Which backup OL make the initial 53-man roster (sorry, no room for RLKAG)

I’m not sure why people keep putting Sow and Robinson at left guard? Strange is the best left guard on this team, and it’s not close. Strange will be the starting left guard, unless they can find a team willing to trade a decent left tackle for a starting left guard.

When I said yesterday that TyronSmith had retired and there was no one left at left tackle in free agency I was mistaken, Joseph Noteboom, who was the Rams starting left tackle before Alaric Jackson took the job while he was injured, is still available. He’s a much better tackle than Lowe is and they should bring him in and catapult Lowe out of Foxborough asap.

I voted for the 6 players who have an actual, legit reason to be considered candidates for the OL after the top 6 (with which I agree):

The Sow, Wallace, VD Low, Laydown, Brown & Dee Jacobs.

The rest? Straight Trash, homies. Utterly unworthy of being on even a 90-man pre-season roster.

Not to be negative, but do you exact any team with a decent tackle left tackle to trade Jim for Strange?

No. I think that almost half the NFL has drafted or signed starting left tackles over the past two years, and former starters are now back ups. So I think the Patriots should be looking at the option of trading a starting caliber guard ( Strange) to a team that needs a guard in exchange for a good back up left tackle to replace Lowe.

And FTR Bob, I don’t consider challenging an idea or assertion negative at all, it’s kind of the point of this messageboard.

Easiest prediction of any position group

Starters
Canpbell
Strange
Bradbury
Onwenu
Moses.

Backups
IOL Wilson Robinson
OT. Wallace Lowe

The rest are fitting forc practice squad spots.

FYI Lowe has played on the right. He sucked there too.
But Lowe has very long arms!

Lowe I agree. Sow is a mystery. Athletically Sow is very good, but he collapsed in Y2. Maybe it was an injury or maybe he has the Tin Man's lack of heart. We will see. Writing off Sow support as cultist acitivity is premature. You might be right or not, but I have a hard time judging a guy after a bad sophomore year following an injury.
Sow’s rookie year ranked very highly in the metrics not just among rookies but in rushing stats he was top 10. Definitely hoping the new coaches can get him back on track. Year 3 is pretty much make or break for him.

You would never think it how guys get by him so easily. I hear D Jacobs arms are much longer: again another enigma of how opposing Defenders get by them so easily.

2 points:

We label our mediocre player "back ups" yet "back ups" will play at some point due to injuries.

We also say " <<<Name a player>>> Sucks so trade him" - which team needs a bad player from the 4-13 Patriots????

Probably because arm length is irrelevant and skill, particularly agility, footwork, technique, football intelligence and strength are what matters to blocking well.

2 points back:

It’s not feasible to have starting quality back ups at many positions. But ideally they are a mix of young guys with upside and vets who are among the best backups (ie someone is the 33rd best qb and someone is the 64th)

Exactly. I think that thinking is left over from when we were better than everyone else and our bad guys had value to other teams. Remember last year we were grabbing guys off waiver wires or practices squads and making them starters. We were the team who needed the guy who was good enough for a good team.
