Draft day 2: reset

The CB from Michigan. Why is that guy still available ? There was buzz. If he ends up being a star, teams will regret passing on him. And if he’s as good as some suggested before the draft, I’d love to see NE grab him early tonight.
injuries seem chronic apparently, heard that last night i think

imo I wouldnt trade anything to move up. The board went flat after around pick 18-20. 20-45/50 are pretty much the same across the board. In a good draft year, the majority of these players that are still on the board would be drafted in the third round or later. If anything, I’m shocked that Will Johnson fell to where he did. Barron was always my CB1, especially, if placed in to our defense. But I think the biggest impact player you could get at 38 would be Johnson.

Add him and Mr Kraft could easily label this secondary as the “iron dome”

We all know he’d love that!

Mike Green complements White, Barmore & Williams well. He’d also allow more interior snaps for White.

TreVeyon Henderson is one of the best playmakers in the draft & would be their most dynamic RB in awhile.

Luther Burden was a top 5 pick before the 2024 season & has the upside to be a WR1.

I hope they go BPA & select one of the first round talents available despite their question marks.

It's a long day so why not entertain some trade ideas? Is there anyone who was maybe made expendable after round 1 that could make for a fun morning/afternoon?

Bucs probably have an extra receiver but the vets chose to stay and McMillan is only in year 2 so not sure they'd move anyone.

Hendrickson maybe after Cincy got Shemar Stewart he was supposedly on the block already.

Who else could be on the block now?

BPA the rest of the way for me. Another QB since we have Maye is probably the only position on this team where there isn’t a clear and obvious path for a player we draft to be a starter over his rookie contract based on the guys we have and their level of play/age/contract status.

In that case : I’m out. While some lament WC, he’s been available and healthy. Doesn’t mean he’s never going to get hurt - but the dynasty could afford to take flyers on upside injury prone players, I don’t feel that way about this squad.

Kyle Williams/birden or judkins/henderson or ot from BC
Hoping we get one of these 5

Mike Green
Nic Scourton
TreVeyon Henderson *
Jaylin Noel
Jayden Higgins
Jack Bech
Quinshon Judkins
Donovon Ezeirruaku
Tre Harris
Aireontae Ersery

I’d be happy with any one of these names at 38. Especially Henderson.
...

I agree about Henderson. I watched some tape and he has a dynamic acceleration. I just hope that the Patriots don't draft another big slow contested catch WR, ugh.

-#38 DE Mike Green
-Then trade back up to get WR Noel or Higgins

Edge and wr are biggest needs.

Usually, fallers like Green become great picks. However, do you pick a guy with 2 sexual assault allegations, 1 in high school and 1 in college when you're trying to build a program and character is probably a little more important at the start of the rebuild?

Henderson might still be there at RB. Great pass catcher and hasn’t fumbled in three years but likely not a 3 down back. Having a great 3rd down back would be very beneficial to Drake though.

At WR Burden and Higgins will probably be gone unless you trade up
Leaves Harris, Noel, Royals,
Probably best value on those guys is to to try to trade back up for 1 of them but if you believe in one of those just take him at 38.

I think one of those names above is likely the pick.

i think it is fair to assume that if the pats want another OT pick such as Ersery or Trapilo, they can not wait until their pick in the 3rd rd

I think Mike Green will be off their board for obvious reasons. Luther Burden too. Will Johnson is an interesting faller but we don’t have a need at CB and apparently he is better in a heavy zone scheme given his speed and tackling issues. I just don’t think he fits what we want.

I also think this pick will either be a pass rusher or offensive playmaker. But I guess I wouldn’t rule out a guard.

My short list for 38 is:

Donovan Ezeiruaku
Treveyon Henderson
Nic Scourton
Jaylin Noel

My preference would be to take Henderson if he is there or trade down 10 spots or so. Henderson would legitimately give us someone a defense has to account for which I don’t think the receivers left do. However, there are plenty of good players left that don’t fit what we need who will likely go in the 35-45 range. Think we could still get Noel or Higgins at 45-50 so picking up a pick would be really valuable. Wonder if Denver would like to come up from 50.

if henderson is not a third down back i think it would be a waste to select him here on day 2 with so many good players on premium positions available and a deep RB class.

You could select a WR here at 38 or with a small trade up and use those two third rounders to move back in the second rd for Trapilo or a different player you believe can be a starter (Milum at LG, Wilson at C, Watts at S, Alexander at DT).

Nick Emmanawori. Dude is gonna be a game changer. I know you guys all want WRs, me too. I thought he’d go R1. Can’t pass if he’s there at 38.

Scourton too. Gonna be interesting.

Now that the LT issue is......addressed(?), we should revert to "pick the best player mode," but with an emphasis - a strong one, given how many defensive assets have already been acquired - on offense. Aside from QB, perhaps, we are weak at nearly every position on that side of the ball, which means that in choosing the best player we will nearly inevitably be filling an "area of need."

The draft is a crap shoot every year, maybe this year even a little more so than usual, so you make your best guess and see what happens. To be honest, I'm not expecting much, and any idea that this team will be an actually relevant contender for a post-season berth next year is silly. This team has been run like crap - coached and GM'd - for at least a half decade, maybe a full decade. There's a lot of damage to be undone still, and a weak draft hasn't helped.

Henderson could be our Jahmyr Gibbs. He isn’t a 3 down bell cow but neither is Gibbs. Get him 10-12 rushes and 4 catches a game.

Sounds like Vrabel wants us to run the ball. Helps Drake on 3rd down - in pass protection and catching the ball.

This fetish for interior OL when we have a zillion of them and big holes everywhere else makes me scratch my head.

GUARDS/CENTERS: Strange, Onwenu, Robinson, Sow, Bradbury, Andrews, Wallace, Schweitzer, Ben Brown, Cotton. 10 guys for 3 spots, and a bunch more picks we've already cut: Mafi, Hines, etc. And when you realize we're going to have to carry 2 swing backup tackles, this leaves 2 spots for backup OL.

Here we are without a free safety, no 4-3 Edge Rusher, a big need for a big body DT, youth at TE, not to mention WRs, and we're doing what?

Drafting interior OL?

We only have one 2nd round pick.

We have two 3rd rounders.

I'd go for the best WR at #38 before a run on them starts and we don't have the choice of our favorite of the remaining prospects.

Of these I like Tre Harris, Kyle Williams, Jayden Higgins, or Jalen Royals.

I'm really wondering why Burden fell so far out of the 1st. Most likely he will be gone before our pick after teams restack for day 2.

Burden would have been a first round pick if his 24’ season had matched his 23’ season, but it didn’t. And the knock that was put on him was that he played like like he didn’t care. In the Alabama game he simply gave up, according to the guys I listen to, and it cost him. I don’t want him at all, because I don’t want players who give up on their team when things don’t go their way.

There were questions about his speed and he essentially refused to address them, and it cost him.
