Draft day 2: reset

Pats have too much money allocated there and they can't hoard at that position when the team has many needs. They need to cool it until the 3rd round at the earliest.

Doctors are human and make mistakes. There are cases were they messed up. Some off the top of my head were Trent Williams in Washington. JC Jackson was cleared from surgery in the same time frame Mac Jones was cleared for an ankle sprain. Sanu regretted coming back as early as he did after his ankle injury (more of his decision to return as he felt pressure from being traded for a 2nd round pick). Barmore seemed to have come back way too early. I'm actually quite shocked he came back as soon as he did. In fact, the video of when he got pulled over for the arrest had the woman in the car telling the cops that he was on blood thinners. I was saying when it happened he wasn't coming back. He played soon after. Posters here that are in the medical field agreed that Barmore shouldn't have been playing. And a reminder, David Andrews sat out the season when he had it.
Too much money? We are talking about a draft pick for cheap dollars. Not another FA signing.

Williams and Barmore have a lot of money invested into the position. Both making over $20M per year. The Pats need to use their resources on positions of need. Using a 2nd round pick on a DT wouldn't be wise.

WR's in the Second in this Order please: Kyle Williams - Jaylin Noel - Jack Bech or Tre Harris.
I want 2 of these Burden Noel, Higgins, Felton, Royals.
I’m intrigued by what Williams could potentially do.
Not a Williams fan.

Royals is my binkie.

He can also play corner, he can also play linebacker. I would assume he'd start at free safety right away.
Given he is a freak athlete, I don't doubt that he could play any of those positions. It would be a shame to start him at FS though given he is so good close to the line, covering TEs, and tackling. He is at his best playing SS. Xavier Watts (Notre Dame) is probably the best pure FS remaining, and maybe Andrew Mukuba (Texas) but I wouldn't want him at 38.

I wouldn’t mind seeing a WR double dip today. Get a bigger bodies outside receiver like Higgins, Bech or Harris and a speed guy like Noel or Williams.

I am hopeful the anticipated run on Edge and WR plays to New England's advantage and keeps Trapilo on the board for 77

If I remember Correctly you wanted them to trade out of 3 instead of taking Maye.
You have excellent recall, but you didn't include the context of the trade. It was for three 1st round picks and to pick JJ McCarthy with the Minnesota 1st round pick. In hindsight Maye worked out better, but McCarthy was playing pretty well until he got injured. That would have been an offer too good to refuse.

If Barmore isn’t healthy it’s a huge need. If he is a 4 man rotation at the 3 IDL spots with Williams Barmore White and a pick would be great, and that pick would deliver starter value. DTs don’t play every down.

Fair enough, I didn’t remember the details of the trade, but I was a Maye Nazi and didn’t want them taking any chances on missing out on him.

My Current Board

Trade up - No one - I was on the fence about trading up... but at this point when i considering everything (particularly on Mike Green). I figured let it play out.

#1 Mike Green - Edge Yes the allegations are troubling... but not even arrested or charged. For now i will give the benefit of a doubt. We want high character guys, but we need talent too. And we just don't have enough. I was perhaps a bit too willing to look past red flags in the heat of things after last night. Now i'm fine letting the chips fall. But if he is there. I think he has to be the guy.
#2 Will Johnson - CB/s - Maybe he needs to move to safety... IDC.. I saw his tape. If his injury is okay (which scouts this it is... they think he ducked the 40 yard dash) then I'm all for taking him. To me him at safety is probably better than Nick Emmanwori.
#3 Tre Harris - WR - Went back and forth on it a bit. 11th hour... Harris is my guy. Doesn't have the ceiling of Burden, but his floor seems enticingly high. I think he comes in year 1 and becomes a very good #2. Maybe more. He just has so much to love about his game and potential.
#4 Jayden Higgins - WR I like Higgins... Bur unlike the guys above... he is the guy who should be at 38. Not the guy who falls there. He has a lot of good things, but he lacks that extra thing to make him pop. He has height though, which i think is often over stated. Being 6'4 is great, but as long as you're not 5'9 i don't care much... pass the 6 or more threshold and i'm looking at other things. It should be noted while I'm not pounding the table for him, the fact I am putting him here means i believe there is seperatation between him and guys like Bond, Noel, Bech, whoever.
#5 Nick Emmanwori - S - I know some people absolutely pound the table for this guy. And i get why. But safety isn't as big a need as others. And i don't feel the need to take it over greater needs for a guy who fell 15 spots lower than he should have. If he was ranked higher from the start, that would be something. And i know some people ranked him in the top 10.. IDK if his tape shows that though... his meassurables are elite though. So i guess we can't pass on him.
(Anyone else and trade down)

Trade Down targets

Mild trade down 40-50 overall (no order)

Luther Burden - WR - I was super high on him till i heard character issue rumors. I knew he was raw and would need to learn the finer parts of being a WR. I was okay with that, cause his movement is electric. He has the 2nd highest ceiling in this draft and highest at WR. But with those things combined... now i need to trade down to justify it.
Donovan Ezeiruaku - DE - I liked him when he was a 3rd rounder by most people. Still do now. But not as much at 38... to me he is a trade down target.

Bigger trade down 51+

Henderson - RB - I am not against picking an RB in the 2nd as much as i am in the first, but this guy can't catch and can't carry the load. He is a change of pace back. Valueable
Fannin - TE - I've said before and will say again.. I have the feeling Fannin will be the best TE to come out of this draft... he will probably be higher on some board than we think. I am all for him here as I really want to get him. He plays more like a WR than TE, which is fine by me.
Jonah Savaiinaea - OT/OG - Listed as an OT by many, but clearly is going OG in the NFL and the only guard I like in round 2... The others may be round 2 prospects, but i want a guy who stands out in some way. The top guys are gone, i think this is the best of the next bunch.

I think i'm good with this board going into day 2 for round 2.... not going deeper cause who knows what will happen.

I am not advocating they take him at #38. I am advocating that if they've determined he's a day 1 starter, then I want them to trade back in to R2 before the Eagles at #64 and get him. If they feel he's that guy, then the line suddenly goes from suspect to pretty freakin' good. I am on board with Campbell, Trapilo, Bradbury, Onwenu and Moses, with Strange and maybe Drew Kendall or Jake Majors late day 3 picks.

Day 3.
Trapilo wouldn’t be an upgrade over strange.

Albert Breer said that Green had zero 30 Visits to any team. He has two sexual assault allegations against him. One was in High School and the other was at the University of Virginia which led to his dismissal from the team and transfer to Marshall. These are allegations that Green denies, and he was never charged in either case.
If I were drafting a defensive rusher, I'd want someone who's a borderline psycho. Other positions I'd steer clear.

I will admit that I wasn't a big fan of Maye because of his limited playing time in college and never having taken a snap under Center. I have said this many times if AVP and TC McCartney did anything well it was correcting the flaws that Maye had coming out of college. I don't know if you have seen the chart that Ian Logue put together. It outlines how many different Offensive Line combinations the Patriots had last year. It was remarkable how Maye was able to succeed at all. I am optimistic for Maye in year 2.

My thought is this, we got the tackle, so we can go bpa at 38 because we still need real talent on the team.

Emmanwori is a top 10 talent still on the board (and I would have defended it if they had taken him with 4). If he's there, it's a no brainer, because he can do so many things.

Would fit the short arms theme:

At 6’3” and 248-251 pounds with 32-inch arms (8th percentile for edge rushers), Green lacks ideal size and length for an NFL edge defender. His lean frame raises concerns about his ability to hold up against NFL offensive tackles, who often outweigh him by 50-80 pounds.

This fetish for interior OL when we have a zillion of them and big holes everywhere else makes me scratch my head.

GUARDS/CENTERS: Strange, Onwenu, Robinson, Sow, Bradbury, Andrews, Wallace, Schweitzer, Ben Brown, Cotton. 10 guys for 3 spots, and a bunch more picks we've already cut: Mafi, Hines, etc. And when you realize we're going to have to carry 2 swing backup tackles, this leaves 2 spots for backup OL.

Here we are without a free safety, no 4-3 Edge Rusher, a big need for a big body DT, youth at TE, not to mention WRs, and we're doing what?

Drafting interior OL?
In addition to the leftovers from last year, the team need to account for the fact that they may have drafted their guard of the future. No need to invest more in the interior OL given the other holes in the lineup.

Trapilo wouldn’t be an upgrade over strange.
Neither of us know if he is or isn't. They 100% do, however, one way or the other. If he's not an upgrade, to your point, then they likely won't draft him. If he is, then they will likely try to get him.
