Stefon Diggs to wear #8 for Patriots

That first drill...those were real ****ing cuts.
That move was sick for a guy coming off that kind of injury. They should show that to Javon Baker and tell him that's how you make people in wheel chairs stand up. Even a 80% Diggs is going help this Offense hope the younger WR's take advantage of the lesser coverage. I think some Teams are kicking themselves for passing on him...glad we signed him.

We are similar but you hold Boutte in much higher regard than I do
You gotta be kidding me UGA: even Amateur OC AVP thought Boutte was better than the rest. I thought he played well last year given the circumstances. Anymore improvements and he's a keeper: regarding the overrated Bourne he needs to show he still have more left in the tank. We'll see if McDaniels can rekindle Bourne and Mack Hollins flames both Players had their Best years as Pros Statistically with McDaniels. That said hoping one of the Baker/Polk or both make Bourne and Hollins Expendable.

I loved the Boutte pick in 2023 as a post-hype sleeper. Exactly the kind of flyer a team should be taking late in the draft. He did barely anything as a rookie but looked much better another year removed from the ankle injury that slowed him down at LSU.

That being said, he still didn’t do enough that I would classify him as a lock. He flashed at times but wasn’t consistent. This was still the worst WR room in the NFL last year, and no one was saying “well good thing they have Boutte because yikes at the rest of that group”. No he was lumped in with them and rightfully so. It’s a little challenging to judge the performance given how much of a trainwreck the entire Patriots operation was last year, top to bottom. But his numbers weren’t that impressive. They were an encouraging improvement for a guy who many (myself included) were doubting would even make the team before the 2024 preseason, but still nothing remarkable for a starter.

15 games, 43 rec, 589 yards, 3 TD

Boutte did practically nothing on the two games he didn’t start in (2 catches for 13 yards and no TD on 3 targets) so we’ll toss those out. On the other end of the spectrum, let’s toss out his Week 18 performance against Buffalo (7-117-1 on 7 targets) because as nice as that looks on paper, that stat line was misleading because the Bills third stringers on defense were inviting the Pats to score on them all game. Buffalo’s seeding was secure and they had nothing to gain from winning and everything to gain from losing and preventing their division rival from picking 1st overall. His 5-95-1 in Buffalo two weeks prior was much more impressive, and we’re counting that one.

So subtracting those two games of Boutte as a bit player and that one glorified preseason game at the end, you’re left with 12 starts and a 34-459-2 line on 58 targets. If you average that out to a full 17 games, you get 48-650-3. That would’ve put him 48th among all NFL WRs last season in total yards. Interestingly enough that was still better than what he finished with (589 yards, 56th among WRs). That puts him in company with other decent but ultimately complementary WRs across the league. Doesn’t move the needle.

Boutte should be considered one of the favorites to make the team but he is by no means a lock, especially if he doesn’t impress this offseason. Vrabel might favor a more veteran presence at the top of the depth chart (Diggs, Bourne, Hollins) and then that leaves 3 spots between the youngsters Boutte, Douglas, Polk, Baker, and whatever rookie(s) they add. Going to be interesting to see where they all fit in McDaniels’ new look offense.

I don't think you're giving Boutte enough credit he had to endure Brissett. A guy who barely threw for over 120yds can't tell you how much I despised that signing. Boutte came alive when Maye finally got the start Texans game 50 yard Bomb. After that play Boutte was being shaded by opposing Safeties. He also was our best Blocker from the WR position *Josh loves WR's who do that* also he lead all Receivers in snaps. We can throw out that garbage game yes: but I think his ceiling is higher than Bourne and Hollins. I think McDaniels will unlock him.

I think Pop is still WR2
He's a WR3 until he hit that 000yds plateau. We wasted a year with him: it's said Amateur OC AVP didn't know how to use the Slot well. Josh won't have that problem I can see Pop Douglas lighting it up this season.

Pop played better with Maye than Jacoby too. And had a way better rookie year than Boutte. I think he's still the better WR of the 2. And unless we get someone better Pop is WR2 while Boutte is still fighting with a few others for WR3.

Boutte ain't fighting with those other scrubs on the roster: he's well ahead of them. IF we get one of the Jack Bech - Jaylin Noel - Kyle Williams or Tre Harris: say goodbye Bourne and Hollins. Those Four Rookies should be Day 1 contributors.

I would say Boutte is the lead candidate but still fighting with Hollins and Bourne for WR3.

I actually stood up from my chair watching that first drill, and rewound it to make sure I saw what I thought I was seeing.

That move would turn Sauce and Gonzo around and not many WR's can get the better of them. That move was just nasty: Diggs should be ready to go Game one with good health of course.

That first move made my knees cringe.

Yeah it's a little rainy today my knee hurts just from the rain. By God these guys are freaks.
You're preaching to the choir regarding a sore knee.

It still irks me seeing RB’s and TE’s in single digits, just looks out of place to me. I miss the conventional format. Now WR’s wearing 80’s are more scarce. One of the biggest offenders is the Saints have a WR who wears #22. I keep thinking it’s a RB or CB playing out of position.
Case in point: Anfernee Jennings wearing #33. He’s a 255 lbs. linebacker but looks like a safety wearing that number.

Back in the day, veterans who saw players wearing wacky numbers in single digit, teens or a player other than LB wearing numbers in the 50's were market as getting cut.

The weird number format makes it look like it's positionless players on the field.
This is why I don't have my players wearing any numbers ..at UNC.

#8 for Diggs is very tight.

Remind me again what time of year it is.?

Voluntary workouts, pre-draft …..

We’ve seen enough guys change numbers as late as at last cut-down; he hasn’t even met the other players yet to have those conversations about nr swaps.

Not exactly my biggest concern w this team
I suppose you could have just skipped the thread then
