Amazing the amount of f ups the Steelers have had at receiver. Antonio Brown, Chase Claypool, Dionte Johnson, and now George Pickens. That doesn't even include their run of the mill dimwits like Juju, Martavis Bryant, Santonio Holmes, and Plaxico Burress.

Yeah they've had some dimwits but at least they could catch the ball whereas our weak sisters... not so much

FWIW, it's a 2026 3 + 2027 5 for Pickens + 2027 6.

I get why Jerruh did it, but I'm fine with Vrabel passing on Pickens.

The idea that the Steelers know what they are doing and handle well head cases may by a little outdated, nothing that they are doing recently suggests they have any idea or direction.

I think their plan is to take guys and try 'em regardless of red flags, knowing if they are good enough, like Pickens, they can divest before rookie deal or a big contract is up. I don't think they have a method of dealing with them, beyond hoping the locker room will police itself.

I don't think so on the sweet contract. Think Jerry will keep him for this year and let him go elsewhere for a comp pick that is minimally different than the 3rd they gave up.

Every big-time college program has players that the coaches can't stand, but are so talented that you have to put them on the field. Pickens wasn't a criminal (like Odell Thurman) or a locker room cancer (like Jalen Carter, who Kirby Smart HATED), he was just a narcissist who constantly complained about his touches, regardless of team success.

A UGA insider (I live in Atlanta) told me an interesting story about Pickens. Big time donors get access to a certain number of open team practices. Pickens was hurt a lot when he was in Athens, so he missed a lot of practice time. Most donors who wanted to see a practice would only go when Pickens was there because he was so talented. I was told "he did things at practice that no UGA receiver had ever done." So, days when Pickens was practicing were way more crowded than days when he wasn't.

As you might expect, his teammates and coaches (for the most part) weren't very fond of him.

A fire sale is exactly what that team needs but they don’t have the guts to do it. Watt has a year left on his deal and still has value so itd be the ideal time to trade him before his production starts to sink, plus that would get them closer to a top 10 pick for next years draft which im hearing is good for qb. Theyre not contending this year anyway, seems like a pretty obvious play tbh yet i doubt they do it. they will probably give him a garrett like extension that will guarantee several more seasons of mediocrity. Maybe Tomlins non losing streak is too important.

I really think this is part of it, with Pop leaving the bench Tomlin is the longest tendered coach in American professional sports, I looked up when they last won a championship, and last got to the finals.

A 3rd compensatory pick will depend on Pickens contract, playing time and how many Dallas FA's lost and gained. Pickens just watched Pitt give Metcalf a contract with 80 mil in guarantees and 60 mil fully guaranteed due at signing.

I find it hard to fathom that Pickens will not be looking to cash in and if Jerry tries to screw him, Pickens just wont show up.

That 3rd pick the Boys spent has value if the 2026 draft is as good as people are claiming.

Crazy that out of all those talented receivers, the best return they got was a 2nd round pick for Claypool because they were all such headcases. I know a lot of Pittsburgh fans want to move on, but I wonder when Tomlin does get fired/retire. They seem to be in the spot we were for a few years (before we bottomed out in 2023) where the franchise quarterback left and the coach was good enough to stay around .500 with a bad team. Pittsburgh just seems content to keep treading water, but they could have their 2023-esque season this year with no QB. They’re in a weird spot because they just traded and paid a new receiver but don't have a guy to throw him the ball. They’re also having a bunch of highly paid stars (Watt, Fitzpatrick, Heyward) that are aging and will want to be paid one more time. If I were a fan of the Steelers, I would hope they have a fire sale at the deadline if they’re a bad team, but it seems ownership isn't ready to pull the plug.

A proud franchise at the mercy of Aaron ****in' Rogers. Kind of sad in a way, but as an old school Pats fan, I wish them nothing but the worst.
