Do you want Will Campbell at 4 assuming Hunter and Carter are off the board?

LFG!

The big advantage of taking a LT at 4 is it unlocks 3 other picks that could be contributors or even starters. Taking a edge guy mean the patriots must trade up and that carries its own risks.

I agree with all that.

I just don't equate Campbell with LT.

My big takeaway is that Vrabel went on record saying he wanted to trade down from #4 but received NO OFFERS. I don’t think Campbell was worth that high a pick and seemingly neither did they, but that’s the pick they had. Abstract value doesn’t always translate to situational reality.

It’s a logical pick. They had a gaping hole in the starting lineup and Campbell was arguably the readiest prospect. I wish they had been a better option, but I’ll console myself that at least this wasn’t the year they needed a QB!

Not sure the Pats had any other choice, he was labelled the best LT in the draft by most prognosticators. He only gave up 5 sacks in 3 years playing LT in the tough SEC.
As much as this is not a sexy pick, it is need pick which should keep Drake Maye perpendicular to the playing surface..

Who fell to 32. What does that tell you?
When Houston passed on him that spoke volumes to me. If they wouldn’t have drafted Campbell I might of been interested in jumping ahead of KC. Happy for him though. He made it into the first round. Earlier and later than some expected.

The fact that Harbaugh passed on Will Johnson speaks novels then.

Very true. Guy was predicted 7th before the combine. What happened with Will Johnson? Undisclosed injury?

Which Harbaugh are you referring?

Someone has to be picked 4th overall. If no one is worth it, they're all worth it. Teams have their board stacked. There may he a break after the first 2, and it may include 10 names. If you can trade down 5 spots and still get one of those 10, it makes all the sense in the world.

Making a pick at 4, tells you who the Patriots had ranked at the top of their board at the time of the pick. Meaning at worst, they thought he was the 4th best player in the draft. That makes him absolutely worth the pick.

Logical at times is the best pick. People just don't like logical. Had they taken Campbell over Carter, given team need, it was logical. But it wouldnt have been the best pick. In this case, logical was absolutely the best pick.

People like it when logical lines up with value and excitement, as last year with Maye. It's a buzzkill when you can't be psyched about a #4 overall pick.

But I can accept that the only thing worse than choosing Campbell at #4 would have been not choosing Campbell at #4.

Well, no one could break the 4 minute mile, or travel to the moon. Just maybe Will Campbell can block opposing pass rushers. Give him a chance.

It clearly lined up with value. The Patriots LOVED him. He was clearly at the top of their board.

Very few get excited about an offensive linemen. I'm not "excited" about landing Campbell. I dont need to be excited to realize the value a left tackle has on a football team. McMillan would've been more "exciting." That doesn't make it a better pick. Thats the nature of a linemen. If you hear his name, he did something wrong. It's not "exciting" because you're not watching him make big plays. But he's instrumental in those big plays being made.

You know who I bet is excited? Drake Maye. He won't have to be running for his life in every snap.

I'm happy Vrabel isn't worried about "buzzkill." Hes worried about getting great football players that improve the Patriots. And nobody does that more than Campbell.

Same as Mister Taggert, I too am depressed that there are 45 f-f-****ing MORONS on this board who actually voted for Robert Gallery Junior at #4… What the **** is the matter with you ****ing people? Why don’t you 45 ****ing idiots try using INDEPENDENT ****ING THOUGHT FOR A ****ING CHANGE, instead of being spoon-fed the LIES from One Patriots Place?

Betcha these same 45 compliant ******s wore masks while driving alone in their EVs during the Chi-Com Sniffles…

we're up to 47 ****ing ******s now... To quote JD Clampett: Pitiful; PIT-TEE-FULL.
