BB's new book has no mention of Bob Kraft - admits shocking mistake

Kraft has only hired 1 HOF coach, Belichick. Orthwein hired Parcells, and Pete Carroll has won 1 Super Bowl, he’s not a HOF coach.
John Madden, **** Vermeil, Bill Cowher, and Tony Dungy each won only 1 Super Bowl, and Marv Levy didn’t win any. Winning multiple Super Bowls isn’t the minimum requirement of getting in. I think Pete Carroll absolutely deserves HOF consideration, though that’s strictly off the strength of his Seattle run, not from anything he did while with us in New England.

You had him as a HOF coach, I disagree, but I never said he shouldn’t even be considered.

Carroll is going to the HOF.

Coaches don't have to wait 5 years anymore for induction, which I like. Does BB have to officially retire from the NFL to be in the next HOF class or can he just stay at UNC?

I think so too.

Bill Cowher is a good comparable I think and Cowher is in the HOF.. though the Steelers factor always plays into it.

I don't think they should worry about it if they induct him and somehow he ends up back on a NFL sideline it would actually be kind of a cool thing and he'd be worthy of that kind of treatment.

First Ballot.
I do think he gets in eventually but unless he has a crazy year with the Raiders (at least making the superbowl) i dont think he is a first ballot. You have to be a BB or Andy Reid for that and Pete is good, deserving of the hall, but only in a weak year and i doubt it will be first ballot.

All of this works both ways.

"Bill's actions without Tom Brady tell the whole story". You can't use this logic with Kraft and then ignore it with Belichick (especially when Kraft can say he had a team go to a SB without Belichick being the HC and without Brady even being in the league). At that point only Brady comes out looking clean.

"Name another owner who hired 3 Hall of Fame Coaches". That's a pretty impressive evaluation of talent no matter how you slice it. Also he had Belichick for 24 seasons. Landry and Shula are the only other coaches who had a longer tenure with a single franchise.

You can't just cherry pick one person's contributions to prop up others and then ignore similar issues with those other people.
If by hiring 3 HOF coaches, you mean Parcells, Carroll and Belichick - Kraft did not hire Parcells. That was James Busch Orthwein.

Depends who he shares the ballot with.

Agreed, although i think voters do factor in the honor to be a first ballot and reserve it for a certain level of HOFer. You have to be face of the NFL for a number of years and PC is not that level coach.

I do not think he should get in.
One SB does not do it. He did not really have a very sustained period of excellence either.
If he wins one with the Raiders he can get in.
He would get into the gum chewers HOF as a first ballot inductee

The thing is, they sure as hell acted like the plan was Stidham and/or Hoyer. They had the opportunity to sign other QBs, but they chose to use most of their cap space to retain McCourty and franchise tag Thuney.

They had the opportunity to draft Jordan Love, who was there at 23, but traded down instead. They didn't draft any QBs later on, either, and didn't sign an UDFA QB or another veteran. Hell, they were only able to sign Cam Newton because he was willing to play for essentially nothing.

All true. And/but this basically all went down between Feb and April of 2020 when it wasn't clear if there was going to be a 2020 NFL season. Brady quit on March 17, the day before COVID lockdowns started. Not sure how this works in but it probably seemed like a bad idea to make multi-decade decisions right then.

If Dungy got in with 1, Cowher got in with 1-1. Vermeil got in with 1, Grant can get in going 0-3 and Levy can get in going 0-4.... then Carroll going 1-1 being a about a play from winning 2, then yeah he's getting in. The LOB/Wilson era Seahawks were notable enough that the coach will get in.

He also coached 18 years and made the playoffs in 12 of them. He also only has 3 seasons with losing records. Plus 11 playoff wins.

Based on what the bar is, Carroll will get in. You can argue that the bar should be higher, but he's pretty easily cleared what he needed to for the HOF as it is today.

Both Bob and Bill said they offered Tom a contract for 2020. He decided to leave.

It’s the “free” part of free agency you’re struggling with.
That's BS. It is well documented they never approached him at any point during free agency. Once he told them he was leaving, Kraft offered him a contract so he could say he did.

I think that was Bob doing damage control as he always does to deflect blame. He said he would've matched the Bucs offer which makes absolutely no sense because Tom forced Bob to remove the franchise tag since they wouldn't give him that additional year.

To be fair, he did seem to do real succession planning with Jimmy G. Then he got his legs cut out from under him by Brady playing longer than seemed conceivable and it not working out to keep both. Feels like he just said **** it and gave up after that though.
Good points. Here's how I see it also.. if the relationship was so bad between bill, RK and Brady. Then these 3 NFL greats would have never stayed together for as long as they did. RKs franchise rose to a multi billion dollar entity, Bill had full power and the highest paid coach in the NFL deservedly so. Brady obviously took less for the greater Good of the team.. I appreciate all 3 of them together it takes ownership, coach and QB to sustain greatness.

How do you think BB will feel if Vrabes does it? Jealous? Happy? Indifferent? "Grumble grumble, I could do it with that team and Mac....I shoulda been HC!" It will be interesting once it happens (hopefully very soon).
PBP,

Here's a look inside the patriots team airplane.. looks pretty modern and comfortable to me..

Maybe goddy couldn't get the stewardess to massage his feet..
