeping the Yankees on Devers HR, and then they trade him for a bag o& magic beans, much like Betts for Verdugo, how did that work out?

Cora should have been banned from baseball for life, Rose only bet on his team to win, Cora literally cheated to win a World Series.

Started to hope that they could interwine the farm system with the vets and some key signings but thats over.

F this team and especially Henry. Just stops at 4 championships and we become the A’s. F NESN and all the profits, the merchandise, the dumbass fans that continue to go to games and support Henrys cash cow. He realized he doesn’t even have to spend on this team because this fan base is there rain or shine, high attendance in other parks for the transplants.

You can call it a calculated move, Devers is a ****, whatever, bottom line, the ****ing trade deadline isn’t for another month. Are you telling me noone would want another top 10ish hitter to sway their WS chances while we picked some good talent in return?

So be it.

Some one needs to 'splain to me how this Rafael Devers trade makes sense, the return is paltry and will do nothing for this team.
Reminds me of the Mookie Betts trade...
Another reason why I will probably never watch another RS game..

I wouldn't want James Harden on the Celtics, and I'm glad Devers is gone from the Sox. Out of shape, poor attitude, me-first guy.
That's a $240M check written from the bank account of the SF Giants deposited directly into the Sox for other playing signings. I'll take it.
Extend and play the kids. Sign another big pitcher, or trade for the Pirate's ace. That's a team worth rooting for.

Can't do anything about the ownership but this team just got substantially more likable from where I sit. Devers was really dragging the team down in that regard
I am certainly not happy with how Devers handled the position switch, but he was our best hitter and carrying the offense many nights. I think there is some sort of pissing contest with Cora and the front office, which is also hilarious because they just paid him last year. Cora seemed to take Devers’ side in all this mess and didn't push Devers to do what was best for the team, which I am sure pissed off Breslow and ownership, so they sent him packing. Now instead of building off a 5-game win streak and a sweep of the Yankees, we could completely go in the tank with a manager who seems checked out and an offense already in need of firepower. People still are pissed about trading Betts and letting Bogaerts walk; now we get this?

I don't really care they got rid of Devers, I care they gave away a top flight hitter. I really hate John Henry.

Me neither. Kinda annoys me he took a stand on DH and 1B but the Sox didn't do him any favors.

They totally mishandled his situation as they did with Mookie (whom they should have kept but might be breaking down now)

I find that I even don't want to make the daily 12 minute commitment to watch highlights on youtube now.

Me neither. I've checked out.

Too bad Wyc and his dad can't buy the Red Sox,.

It's a shame. I really want to like them, but they do this crap and it makes it impossible.

This made a mediocre team worse. Any real path forward for this roster to become good again included Devers for the time being until some next great prospect develops.

More concerning, the sliver of hope this team got this weekend has been completely dashed and the front office basically affirmed their commitment that we will not be competing this year.

This is a very easy one. When the man who pays you 31.5 million per year flies down to KC on a Friday night to ask you to do what's best for the team and not publicly throw the organization under the bus and after that you still give him the finger? A person like that doesn't work for that organization for very long. Tie in the fact that he is out there taking grounders at short stop pre game and you can see how the optics aren't great for the team.

Did the Red Sox handle it perfectly? I don't really know, seemed to be some level of mixed messaging. But still, when I look at a team that has Toro plays third base, then first. Mayer playing 3rd when he had about 10 game there in the minors. Cambell was playing center and second.

Yet doughboy couldn't pick up a glove and take grounders at first just to see, no he takes them at short. Teammates see that and I guarantee it rubs them the wrong way. Thats why he HAD to be gone. The instant he had the press conference in ST and his arrogance about being a team player, I wanted him gone.

Wait until Bregman comes back, has a solid rest of the season and opts-out. Let's hope Mayer can play 3B at least better than Devers. Seems like a given but his value is still as a SS. He has that beautiful swing so he'll hit and hit for power.
Also, by the time Story's contract is up in two more years the Sox have some solid SS's coming up, including a 19 year old (Franklin Arias) playing in High A ball who is a really good prospect. He needs to get stronger but has time to mature physically.

Ortiz from the top rope, nailed it. Anyone now wondering why they traded him?

I don't think anyone is questioning the why. It's them giving him away.
