First Meaningless 2025 Mock

I tried something different this time. I used @manxman2601 visit list and took guys they have had contact with. I traded #77 and next year's R2 (ugh) to Houston to get back in to R2 to get Ozzy, but now the OL is pretty much sound with these picks plus Majors at #177. I was surprised Princely was there at #69, so that was nice. Pat Bryant at #106 was a reach, but he was the only WR available on the list of meetings. Sampson was best RB available and he matched up with the value and the slot. Majors was a planned pick all along at #171, so that worked, McWilliams and Griffith were ranked lower and were probably gong to be available as UDFA, but I gave myself the task of taking guys they met with, so I picked them.

It was more work than I thought, as opposed to going "ooo I like this guy *click*". This will be one to look back on and see how close I got.
I really like that and could certainly see those first three picks happening. I wanted to put Trapilo in mine but couldn't manage it. If we go WR at 38, I do think Sampson could be the pick in the 3rd but there's no way he lasts to 144. As for Pat Bryant, I love his film. He's not fast which will hold him back but I really like players that just do everything right.

I'm not familiar with Bryant, Sampson, McWilliams or Griffith, beyond what you've posted here. I thought the 2026 R2 was pricey, but for this exercise, it really didn't matter, because I think if they have decided the want Ozzy (and I believe they've already made that decision one way or the other) then they'll reach for him to be sure they get him. I thought it was more important to run the sim as I could, and getting back into R2 for a OT, specifically Ozzy is certainly something I think they'll do. I would have liked to get Kyle Williams instead of Bryant, but missed him, and Princely was a fine consolation.

That's the thing with R2-3 and 4. Someone is going to drop and you'll get a good player when you would have thought he'd be gone.

Regarding Pat Bryant he looks so good on film very well rounded. That 4.61 40 time makes you wonder: but I remember Anquan Bolden didn't run well and went on to have a excellent playing career. WR Ricky White improved his 40 at his Pro Day he's another one who plays a heck of a lot faster than his 40 time. I wouldn't mind either in a double dip scenario.

Here you go @State. I gave myself the rule that the pick had to be "realistic". No taking some kid ranked 170 at #77. I think it could be done. I had to trade back to 18 to get Simmons in a reasonable slot, I wasn't taking him at #4. then I said I couldn't just load up on Ohio State guys, I needed to take guys that are kind of positions of need, so no Will Howard and Judkins after already taking Henderson.

Started this one on PFN last night using their 4/16 update but didn't finish until earlier this afternoon:

13. Kelvin Banks Jr. OT Texas - Didn't acquire as many high picks for next year because I stopped my trading-down right here

36. TreVeyon Henderson RB Ohio State - if I didn't already have 48 I would've taken Higgins

48. Jayden Higgins WR Iowa State

69. Alfred Collins DT Texas - too good to pass-up, and I had the extra picks to afford it, which I would NOT have had if I didn't trade down

77. Jack Bech WR TCU
88. Elijah Arroyo TE Miami (FL)
106. Anthony Belton OT NC State - Weppunz & LTackles... LTackles & Weppunz...

126. Jack Sawyer EDGE Ohio State - he's up to #130 overall now
150. Que Robinson EDGE Alabama - a bit of a real-life over-draft IMO, but I made-up for it by sand-bagging Sawyer & especially Barryn Sorrell ... Que-Ball might be able to take snaps standing-up as well when considering that he came to Alabama as a HS Safety...

155. Zah Frazier CB UTSA
171. Caleb Ransaw CB Tulane - two big-time ath-a-letes; maybe there's a future starting FS between them...

194. Willie Lampkin OG North Carolina

220. Caleb Rogers OT Texas Tech
224. Barryn Sorrell EDGE Texas
239. Chimere Dike WR Florida - all 3 of these dudes might be chosen at least 2 full rounds Higher than I did here!

2026 MIA 2nd
2026 MIA 3rd
2026 MIA 4th
2026 JAX 5th
2026 NYG 7th

@One-If-By-Sea Here's what it could look like with a trade back to #11. I took BPA in Walker, then missed all six of those top LTs we've been talking about. Took Noel, relying on they like him after the meetings. Grabbed Ozzy, Swinson BPA and Grant, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was gone in the real thing at #75. Mukuba fixes the safety position, Restrepo was best WR, Harvey was a reach but I went with the meetings thing again, same with McCord. Then I finished up with Allen that everyone likes late and then Kendall, again with the intel from Billy O and Scar factoring in to the decision.

Great job. Well done. I think that Grant will go a lot earlier. Wallace was the 68th pick so I highly doubt Grant will go later than Wallace. I said I saw Grant going to the Chiefs in a mock draft, but now I am wondering if it was Kenneth not Charles - LOL. Too many mocks so I might have lost track. Either way Trapilo about 43 seems about right, but C Grant at 75 seems too low to me. This probably will not track with BPA, but it looks like we will have to overdraft the tackles.

I'm 100% on the LT over-draft train. There's gonna be a run a some point and teams will panic buy. Better to get your guy early and just get it over with IMO.

I agree. It opens up the rest of the draft to go where you want. And no stress at the end of day one or beginning of day two about trades. I also don’t know what there is to gain by not taking a LT at 4. If you trade down, you’ll only have to give a pick back to trade up and if you take Walker at 4, while you’re getting a prospect with clear talent, as an undersized tweeter, he’s no less a risk than Campbell or Membou.

Are you in the LT or bust camp or is this provided Hunter and Carter are off the board?

I think my exercise shows that if you want to trade back to get more players, it's better to take your OT with the first trade back. There's no guarantee you can parlay back into R1 without paying a tax, and then you run the risk of not getting your guy at all by the time #38 rolls back. At #11, Warren was gone, too. There was no sure fire TD scorer at that point, Tet and Jeanty were also gone. I could have had Simmons with his question marks or Banks, who's also not a lock down sure fire guy, either. I found it interesting that all six of the "usual suspects" were gone at #38 on the first time I ran this scenario. I know I have been on board the Ozzy crazy train (pun intended) for a while, but he's not a sure thing, either, otherwise he'd be getting R1 looks as well.

Thursday and Friday is going to be interesting. I am really looking forward to it, now that there's "adults" in charge with something to prove. No clueless first time coaches or aging legends stuck in their ways. I really think the first two nights will be entertaining.

The trade up from 38 will be really complicated by the emerging competition from several teams in the 33-40 range to get up for a QB. Sounds like Dart, Milroe, Sanders could all go in the late first. Means we will have to outbid those teams to go up for a non-QB.

It also might mean a good player might get pushed down to us at 38 anyway.

Let’s not overthink it. Campbell will be the pick.

Yeah the real test of their draft comes at 38. They could have some sweet options at the DL.

WR, DL, interior OL and the pick of the speed RBs. Hard to go wrong at 38 if you get a LT @4.

Oh they could go wrong lol that's why I said DL. It's highly unlikely that Hampton or Loveland falls so I didn't mention TE or RB. It's unlikely that Burden or Egbuka falls either.

So draft Noel, Williams or Henderson and add some much needed speed to the offense. If you can do that and trade back from 38, even better.

The only positional picks I wouldn’t want to see would be Ot, LB or CB.

I've tried it a couple of times now and I agree with you: I don't understand the grading either.

Another beef with it is that the results of trades involving 2026 draft picks that you receive aren't shown with the trade results, only if you send away 2026 picks... And those '26 picks aren't shown very well overall either, although it at least keeps track of them correctly...

And one more thing: it's not allowing me to copy my results to paste here; maybe the problem's on my end with my Safari...

Another fix I've noticed that's needed regarding 2026 draft picks: We're not given the extra 6th- & 7th-rounders we have when the draft starts; just our regular 1-7s... I suspect that Every team is given just the basic 1-7 when each draft starts; that makes it almost as bad as the way that Mock Draft Database handles 2026 picks!

I'll continue to use it, if only to see if those 2026 glitches have been remedied...
