I think he's going to be a Gadget player for us.
I’m not sure what that means. I think he’s Rex Burkhead. What used to be known as a third down back.

He can play behind the QB or can flex outside to the slot and do both well. They have enough guys to compete at WR, they can actually use more RB depth behind Rhamondre, Gibson and Henderson… there’s nobody else behind those three.

Josh didn't sign him. Vrabel did (on Josh's advice). And, was Matthew Slater a "Fringe Player" as a core ST Player and Emergency WR? I didn't say he wouldn't make the team nor get reps at WR, but don't think for a second that they're planning on having him be one of our Top 3 (or even Top 4) WR's. Because if that happens, the Offense is humped. He had one or two decent seasons as a WR. Before that, he's been pretty much what I said he is.
This ^

Hollins is being entirely overrated here. I get it, he doesn’t wear shoes, he blocks well, his teammates love him.

If he is getting major snaps at WR something has gone terribly wrong or Josh is putting his favorites at the front of the line. People hated nepotism in the dynasty years, now it’s okay?

The Larison move was something I contemplated as well.
The fact that Larison is already being discussed regarding roles and usage just emphasizes what a great off-season the Pats have had.

Have the Pats ever had a UDFA who seems to be considered a roster lock by so many fans?

There's a lot about him to like.

I don't really consider him a lock, just looking at different possibilities.

Imagine this timeline: Diggs really is that ahead of schedule and has 2 years of borderline elite play left. Williams comes in and instantly looks the part of a #2 WR in the NFL. Polk after last season with this new coaching staff completely turns the page and lives up to his talent. Delivers on what he showed early in mini camp and camp last year. Chism really is Edelman 2,0. Not as talented but more ready and beats out Douglas for the slot spot week 1, living up to every hope we have for him. Hollins is every bit the settling Veteran presence in the background for this young room and a big body when we need while while holding it down for special teams. Pop is kept cause why not.... Probably want Chism insurance. And Boutte is traded for a nice pick.

On a side note. I know it is early, but I haven't seen any news about Maye Calling Hollins, Boutte, Douglas, Polk or Baker just to have an unofficial passing/receiving session. I know typically this isn't the kind of leadership/initiative you expect 2nd year QBs to show, but it would be nice to hear about. These are just the kind of things i enjoy hearing about.

Bourne has also done that in the past.

Time for somebody to step up.

Not sure I share your optimism on Polk, and while last year isn’t entirely on him, he will have a short leash this year to prove he belongs.

I agree with you that Pop does not have a lock on the slot, or even a guaranteed roster spot, although he would be traded rather than cut.

You MUST be where the QB expects you to be.

Like you and everyone else, I'm hoping the Offense is significantly better in every area this season (and beyond). That being said, we both know that Josh expects the WR's in his Offense's to be solid blockers. I have hopes that not only Henderson will be an absolute BEAST, but that he might prove himself to be a better RB (or at least more important to the Patriots), then both Jeanty and Hampton. He can play every down, but I doubt he'll be asked to (nor should he be). Williams has legit potential. Gibson wasn't used properly last season (but then the OL sucked even in Run-Blocking). If the OL is hopefully greatly improved and especially Will Campbell has just a solid rookie season at LT (and hopefully becomes a 6'6 Rashawn Slater who also has 33" long arms at 6'4 in seasons to come), then that alone will go a long way to the Offense being better this year and in the years ahead. Add all that, combined with Maye staying healthy, and I think the Offense has potential to be Top 5 or better within the next 3 seasons (assuming they continue to add young talent).
I look at JC Latham, who I liked more as a prospect than Campbell, Latham made the switch to LT his rookie year and did reasonably well. If Campbell can perform as Latham did last year (47 pressures allowed and 10 penalties), Lowe allowed 33 pressures with 13 penalties in about 300 less snaps than Latham.

we will be significantly better with Campbell and then you throw in McD's ability to help the OL when needed and ability to call up a good quick game. The entire OL has been improved, If the OL can just be average I really think we are going to have a top 15 offense.
A top 15 offense and what I expect to be a top 10 defense, we are going to make the playoffs as long as we are not hit to hard by injuries. I say this mostly because of the schedule because on paper its mot that tough.

It's not optimism. Just imaging a nice time line where everything comes together perfectly : ) It won't, but one can dream.

I think Chism makes it over Larison. Maybe both, we'll see. Both have pretty high guarantees for udfa's.

Hard to have passing sessions when you are learning a new offense.

Just means there was interest from other teams, the money is still peanuts to the team.

Normally I would agree with this but every offense will run basic routes, so they could work on that, but you're right about not knowing details of the specific route.

Looks like I voted for the same ones that most others did: Hollins, Booty Time & sloPolk. Hollins, because he was their first WR signing (though he absolutely ****ing Sucks as an actual, you know, receiver); Booty Time because he seems to do just enough to give them a reason to keep him; and sloPolk because he was their 2nd-round pick just a year ago. My next choice would've been the Chism Trail, but I know they're not keeping 7 this time around. Dawghouse Bourne gets dealt for cap savings & a pick; half-Baked gets ****-canned completely; and the rest? Straight Trash, homies. EACH of those bags of ****ing **** utterly unworthy of a place on even the 90-man pre-season roster.

Worst backup WRs in the Entire ****ing League. And the "starters" are no great shakes either.

25 first downs and 5 TDs on 31 receptions (50 targets) last year. Those are pretty damn good numbers. May not be a high volume receiver, but he blocks very well and gets you a first down pretty much every time he catches the ball.

I also saw somewhere that Hollins played more snaps than any other Buffalo receiver last year.
