In a puzzling decision, the NFL has now adopted the All American Football Conference (AAFC), an eight team league that lasted just 4 years, from 1946 to 1949, 76 years after the AAFC played its last game... The AAFC is most notable as the league where the Cleveland Browns & San Francisco 49ers got their starts...

While the NFL allowed the Browns & 49ers to join the NFL, the remaining 6 teams disappeared into the sands of time... The NFL, however, did not adopt the record & fact book of the rival league when it admitted the browns, 9ers and colts (not the same colts team we know and hate, this one folded after 1 season)... This was not the case for the AFL... The NFL did adopt the record and fact book of the AFL when they merged, which is why the Pats stats from the AFL days are official NFL stats...

With the adoption of the AAFC records,, Tom Brady now has a pretender to his throne of Championship greatness, Otto Graham... Both stand tall at 7 titles to their name... Otto Graham is a great QB, of that there is no doubt... But it's kinda ****ty of the NFL to dethrone Brady this way...

Big news for Cleveland, but not sure why anyone else would care. The Browns have won 8 league championships, third most of all NFL franchises, but you’re more likely to associate the word “failure” to the Browns than “success”. Nobody in their right mind should be giving what Otto Graham did in the AAFC the same weight as what Tom Brady did in the NFL.

Seems like there has to be more to this story, right?

haven't really dug into it... but probably to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the brown and 49ers entering the nfl would be my guess

Otto Graham was great in a different era. It doesn't diminish his accomplishments.

The '72 Dolphins are no longer the only undefeated team now. Too bad Shula isn't around to hear this.
this would be true also... the 1948 cleveland browns were 14-0-0... unbeaten, untied...

And a more dominating team than the 72 dolphins

Patriots hate is real
Is it possible it's Boston and not the Pats? The NBA never mentions Russell as the greatest even though he was by a country mile, which is the reverse of what the NYFL's doing now. Plus, Russell played in the same league.

Over the years I've always considered Graham one of the all-time greats and now he gets to share the spotlight with TB12. Btw, the reason the NYFL didn't do it while Brady was playing was because they were afraid he'd get another and overtake Graham if he had to.

Some may scoff at their accomplishment in the AAFC, but they were just as good entering the NFL>

On the bright side, the Dolphins* are still the only undefeated team that was fined a first round pick and a record amount of cash for cheating.

That was fun. Thanks.

My first team was the Browns, mostly because of Jim Brown. But the Pats came to be soon after.

Marion Motley was very good before Brown. Jim Brown was deceptive, didn't look fast but really was. Very strong, great balance.

so apparently the reason given for the NFL not accepting the record and fact book back in 1949/50 was that they did not have the stat sheets for the individual games back then... apparently these were found just a few years ago... the NFL & Elias sports bureau reviewed the records... so with the records found to be intact, it was decided to adopt the record & fact book...

Yup this was what I heard as well but was too lazy to go verify the details.

Anyways I don’t think this is a big deal. Brown and Graham DID do what the record books are now attributing to them, most fans aware of Graham knew that, the ones that didn’t already ignore most pre Super Bowl events
