Campbell can certainly be an OK transition at LT for a year. That is worst case. After all, the other choice is Lowe. The best case is that we have our LT for the next 10 years.

We will be better able to judge our needs next year with Campbell on board, actually giving us flexibility. Going into free agency next year, we will need help on the OL. I can't predict where. No one else can predict where the help will be needed.

Strange may or may not be on the team. If he is, he may be our center.

Others might step up at center or guard.

Unless we are sold on Banks or Connerly, Campbell seems to be no-brainer. Obviously, we would prefer to draft him at 6; later doesn't seem possible.

Getting a league-average LT at #4 would be a roster upgrade but would also be not maximizing the value of that draft position.

I prefer a trade down into 8-15 to get an additional pick or two.

You know what won't be terrible? When this draft has come and gone and the 24/7 Campbell threads quit multiplying like rabbits.
THAT will not be terrible

Honestly, every permutation of the Campbell discussion has been beaten to death and then some. This 'but wait there's more' **** has risen more than Dracula and Freddy Krueger combined ffs

If he’s Light or Solder : it’s a win. If he can’t beat out the roster guys ? Oof.

Kinda sucks to have a high pick in one the weakest Top Half's of a Draft ever ever. Look at the 2021 Top half of the Draft compared to this year.

If that's indeed what they do, starting Lowe to begin 2025 is probably the likely scenario, and putting Campbell in by Week 3 might be a little more realistic, if that's how it plays out.

Honestly, I think Lowe is more or less a roster lock either way since he's proven he can step in as a backup and start a game or two if whoever goes down. I know I've been a little tough on him, but as I've said, I also don't hate having him on the team in that role. I'm just not fond of him starting another 17 games.

He's good for what he is, a guy who can fill in on either side if someone gets hurt for a couple of weeks. You just don't want him out there for a long stretch of games, especially against elite opponents.

I still think they may take more than one tackle this weekend, which wouldn't be a bad thing. Definitely need some additional quality depth with that group, and as you said, another interior lineman (or two) as well.

It's about time someone brought that up...

Its going to be fascinating how our O-line shapes up this year. So many questions and so many players that need to prove something.

Strange
Wallace
Robinson
Sow

The only thing even remotely approaching a coherent thought in this post is the “no-brainer” part: because Anyone who wants to USE the #4 overall pick in the First ****ing Place; then ****ing WASTE IT on Stumpy in the Second ****ing Place, simply has No ****ing Brain.

IDK if Vedarian Lowe is starting any game over Will Campbell then we made a big mistake in the draft. From everything we’ve been told Campbell is NFL ready, he kicked ass against SEC players.

At #4 he should be expected to be starting straightaway and at minimum a solid LT in his first season.

Well remember how we all thought the Cole Strange pick was a waste of a first round pick?

Oh, that's right, it was.

Yes, the Pats need a tackle, but what they really need is talent, exceptional talent that has to be accounted for. They lack that completely at pretty much every position. I was hoping they could have snagged Travis Hunter, but it looks like the league has come to their sense and he will be long gone by 4. I would trade down, maybe target Mykall Williams from Goergia around 10. He played last year on one leg, and would have been a top 4 pick if healthy.

Yes. The #4 overall pick needs to be a day 1 starter, throughout the duration of his contract. Anything else is a bust.

This isn't Mayo's "Let's not give a RT in Caedan Wallace all the reps at RT since he was drafted" Patriots. This is Vrabel's "If we draft LT Will Campbell, he's getting all the reps at LT since we drafted him" Patriots.

Freaking Mayo is going to be smiling somewhere when Hunter and Carter comes off the Board before our pick. I hope he chokes on his beer Jerod Mayo!!!

if the idea is that he is just going to be adequate, why not address the position with our second round pick or trade for a late first.

I want an impact player or trade down.

We shouldn't be taking a player at #4 we're calling a "transition" player. If they don't feel with absolute conviction that he's a viable long term starting LT with at least a "good" level of play, he shouldn't even be in the discussion.

This is getting interesting watching J Dart gives me goosebumps he's a really fine player. Penix Jr went Eight overall last year and JJ McCarthy went Top 10. Bo Nix went #12 Dart > than all of them.

If the Pats take Campbell at 4, they don't view him as a transitional player at LT. They are all in at LT. If Campbell ends up at LG, it is still a serious hole in our o-line that is filled. All these whiners who want a great line but don't want to spend anything for it are ridiculous. This draft has its own uniqueness. There is no disagreement that Campbell is the best lineman in the draft. He fills needs for us. It is not a waste or problem given the o-line talent for this draft.

The fools who cite Thuney in the Superbowl as evidence Campbell will intentionally ignore the playoff wins KC had to even make the SB while Thuney was at LT. He started at left tackle from Week 15 through Super Bowl LIX, and while not perfect, he provided much-needed stability. He was good against the Dolphins, Bills, and Ravens in the Playoffs.
