I know, very well, that there is more to D than alignment. Not sure sure why you would think I don't.

I was making 3 points. The first is that Ponder is no lighter than other excellent "EDGE" players in this league. The second us that the Pats have used players the same weight as Ponder as 4-3 DE / 3-4 OLB / "EDGE" in the past. One of whom is the Current Coach in Vrabel.

My last point, to you specifically, was that BB's defensive style morphed over his tenure and it was seen by the changes in the alignments he ran.

I like Pop's playmaking ability, but hear me out. He's not that situationally aware on the field and frustrates me against zone; I don't think he sits in open spots as much as he should. It's possible he may struggle in McDaniel's offense with sight adjustments. I hope I'm wrong, but there's a scenario that Chism comes in and plays the Welker or perhaps Amendola role in his stead. We shall see.

We will see how these guys pan out, how many dont work out.

Almost all won't. We are in the common media hype stage of the season. Mini-camps and OTAs are not meant for external evaluation because they are about fundamentals, team integration, and scheme fit.

All aspects which dont translate as well to "how will this guy perform in game situations/statistically". Pitch and catch. Mechanics. Individual drills. Walkthroughs. Valuable to a coaching staff, over hyperbolized by media.

Welker exploded in his third year(112/1175/8) but that was 07 w Randy Moss on the other side.

I really don't get why Pop doesn't get more love around here. 1182 receiving yards in his first 2 years and he didn't really have much helping him out at QB (at least the first year and half) or his fellow WRs.

Pop Douglas is either going to learn how to block on the fly or from the bench. Going be interesting to see where Polk's games at in year two: he could be a decent player from the Slot.

Pop looks bigger he's definitely put on some weight this off season.. I think that definitely related to Josh telling him he's going to see alot of targets... same thing Wes Welker was told.. I see pop seeing to to 90 targets from the slot this season.

Welker was primarily a STs player his first few seasons in Miami. He lined up on offense sparingly and immediately showed his abilities. Often against us.

Welker was traded into a perfect situation with a championship team. Same with Jules and Amendola. Those guys all came to championship teams obviously with a GOAT QB. Brady put the ball only where the slot WR can get it. Welker is the best slot WR in the Patriots history and arguably in league history. Pop was drafted into much different circumstances than the others were.. Pop still has been Impressive for what he had to work with.. broke Mac Jones, Bailey bust, Brissett who can't throw 10 yards..

I don't think it's going to magically solve our issues at the top of the WR depth chart but we definitely have a deep group to choose from for WRs 2-5. And making sure we pick the right ones is going to be tough. It won't be a huge role but one or 2 of these guys will probably be playing on another team.

I agree. I like Boutte as you do as well. But I'm all for competition and I have trust in Josh and Vrabel in who they believe will best help the team long term. I suspect diggs, pop and Williams will be the guys who see the lionshare of targets at WR.

They certainly invested enough in Chism. They really wanted him.

That isn't really accurate at all. Danny Amendola had 85 catches his second year, Welker had 67. JE was behind Welker, and people seem to forget that in his rookie year he had to come in for Welker who was taken out for the season in the second to last game and led the team in receptions with 10 for 103 yards in the last game and then 6 in the playoff game against the Ravens.
