no Mason Graham was the consensus BPA and that hasn't changed for me. Membou is closer to BPA than Campbell so if we were stuck it being that side of the ball because we addressed DT in FA then I'd be happy with Membou.
I know of three consensus big boards. Two have Jeanty higher than Graham. So the consensus of the consensus boards is that Jeanty is BPA.

As for Campbell v Membou, two of the consensus big boards have Campbell over Membou. Not only that, both Brugler and Jeremiah have Campbell over Membou and Jeanty over Graham.

If you’re talking about your personal big boards, that’s fine but let’s acknowledge there is no such thing as a consensus BPA when prospects are in the same tier.

Everyone we would be considering at 4 has warts - either positon, skills, medical, injury.

Campbell - short arms, might be a guard
Membou - never played left tackle. Might also be a guard.
Jeanty - great player but RB is a luxury pick.
Graham - short arms, limited physical traits.
Walker - tweener with no clear position. Only one year college producer.
Warren - positional value and ceiling questions Some have Loveland higher.
Simmons - serious injury concerns. Also questions about level of competition.
McMillan - speed and athleticism issues. Concerns about love of the game.
Williams - production doesn’t match physical traits
Stewart - production doesn’t match physical traits.

Given all this, you may as well take i) the position of greatest need , and ii) someone with as few risks/flags as possible. Campbell by all accounts is a great prospect in every way bar his arm length. That might of course be his downfall but the alternatives don’t look super enticing either. I’ve been on board the Walker train but it leave us in desperation mode finding a left tackle.
This is good. The risk manager in me approves wholeheartedly.

I know most of you are opposed to taking a guard at 4. However, we’ve seen a comp to Zack Martin for Campbell today. Obviously that’s the highest of highest comps but for the sake of argument if Campbell ended up spending his entire career at guard and his level of play came within the ballpark of Zack Martin - there have been plenty who have said he projects as an all-pro if moved to guard - would you still consider it a waste of the 4th overall pick?

Good post, Zim. I don't see Campbell failing in the NFL, even if he needs to be kicked inside. For my money, it's Campbell, Jeanty or Warren, assuming no trade back option is available. The problem with taking Jeanty or Warren, you've gotta find an answer for LT on Friday. No guarantees. If you take Campbell, you can go WR at #38 and then try to parlay #69 and #77 to get Ozzy for insurance.

The objective is to build the best possible long term team, not plug holes or draft a LT. If the Pats like Campbell that is fine, but if not, we will not fill all the holes in one year. We are not winning the SB this year.

I don’t see warren as good as bowers last year, i wouldn’t touch him top 5 or top 10… I would get on board with Jeanty if they trade down a bit and secure a draft pick to trade up to 19/21 for Conerly

Sounds easy when you think it.

I mean if the Jets really want an OT at 4 maybe you can make a deal I don’t know
I am not sure about the raiders selecting jeanty they really need some defense trot that division and their o line wasn’t a great run blocking unit at all. I think you can easily find a trade up partner between picks 19-25 in the first rd this year

The two are not mutually exclusive IMO. You need a LT better than Lowe, long term. Campbell is LT, whether or not he's a guard or not in the NFL isn't really the issue. He's on the list of top OL with Banks, Simmons, Conerly and Ersery, and maybe further down the list, you've got Grant and Trapilo. It just depends on who they have ranked at #4 on the big board. I am with you on BPA, but there's no glaring BPA at #4 under most scenarios. They gotta be ready to pick someone.

What we can be assured of is that there gonna be people pissed no matter what they do, because there's no consensus blue chipper who's gonna be at #4.

I dunno about you, but I expect a GDT type of thread Thursday night that's gonna be brutal. I am really going to try holding out on passing judgement until the draft is done and we can see what it looks like as a whole. No sense being pissed off they don't take a LT in R1 if they get Trapilo and Grant later on on day 2 and/or day 3. (prob not day 3, LT is gonna get over-drafted)

What I have been saying all off-season is there's no guarantee they can trade down and no guarantee there's a ransom to be paid even if they do find a dance partner. We saw last year, there's no guarantee they can get back in at 19-20 range to get their guy, either. If they can find a trade partner and drop, then they gotta be ready to pick at that spot, and they gotta be ready to then get their guy at #38. If they can get back in R1, awesome, but too many of us just wave a wand and say just trade back in. Ain't that easy to move up and down the draft.

I agree with all of that.

I fully agree
I have a vacation day and will follow the draft live as it starts around 1am here, I will try to look in the draft day thread , it will be fun I think depending on the pick I remember the cole strange pick that was something special, but you are right it makes only sense to post your draft reaction after the draft is fully complete

I just hope that due to the fact of prospects being relatively equal valued that more teams are willing to trade down

There's a lot of links for Jeanty to the Jaguars. That's what we need, along with a team falling in love with him.

It was great to be eighteen in. I went back about ten years ago and it had changed for the worse - corporate globalism is changing the character of cities everywhere. I was in Berlin when the wall was up in the 70s. Talk about living through history.
